SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR  
SUNBEAM AVALANCHE ICE SHAVER.  
• The ice shaving blade should be removed  
before disassembling this appliance for  
added safety.  
• This appliance is not a toy.  
• Use caution when washing and drying  
the appliance as the ice shaving blade is  
extremely sharp.  
• The appliance should be disconnected from  
the mains prior to cleaning.  
• Do not place any part of this appliance in a  
dishwasher.

Listed below are precautions which are essential

over the edge of a table or bench top or touch  
any hot surface.

by grasping the plug - do not pull on the cord.  
• For safety reasons and to avoid maintenance  
by unskilled persons, some appliances are  
‘sealed’ using tamperproof screws. Such  
appliances should always be returned to the  
nearest Sunbeam Appointed Service Centre  
for adjustment or repair if required.  
Turn the power off and remove the plug  
when the appliance is not in use and  
before cleaning.  
• Do not use your appliance with an extension  
cord unless this cord has been checked  
and tested by a qualified technician or  
service person.  
• Do not operate any electrical appliance with a  
damaged cord or after the appliance has been  
dropped or damaged in any manner. If damage  
is suspected, return the appliance to the  
nearest Sunbeam Appointed Service Centre  
for examination, repair or adjustment.  
• Always use your appliance from a power  
outlet of the voltage (A.C. only) marked  
on the appliance.  
• For additional protection, Sunbeam  
recommend the use of a residual current  
device (RCD) with a tripping current not  
exceeding 30mA in the electrical circuit  
supplying power to your appliances.  
• Close supervision is necessary when your  
appliance is being used near children or  
infirm persons.  
• Never leave an appliance unattended while  
in use.  
• Do not immerse the appliance in water  
or any other liquid unless recommended.  
• Young children should be supervised to ensure  
that they do not play with the appliance.

Avalanche will only operate if the lid  
is firmly pressed.

Using your Avalanche  
1. Clean all components prior to first use and  
replace, (see Care and Cleaning).  
5. Lower the safety lid and press down. This  
will activate the Avalanche and shaved ice  
will dispense into the snow catcher,  
see figure 2.  
2. Plug the unit into a 230-240V power  
outlet and turn the power on.  
6. Once all the ice cubes have been shaved,  
refrain from pressing safety lid, to turn the  
Avalanche off.  
3. Ensure the snow catcher is correctly  
positioned in the Avalanche.  
4. Raise the safety lid by lifting the flap,  
see figure 1. The number of ice cubes will  
vary depending on their size. As a guide,  
add 6-8 ice cubes, or fill the chamber.  
Tip: Add your favourite cordial or juice to your  
shaved ice to make a delicious ice treat.

Care and cleaning  
Wash snow catcher in warm soapy water.  
3. Raise the safety lid. With one hand press  
and hold button at the back of the unit  
whilst using the free hand to rotate the  
ice-cube chamber anti-clockwise, see  
figure 4.  
Wipe exterior of the Avalanche with a damp  
soft cloth.  
Disassembling your Avalanche  
Your Avalanche comes apart for thorough  
cleaning.  
1. To remove snow catcher, grip sides and  
slide out.

2. Remove the stainless steel shaving  
blade by simply unscrewing the red nut  
clockwise, see figure 3. When you have  
finished cleaning, be sure to replace the  
shaving blade back into position and screw  
anti-clockwise to secure.

4. Continue to turn the ice cube chamber  
anti-clockwise until you can lift it out,  
see figure 5.  
Warning: Do not immerse the motor housing  
in water or any other liquid.

Assembling your Avalanche

1. Place one hand on the motor base to keep  
the Avalanche stable. With the other hand  
replace the ice cube chamber into the  
unit and continue to turn in a clockwise  
direction until firmly secure.  
2. Lower the lid onto the Avalanche and  
cafefully replace shaving blade, by  
screwing the red screw anti-clockwise  
until secure.  
3. Position the snow catcher onto the  
Avalanche.  
Note: The stainless steel shaving blade should  
not be screwed back in place until the upper  
housing and ice cube chamber are secured.

Recipe ideas for kids  
Fun and easy ice treats  
Milky frozen treats  
Shave ice and pack into cups. Use your  
favourite cordial, juice or soft drink  
concentrates (such as Soda Stream) and pour  
over the top.  
Pour flavoured milk into ice cube trays and  
freeze until well frozen. Once frozen, place  
into Avalanche for instant flavoured creamy  
shaved ice treats.  
Coloured snow cones  
Real fruit treats  
Shave ice and pack tightly into cups. Use  
several of your favourite cordial or soft drink  
concentrates and pour over the top in rows  
for a colourful explosion!  
Place small pieces of fruit such as seedless  
grapes, seeded cherries or blueberries into  
ice cube trays and cover with apple juice.  
Place in freezer until well frozen. Once  
frozen, place into Avalanche for icy treats  
with small shavings of fruit throughout.  
Water ices  
Shave ice into a cup. Add chilled cordial and  
stir. Add chilled water to achieve the desired  
consistency.  
Fruity freezes  
Freeze your favourite freshly squeezed juice  
or bottled juice into ice cube trays and freeze  
until well frozen. Once frozen, place into  
Avalanche for instant flavoured shaved ice  
treats.

Cocktail recipes for adults

Makes 1  
over the age of 18 years.  
30ml tequila  
Blue Lagoon  
Makes 1  
15ml fresh lime juice  
30ml triple sec or Cointreau  
egg white (optional)  
shaved ice  
30ml gin or vodka  
120ml lemonade  
30ml Blue Curacao  
1 cup shaved ice  
Place all ingredients except ice into a  
cocktail shaker and shake well. Place shaved  
ice into a glass with a salt rim and pour over  
the liquid. Garnish with a lime slice.  
Pour ingredients into a tall glass filled with  
shaved ice. Stir and serve with a cherry for a  
garnish.  
Splice  
Makes 1  
Summer Heaven  
1 lime slice  
1 cup shaved ice  
60ml Cointreau  
Makes 1  
30ml Midori  
30ml Malibu  
60ml pineapple juice  
40ml cream  
shaved ice  
Place a lime slice into the bottom of a brandy  
balloon glass and crush with a wooden spoon.  
Spoon in shaved ice and stir to combine with  
the lime. Pour over Cointreau and swirl to  
combine.  
Place all ingredients except ice into a  
cocktail shaker and shake well. Place shaved  
ice into a glass and pour over the liquid.  
Garnish with a pineapple wedge.  
Iceberg  
Makes 1  
Island Fever  
30ml Midori  
15ml triple sec  
15ml blue Curacao  
120ml orange and mango juice  
30ml coconut cream  
Makes 1  
1-1½ cups shaved ice  
30ml Cointreau  
30ml gin  
20ml lime juice  
Sparkling wine  
Blue Curacao  
Fill a large glass with shaved ice. Pour  
ingredients in the order listed over the ice.  
Garnish with a cherry.  
Place shaved ice into a large martini glass  
and press to shape into an iceberg. Pour over  
combined Cointreau, gin and lime juice. Top  
with a little sparkling wine and a drizzle of  
blue Curacao.
