Therm ostat control
During the Drying m ode operation, the
FAN setting should be switched to LOW
for a gently cooling effect during which
the fan m ay tem porarily stop rotating.
4 °F
If the m ode autom atically selected by the
Setting tem perature
unit is not satisfactory, see page 7 for in-
structions on changing the m ode setting
(COOL, DRY, FAN).
AUTO (* AUTO CHANGEOVER):
HEAT & COOL MODEL (Reverse cycle)
When AUTO CHANGEOVER is selected, the air conditioner selects the appropri-
ate operation m ode (Cooling or Heating) according to your room s present tem -
perature.
When AUTO CHANGEOVER is first selected, the fan will operate at very low speed
for about one m inute while the unit determ ines the current conditions of the
room and accordingly selects the proper operation m ode.
When the air conditioner has adjusted your room s tem perature to near the ther-
m ostat setting, it will begin m onitor operation. In the m onitor operation m ode,
the fan will operate at low speed. If the room tem perature subsequently changes,
the air conditioner will once again select the appropriate operation (Heating, Cool-
ing) to adjust the tem perature to the value set in the therm ostat. (The m onitor
operation range is ±4 °F relative to the therm ostat setting.)
If the m ode autom atically selected by the unit is not satisfactory, see page 7 for
instructions on changing the m ode setting (HEAT, COOL, DRY, FAN).
*Heating:
Use to warm your room .
* During Heating mode:
Set the therm ostat to a tem perature set-
ting that is higher than the current room
tem perature. The Heating m ode will not
operate if the therm ostat is set lower than
the actual room tem perature.
When Heating m ode is selected, the air conditioner will operate at very low fan
speed for about 3 to 5 m inutes, after which it will switch to the selected fan set-
ting. This period of tim e is provided to allow the indoor unit to warm up before
begin full operation.
When the room tem perature is very low, frost m ay form on the outside unit, and
its perform ance m ay be reduced. In order to rem ove such frost, the unit will
autom atically enter the defrost cycle from tim e to tim e. During Autom atic De-
frosting operation, the OPERATION indicator light (red) will flash, and the heat
operation will be interrupted.
During Cooling/Dry mode:
Set the therm ostat to a tem perature set-
ting that is lower than the current room
tem perature. The Cooling and Dry m odes
will not operate if the therm ostat is set
higher than the actual room tem perature
(in Cooling m ode, the fan alone will oper-
ate).
Cooling:
Use to cool your room .
During Fan mode:
The heat and cool functions of this unit
cannot operate in the Fan m ode.
Dry:
Use for gently cooling while dehum idifying your room .
You cannot heat the room during Dry m ode.
During Dry m ode, the unit will operate at low speed; in order to adjust room
hum idity, the indoor units fan m ay stop from tim e to tim e. Also, the fan m ay
operate at very low speed when detecting room hum idity.
The fan speed cannot be changed m anually when Dry m ode has been selected.
Fan:
Use to circulate the air throughout your room .

During Cooling/Dry operation:
The therm ostat tem perature setting decreases by 2 °F as
soon as the ENERGY SAVE button is pressed, and then de-
creases by another 2 °F every thirty m inutes.
The therm ostat tem perature setting increases by 2 °F as soon
as the ENERGY SAVE button is pressed, and then increases
by another 2 °F after one hour has passed.
In this m anner, energy is saved by continuing to heat at a
therm ostat tem perature of 8 °F below the setting.

CLEANING AND CARE
Before cleaning the air conditioner, be sure to turn it off and turn off the electrical breaker.
CAUTION!
Be sure the intake grille is installed securely.
When rem oving and replacing the air filters, be sure not to touch the heat exchanger, as per-
sonal injury m ay result.
Cleaning the Air Filter

Dust can be cleaned from the air filter either with a vacuum
cleaner, or by washing the filter in a solution of m ild de-
tergent and warm water. If you wash the filter, be sure to
allow it to dry thoroughly in a shady place before rein-
stalling.
3. Clean the air filters.
Rem ove the dust from the air filters by vacuum ing or
washing them . After washing, allow the air filters to dry
thoroughly in an area protected from sunlight.
If dirt is allowed to accum ulate on the air filter, air flow
will be reduced, lowering operating efficiency and increas-
ing noise.
During periods of norm al use, the air filters should be
cleaned every two weeks.
When used for extended periods, the unit m ay accum ulate dirt inside, reducing its perform ance. We recom m end that the
unit be inspected regularly, in addition to your own cleaning and care. For m ore inform ation, consult authorized service
personnel.
When cleaning the units body, do not use water hotter than 100 °F, harsh abrasive cleansers, or volatile agents like
benzene or thinner.
Do not expose the unit body to liquid insecticides or hairsprays.
If the unit will not be operated for a period of one m onth or m ore, be sure to allow the inner parts of the unit to dry
thoroughly, in advance, by operating the unit in fan m ode for half a day.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Instructions relating to heating (*) are applicable only to “HEAT & COOL MODEL” (Reverse Cycle).
In the event of a m alfunction (burning sm ell, etc.), im m ediately stop operation, turn off the elec-
WARNING!
trical breaker, and consult authorized service personnel.
Merely turning off the units power switch will not com pletely disconnect the unit from the power
source. Always be sure to turn off the electrical breaker to ensure that power is com pletely off.
Before requesting service, perform the following checks:
Symptom
See Page
Problem
NORMAL
FUNCTION
Doesnt operate im m edi-
ately:
If the unit is stopped and then im m ediately started again, the com -
pressor will not operate for about 3 m inutes, in order to prevent
fuse blowouts.
Whenever the power supply is disconnected and then recon-
nected, the protection circuit will operate for about 3 m inutes,
preventing unit operation during that period.
Noise is heard:
During operation and im m ediately after stopping the unit, the
sound of water flowing in the air conditioners piping m ay be
heard. Also, noise m ay be particularly noticeable for about 2 to 3
m inutes after starting operation (sound of coolant flowing).
During operation, a slight squeaking sound m ay be heard. This is
the result of m inute expansion and contraction of the front cover
due to tem perature changes.
*During Heating operation, a swoosh sound m ay be heard occa-
sionally. This sound is produced by the Autom atic Defrosting op-
eration.
16
Odor:
Occasionally an odor m ay be em itted from the indoor unit. This
m ay be the result of room odors (furniture, tobacco, etc.) which
have been taken into the air conditioner.
Mist or steam are
em itted:
During Cooling or Dry operation, a thin m ist m ay be seen em itted
from the indoor unit. This results from the sudden Cooling of
room air by the air em itted from the air conditioner, resulting in
condensation and m isting.
*During Heating operation, the outdoor units fan m ay stop, and
steam m ay be seen rising from the unit. This is due to Autom atic
Defrosting operation.
16
Airflow is weak or stops:
*When Heating operation is started, fan speed is tem porarily very
low, to allow internal parts to warm up.
*During Heating operation, if the room tem perature rises above
the therm ostat setting, the outdoor unit will stop, and the indoor
unit will operate at very low fan speed. If you wish to warm the
room further, set the therm ostat for a higher setting.
*During Heating operation, the unit will tem porarily stop opera-
tion (between 7 and 15 m inutes) as the Autom atic Defrosting m ode
operates. During Autom atic Defrosting operation, the OPERATION
indicator light will flash.
16
The fan m ay operate at very low speed during Dry operation or
7
7
when the unit is m onitoring the room s tem perature.
In the m onitor AUTO operation, the fan will operate at very low
speed.
Water is produced from
the outdoor unit:
*During Heating operation, water m ay be produced by the out-
16
door unit due to Autom atic Defrosting operation.

OPERATING TIPS
AUTO Restart
In Event of Power Interruption
Should the power supply to the air conditioner be inter-
rupted by a power failure, the air conditioner will restart
autom atically in the previously selected m ode once the
power is restored.
Use of other electrical appliances (electric shaver, etc.) or
nearby use of a wireless radio transm itter m ay cause the
air conditioner to m alfunction. In this event, tem porarily
disconnect the power supply, reconnect it, and then use
the rem ote control unit to resum e operation.
Should a power failure occur during TIMER operation,
the tim er will be reset and the unit will begin (or stop)
operating under the new tim er setting. In this event, the
TIMER indicator light (green) will flash (see page 5).
