WARNING ANTI-TIP DEVICE
All ranges can tip and injury could result.
To prevent accidental tipping of the range, attach it to the
wall and floor by installing the Anti-Tip device supplied.

To check if the device is installed and engaged properly,
remove the storage drawer and inspect the rear leveling leg.
Make sure it fits securely into the slot.
If you pull the range out from the wall for any reason,
make sure the device is properly engaged when you
push the range back against the wall. If it is not, there is
a possible risk of the range tipping over and causing
injury if you or a child stand, sit or lean on an open
door.

Using the surface units.
How to Set
Push the knob in and turn in either direction to the
setting you want.
At both OFF and HI the control clicks into position.
You may hear slight clicking sounds during cooking,
indicating the control is keeping the power level you set.

Surface Cookware Tips (electric coil models only)
Use medium- or heavy-weight cookware. Aluminum
cookware conducts heat faster than other metals. Cast-
iron and coated cast-iron cookware are slow to absorb
heat, but generally cook evenly at low to medium heat
settings. Steel pans may cook unevenly if not combined
with other metals.

For best cooking results, pans should be flat on the
bottom. Match the size of the saucepan to the size of the
surface unit. The pan should not extend over the edge
of the surface unit more than 1 inch.

Wok Cooking

We recommend that you use only a flat-bottomed wok. They are
available at your local retail store.
Do not use woks that have support rings. Use of these
types of woks, with or without the ring in place, can be
dangerous. Placing the ring over the surface unit will
cause a build-up of heat that will damage the porcelain
cooktop. Do not try to use such woks without the ring.
You could be seriously burned if the wok tipped over.

Temperature Limiter (glass cooktops only)
Every radiant surface unit has a temperature limiter. The
temperature limiter protects the glass cooktop from getting too hot.
The temperature limiter may cycle the units off for a time if:
■ The pan boils dry.
■The pan bottom is not flat.
■The pan is off center.

Using the surface units.
Indicator Lights (glass cooktops only)
A HOT COOKTOP indicator light will glow when any
radiant element is turned on, and will remain on until
the surface is cool enough to touch.

A surface unit ON indicator light will glow when any
surface unit is on.
NOTE: The surface unit ON indicator light may glow between the
surface control settings of LO and OFF, but there is no power to
the surface units.
About the radiant surface units… (glass cooktops only)
SURFACE

The radiant cooktop features heating units beneath a
smooth glass surface.

NOTE: A slight odor is normal when a new cooktop is used for the
first time. It is caused by the heating of new parts and insulating
materials and will disappear in a short time.
Never cook directly on the glass.
Always use cookware.
The surface unit will cycle on and off to maintain
your selected control setting.
It is safe to place hot cookware from the oven or
surface on the glass surface when the surface is cool.
Even after the surface units are turned off, the glass
cooktop retains enough heat to continue cooking.
To avoid over-cooking, remove pans from the surface
units when the food is cooked. Avoid placing
anything on the surface unit until it has cooled
completely.

■ Water stains (mineral deposits) are removable using the cleaning
cream or full strength white vinegar.
Always place the pan in the center of
the surface unit you are cooking on.
■ Use of window cleaner may leave an iridescent film on the
cooktop. The cleaning cream will remove this discoloration.
■ Don’t store heavy items above the cooktop. If they drop onto the
cooktop, they can cause damage.
■ Do not use the surface as a cutting board.

Dual Surface Unit Switch (glass cooktops only)
The right front surface unit has 2 cooking sizes to select from
so you can match the size of the unit to the size of the cookware
you are using.

The following information will help you choose cookware which
will give good performance.

Oven Control Settings
+ and – Pads
OepagIructions
These pads allow you to set times up to 9 hours and 59
minutes. Short taps to these pads change the time or
temperature by small amounts. Press and hold the pad to
change the time or temperature by larger amounts.
CLEAR/OFF Pad
Press this pad to cancel ALL oven operations except the clock
and timer.
SELF CLEAN Pad

Press this pad to select the self-cleaning function. See the
Using the self-cleaning oven section.
NOTE: Do not lock the oven door with the latch during cooking. The latch is used
for self-cleaning only.
BAKE Pad
Press this pad to select the bake function.
BROIL HI/LO Pad
Press this pad to select the broil function.
Display

Shows the time of day, oven temperature, whether the oven is
in the bake, broil or self-cleaning mode and the times set for
the timer on automatic oven operations.

If “F–and a number” flash in the display and the oven control signals,
this indicates a function error code. If the function error code appears
during the self-cleaning function check the oven door latch—the latch handle
may have been moved, even if only slightly, from the latched position.
Make sure the handle is to the right as far as it will go. Press the

CLEAR/OFF pad. Allow the oven to cool for one hour. If the function error
code repeats, disconnect the power to the range and call for service.

Special features of your oven control.
Your new touch pad control has additional features that you may choose to
use. The following are the features and how you may activate them.
SeyIfrmation
The special feature modes can only be activated while the display is
showing the time of day clock. They remain in the control’s memory until
the steps are repeated.
When the display shows your choice press the START pad. The special
features will remain in memory after a power failure.
12 Hour Shut-Off
With this feature, should you forget and leave the oven on, the
control will automatically turn off the oven after 12 hours during
baking functions or after 3 hours during a broil function.

If you wish to turn off this feature, follow the
steps below.
Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

Press the START TIME pad. The display will show
“12 shdn” (12 hour shut-off). Press the START TIME
pad again and the display will show “no shdn” (no
shut-off).

leave the control set in this special features mode.

Fahrenheit or Centigrade Temperature Selection
Your oven control is set to use the Fahrenheit temperature
selections but you may change this to use the Centigrade selections.
Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

“F” (Fahrenheit).

Control Lockout
Your control will allow you to lock down the touch pads so they
cannot be activated when pressed.
Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

Press the SELF CLEAN pad. The display will show
“LOC OFF.”

Press the SELF CLEAN pad again. The display will
show “LOC ON.”
Press the START pad to activate the control lockout
feature and leave the control set in this special
features mode.

When this feature is on and the touch pads are pressed
the control will beep and the display will show “LOC.”
NOTE: The control lockout mode will not affect the
clock and timer pads.
Tones at the End of a Timed Cycle
At the end of a timed cycle, 3 short beeps will sound followed by
one beep every 6 seconds, until the CLEAR/OFF pad is pressed.
This continuous 6 second beep may be canceled.

To cancel the 6 second beep:
Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

Press the KITCHEN TIMER ON/OFF pad. The display
shows “CON BEEP” (continuous beep). Press the
KITCHEN TIMER ON/OFF pad again. The display
shows “BEEP.” (This cancels the one beep every 6
seconds.)

Special features of your oven control.
12 Hour, 24 Hour or Clock Black-Out
Your control is set to use a 12 hour clock.

If you would prefer to have a 24 hour military time clock
or black-out the clock display, follow the steps below.
Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

Press the CLOCK pad once. The display will
show “12 hr.”

Press the CLOCK pad again to change to the 24 hour
military time clock. The display will show “24 hr.”
Press the CLOCK pad again to black-out the clock

Preheating and Pan Placement
Preheat the oven if the recipe calls for it. To preheat, set the oven
at the correct temperature. Preheating is necessary for good results
when baking cakes, cookies, pastry and breads.

Baking results will be better if baking pans are centered in the oven
as much as possible. Pans should not touch each other or the walls
of the oven. If you need to use two shelves, stagger the pans so one

is not directly above the other, and leave approximately 1 ⁄2″ from
the front of the pan to the front of the shelf.
Aluminum Foil
Never entirely cover a shelf with aluminum foil. This will
disturb the heat circulation and result in poor baking.

A smaller sheet of foil may be used to catch a spillover by
placing it on a lower shelf several inches below the food.

You can also use aluminum foil to line the broiler pan

Adjust the oven thermostat—Do it yourself!
You may find that your new oven cooks differently than the one it replaced.
Use your new oven for a few weeks to become more familiar with it. If you
still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostat
yourself.

Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of
your oven. These thermometers may vary 20–40 degrees.
NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling or the self-cleaning temperatures.
The adjustment will be retained in memory after a power failure.

Press the BAKE and BROIL HI/LO pads at the same
time for 2 seconds until the display shows “SF.”

Most recipes for baking have been developed using high fat products such
as butter or margarine (80% fat). If you decrease the fat, the recipe may not
give the same results as with a higher fat product.
Recipe failure can result if cakes, pies, pastries, cookies or candies are made with low fat spreads. The
lower the fat content of a spread product, the more noticeable these differences become.
Federal standards require products labeled “margarine” to contain at least 80% fat by
weight. Low fat spreads, on the other hand, contain less fat and more water. The high
moisture content of these spreads affect the texture and flavor of baked goods. For
best results with your old favorite recipes, use margarine, butter or stick spreads
containing at least 70% vegetable oil.

Before a Clean Cycle
The range must be completely cool in order to set the
self-clean cycle.
We recommend venting with an open window or using a
ventilation fan or hood during the first self-clean cycle.
Remove all cookware and any aluminum foil from
the oven.
Wipe up heavy soil on the oven
bottom.
The oven shelves can be self-cleaned, but they will

darken, lose their luster and become hard to slide.
Do not use abrasives or oven cleaners. Clean the top,
sides and outside of the oven door with soap and water.
The enamel grid and broiler pan may be cleaned in the
self-cleaning oven. However, to help prevent heavy
smoke caused by self-cleaning the greasy soil in the pan,
you must first clean off the excess grease.
Make sure the oven light bulb cover is in place and the
oven light is off.

IMPORTANT: The health of some birds is extremely
sensitive to the fumes given off during the self-cleaning

It will not be possible to open the oven door until the

The oven door is removable for cleaning.

and off the hinges.

To replace the door, make sure the hinges are in the
special stop position. Position the slots in the bottom of
the door squarely over the hinges and slowly lower it
over both hinges.

To clean the inside of the door:
■ Because the area inside the gasket is cleaned
during the self-clean cycle, you do not need to
clean this by hand.
■ The area outside the gasket and the front frame can
be cleaned with a soap-filled scouring pad, hot water
and detergent. Rinse well with a vinegar and water
solution.
The gasket is designed with a gap at
the bottom to allow for proper air
circulation.
Do not rub or clean the door gasket—it has an extremely low
resistance to abrasion.

The porcelain enamel finish is sturdy but breakable if misused.

This finish is acid-resistant. However, any acidic foods spilled
(such as fruit juices, tomato or vinegar) should not be permitted
to remain on the finish.
If acids spill on the cooktop while it is hot, use a dry paper towel or
cloth to wipe it up right away. When the surface has cooled, wash
with soap and water. Rinse well.
For other spills such as fat spatterings, wash with soap and water or
cleansing powders after the surface has cooled. Rinse well. Polish
with a dry cloth.

Lift-Up Cooktop (electric coil models only)
Some models have a cooktop that can be lifted up
for easier cleaning. The entire cooktop may be lifted up
and supported in the up position.

To replace a surface unit:
Replace the drip pan into the recess in the cooktop. Make
sure the opening in the pan lines up with the receptacle.
Insert the terminals of the surface unit through the
opening in the drip pan and into the receptacle.
Guide the surface unit into place so it rests evenly.

Do not immerse the surface units in liquids of any kind.
Do not clean the surface units in a dishwasher.

For best results, clean the drip pans by hand. Place them in a

loosen the soil. Then scrub with a soap-filled scouring pad if
necessary. Rinse with clean water and polish with a clean soft cloth.

Clean the area under the drip pans often. Built-up soil, especially
grease, may catch fire.

Cooktop Surface Light
When changing a cooktop light, do not touch the metal at the ends
of the light.

The cooktop light is easily replaced with a fluorescent
tube of the same wattage. Before changing the light,
pull the plug to the range or disconnect the power at the

To remove:
Lift the light cover by pulling the bottom edge
toward you and then up.

After broiling, remove the broiler pan from the oven.
Remove the grid from the pan. Carefully pour out the
grease from the pan into a proper container.

Clean the glass surface with cleaning cream before you use the cooktop for
the first time. Also, clean the glass surface after each use. This helps
protect the top and makes clean-up easier.
SeyIfrmation
To clean the cooktop seal, let a wet cloth rest on it for a few minutes, then
wipe clean. Use a mild detergent if needed.
Do not use a knife or any sharp object on the seal because it will cut or
damage it.
Daily Cleaning
Use only a recommended cleaning cream, such as Cerama Brite or
the Cooktop Cleaning Creme, on the glass cooktop.

follow these steps.
Before you use the cooktop for the first time, clean it with cleaning
cream. This helps protect the top and makes clean-up easier.

Flooring Under the Range

Your range, like many other household items, is heavy and can settle into soft floor coverings
such as cushioned vinyl or carpeting.
When moving the range on this type of flooring, it should be installed on a
1/4″ thick sheet of plywood (or similar material) as follows:
When the floor covering ends at the front of the range, the area that the range
will rest on should be built up with plywood to the same level or higher than the
floor covering. This will allow the range to be moved for cleaning or servicing.

Effective January 1, 1996 the National Electric Code requires that
new construction (not existing) utilize a 4-conductor connection to an
electric range.
When installing an electric range in new construction follow Steps 3
and 5 for 4-wire connection.
Use only a 3-conductor or a 4-conductor UL-listed range cord. These cords may
be provided with ring terminals on wire and a strain relief device.
A range cord rated at 40 amps with 125/250 minimum volt range is required.
A 50 amp range cord is not recommended but if used, it should be marked for
use with nominal 1 ⁄8″ diameter connection openings. Care should be taken to

center the cable and strain relief within the knockout hole to keep the edge from

An Anti-Tip bracket is supplied with instructions for installation in a variety
of locations. The instructions include a template, a parts list and a list of tools
necessary to complete the installation. Read the Important Safety Information

Leveling the Range

The range must be level. Leveling feet are located at each corner of the base of
the range. Remove the storage drawer or kick panel (depending on your model)
and using channel locks, rotate the leveling feet in and out as required to level
the range. (For instructions on how to remove and replace the storage drawer or
the kick panel, see the Care and cleaning of the range section.)

One of the rear leveling feet will engage the Anti-Tip bracket (allow for some side
to side adjustment). Allow a minimum clearance of 1/8″ between the range and
the leveling foot that is to be installed into the Anti-Tip bracket.
Check the range for proper installation into the Anti-Tip bracket by removing the
kick panel or storage drawer and inspecting the rear leveling leg. Make sure it fits
securely into the slot.

Be sure all range controls are in the OFF position before leaving the range.

From the date of the
original purchase
Any part of the range which fails due to a defect
in materials or workmanship. During this full one-year
warranty, we will also provide, free of charge, all labor
and in-home service to replace the defective part.
Five Years
From the date of the
original purchase
A replacement glass cooktop if it should: crack due
to thermal shock; discolor; crack at the rubber seal
between the glass cooktop and the porcelain edge.
It will also be replaced if the pattern wears off or if
any of the radiant surface units burn out. During this
five-year limited warranty, you will be responsible for any
labor or in-home service costs.
