1 Introducing the Camera  
Read this section to learn about the features and functions of this  
digital video camcorder. This chapter also covers system  
requirements, package contents, and the camera views.  
1.1 System requirements  
This camera requires a host PC with the following specifications:  
Windows® XP, 2000, ME, 98SE operating system  
Intel® Pentium III 1 GHz CPU or higher  
At least 256 MB of RAM or higher  
Standard USB 1.1 port or higher  
4x speed CD-ROM drive or higher  
At least 200 MB of available disk space  
A USB 1.1 port will enable you to transfer files to and from the host PC, but  
transfer speeds will be much faster with a USB 2.0 port.

Carefully open the LCD monitor on the left side of the camera.  
The directions and lock position of the LCD monitor is shown as

Note: To avoid damaging the LCD monitor, do not rotate the LCD monitor in  
the wrong direction!

2 Getting Started  
Read this section to learn how to start using this digital video  
camcorder. This section covers only the basic functions.  
2.1 Charging  
2.1.1 Replacing battery  
This camera is designed to use a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery.  
2.1.2 Charging  
Use the USB cable in the package to connect the digital video  
camcorder to your PC and the battery charging process will start.

You can also use the AC adapter to charge your camera. Plug the  
AC adapter into the wall outlet and connect the other end to your  
camera to charge.  
2.2 SD card  
An SD card can be inserted into this digital video camcorder to  
provide additional storage space.  
To install an SD Card:  
1. Open the battery door.  
2. Insert an SD card as shown. Make sure the gold contacts  
are facing down as shown.  
3. Close the battery door.

2.3 Turning on/off the Camera  
There are two ways to turn on/off the camera:

3.3 Setup menu  
The setup menu includes a number of settings to configure your  
camera.  
To access the Setup menu:  
1. Turn the camera on.  
2. Press the Menu button and  
press the joystick down to  
enter Setup menu.  
To exit the Setup menu while configuring the camera, press the  
Menu button again to exit the Setup menu.  
3.3.1 Sound effect  
Use this option to turn on or off the sound effect of the unit.  
1. Press the joystick up or down to highlight the Sound  
effect option.  
2. Press the joystick left or right  
to select between On or Off.  
3. Press (in) the center of the  
joystick to confirm, and press  
the Menu button to exit the  
menu.  
3.3.2 USB mode  
Use this option when the camera is connected as a USB device.  
Press the joystick up or down to highlight the USB mode option.

Mass storage  
Press the joystick left or right to select  
the Mass storage.  
Connect the camera to the PC with the  
USB cable. Now the camera will be  
presented as a removable disk.

While in Mass storage mode, you can copy files from your PC to  
the camera, including music files that can be played in music mode.  
For music mode operation, please refer to “8.4 Music” for detailed  
information.

PC Camera  
Note: Before connecting the camera as a PC-Camera, please install the driver  
on the CD-ROM first. Please refer to “9 Installing the Applicationsfor  
detailed information.

used as a PC camera, use in Net-

Use this option to set a period of inactivity after which the camera  
will switch itself off. This function can save the battery consumption.

minute or 3 minutes.

3.3.6 LCD brightness  
Use this option to set the brightness of the LCD.

Use this option to format the data stored  
on the memory card or in the internal

videos) will be erased and cannot be recovered. Make sure you backup all

The setting menu includes both Video and Photo Mode settings.

Use this option to change the exposure for your video. Usually this  
value would be set to 0.0, but you might want to increase the  
exposure to light up a subject with dark  
lighting, or decrease the exposure if you  
are shooting a video in a very bright  
area.  
To adjust the EV adjust:  
1. Press the joystick up or down

+2.0.

Digital filter  
Use this option to convert a video image to different color areas.  
To set the Digital filter:

Sepia, Black/White, Red, Pink, Purple, Blue, Green,  
Yellow, Solarize or Negative.

Stabilization  
Use this option to counteract camera  
shaking and help you to shoot clearer  
videos.  
To set the Stabilization:

Monitor Video  
Use this option to have your camera not to start shooting a video  
until the image within the focusing area is moving.  
To set the Monitor Video:

When you select on, the camera will automatically start to shoot a  
video when the image within the focusing area is moving.

Read this section to configure the settings

To access the Photo mode:

Resolution  
Use this option to determine the resolution  
of the picture that is going to be taken. A larger resolution will  
occupy more memory storage space.

right to select from VGA, 1.3M, 3.0M, 5.0M, 7.0M or  
12.0M.

Image quality  
Use this option to set the image quality  
for the picture you’re going to capture. A  
high quality picture occupies more  
memory space.  
To set the Image quality:  
1. Press the joystick up or down

2. Press the joystick left or right to select from Basic, Better,  
or Best.  
3. Press in the joystick to confirm and press the Menu  
button again to exit the menu.

Continuous shots  
Three pictures will be taken continuously when this function is  
activated. Use this function to take continuous pictures with a short  
delay between each.  
To set Continuous shots mode:

Press the joystick up or  
down to highlight the  
Continuous shot option.

right to select between off  
and on.

Press in the joystick to confirm and press the Menu  
button again to exit the menu.

Couple shot  
Use this option to combine two different images in one photo.  
To use the Couple shot:  
1. Press the joystick up or down to highlight the Couple  
shot option.  
2. Press the joystick left or right to select between off and  
on, and press in the joystick  
to confirm.  
3. Use the LCD screen to frame  
the first image you want to  
shoot, and press the Capture  
button. The first image will

appear on the left side of the LCD screen.  
4. Use the LCD screen to frame the second image you want  
to shot, and press the Capture button. The second image  
will appear on the right of the LCD screen.  
Now you can combine two different images in one photo.

Date stamp  
Use this option to set the date stamp to be shown on the images.  
To set the Date stamp:  
1. Press the joystick up or down to highlight the Date stamp  
option.  
2. Press the joystick left or right  
to select from No stamp,  
Only date, Only time, or  
Date and time.  
3. Press in the joystick to  
confirm and press the Menu  
button again to exit the menu.

Picture frame  
Use this option to add a picture frame to your pictures when they  
are taken. There are 16 picture frames to choose from.  
To set a Picture frame:

EV adjust  
Use this option to change the exposure for your photo. Usually this  
value would be set to 0.0, but you might want to increase the  
exposure to light up a subject with black lighting, or decrease the  
exposure if taking a video in a very bright area.  
To adjust the EV adjust:

down to highlight the EV  
adjust option.

ISO  
ISO (Sensitivity) settings control the camera's sensitivity to light.  
The lower the sensitivity, higher exposure value is needed. When  
you increase the sensitivity, the shutter speed will be faster and  
exposure value will be reduced. There might be noises on the  
images.  
To set the ISO:

Use this option to convert images to different color areas.

This camera provides 3 metering modes (Matrix, Center-weighted  
and Spot) to support you with taking  
photos in different situations.  
To set the Metering mode:

4.2 Using the self-timer function  
Use the self-timer function to set a delay between the moment you  
press the shutter and the moment the picture is captured. A delay of  
3 or 10 seconds can be set. This function can be used in both  
capture and record mode.  
To set the Self-timer:

9 Installing the Applications  
9.1 Drivers  
After installing the camera driver, you can use the camera as a  
“Mass Storage device” on the PC.  
9.1.1 Camera Driver  
This camera offers a Mass Storage function as a card reader device.  
When the driver has been installed and the camera is connected,  
the camera memory and any installed mini SD card will appear as a  
Mass Storage Device in Windows Explorer. Files can be dragged  
and dropped in the same way as on an ordinary disk.  
Before connecting the camera to the PC as a PC camera, follow  
the following instructions to finish the driver installation.  
Please follow the instructions below:  
1. Insert the supplied CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.  
2. Use Windows Explorer to execute the Setup.exe file in  
the root directory.  
3. The installation is configuring  
the window settings.  
Note: Please install the XviD on your system, or else you may not be able to  
play the recorded videos on the PC.

10.1 View photos and videos on the TV  
You can connect the camera to a TV and use the TV screen to  
review your images and play back your video clips. In addition, you  
can also use this camera to record your favorite TV programs.  
Before using the feature, you need to make sure that the output  
mode is correct. Please refer to ” 3.3.8 TV system “ on page 17 to  
set the TV output mode.  
To view photos and videos on the TV, please follow these
