Activate Your Instinct
There are three primary scenarios for activating your new device:
A. You purchased your device at a Sprint Store. Your device
should be activated and ready to use.
B. You received your device in the mail and it is a new Sprint
account or a new phone number. Your device is designed to
activate automatically when you first turn it on. To confirm your
activation, make a phone call.
Charge the Battery
C. You received your device in the mail and you are switching
numbers from a previous Sprint phone to the new device. You
need to contact Sprint to activate the number on your new
Instinct. There are two activation options:
1. Plug the charger into an outlet.
2. Plug the other end of the charger into the device’s Accessories/Power
Cable Jack.

Navigating on Your Instinct
Phone Functions Menu
Touch to access the following:
Touch. Touch and gently press icons on the screen to open menu
items. (The smaller the contact point on the screen, the less pressure
required. Use your fingertip, fingernail, or the stylus rather than the
pad of your finger.)

Speed Dial. Stores up to 99 numbers to make contacting friends and
family as easy as pressing a button.
Contacts. Stores up to 600 Contacts entries.
History. Lists up to 240 phone numbers or Contacts entries for calls you
placed, accepted, or missed.
Scroll. Firmly press and slide your finger up or down the screen to
scroll through lists of menu items. (Scrolling on your Instinct requires
that you press more firmly on the screen than the gentle press
required to open menu items.)
Dialer. To place a call, simply enter a phone number using the onscreen

Voicemail
Set Up Your Voicemail
Make Your First Phone Call
All unanswered calls are automatically transferred to your voicemail,
even if your device is in use or turned off. You should set up your
voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your device is activated.

to enter a phone number.

Retrieve YourVoicemail
AnswerYour First Call
Visual Voicemail automatically retrieves a list of your current voicemail
messages and presents them in a list on your device. You can select a
specific entry from the list. The voicemail system will play back only the
selected message.

If your screen is active, touch

Speech to Action
Your device offers you the option of assigning shortcuts for quick and easy
access to your favorite or often-used functions.
With Speech to Action it’s simple to make calls, send text messages and
pictures with the touch of a button and your voice. You can access Web-based
information such as news, weather, and sports and location-specific
information for traffic, movies and search.
Add an application as a Favorite Function:

Music
GPS Navigation
Sprint Navigation lets you see and
hear turn-by-turn directions to a
known address or find nearby
restaurants, stores, banks or gas
stations. Get information about traffic
and alternate routes.
Preview, purchase, download and listen to songs
right on your Instinct. You can also transfer music
from your computer and music you previously
purchased from the Sprint Music Store to your
device. See your Explore More Guide for
more information.
