1. Introduction
Thank you very much for purchasing the fi-475PR Imprinter Option.
This guide explains how to use the imprinter.
Use the imprinter correctly according to this guide.
This guide contains important information such as methods to replace consumables. Keep this guide in safety custody.
Uncrating the imprinter packaging box, check that all the components of the imprinter are contained correctly.
Conventions
Important information that requires special attention is indicated as follows:
WARNING
WARNING indicates that serious personal injury may result if you do not follow a procedure correctly.
CAUTION
CAUTION indicates that minor personal injury, loss of data, or damage to the scanner may result if you do not
follow a procedure correctly.
Official Fujitsu part names are indicated with an initial capital letter, as in the part name “Pick Roller”.
NOTICE
A NOTICE provides “how-to” tips or suggestions to help you perform a procedure correctly.
[DAMAGE]
Use a cloth that is either dry or dampened with water when you clean the imprinter.
Use of the F1 or F2 cleaner may damage the imprinter.

3. Installation
(1) Mounting the Imprinter
Mount the imprinter as follows:

Prepare a Phillips screw driver.
Turn off the power switch of the scanner and
disconnect the power cable.
Unfasten the two screws near the eject rollers of the
ADF.

(1) While pushing the lower part of the
imprinter against the scanner, (2) hang the
arms on the ADF unit and push down the
ends of the arms to mount the imprinter on
the scanner.

Secure the imprinter unit with the two screws
removed at procedure 2.

Connect the imprinter cable between the imprinter
(side) and the scanner (back).

When removing the imprinter, reverse the mounting
procedures.

(2) Mounting the Clamps
Two types of clamps are used for securing the imprinter
cable. Mount the clamps as follows:
Clamps (black)
Use these clamps (black) to fix the imprinter cable.
Insert the clamps into the holes on the back of the
imprinter.

Fasten the imprinter cable with the clamps as shown
in the figure.
Clamp (white)
Theclamp(white)holdstheimprintercableloosely. Ifthe
imprinter cable hangs dowh loosely inthe way, use this
clamp. It is not necessary, keep the clamp not so as to lose
it.
Put the clamp (white) at the left part of the upper
shaft of the imprinter.

Hold the imprinter cable with the clamp as shown in
the figure below.

(3) Mounting the Print Cartridge
Mount the print cartridge as follows:
Turn off the power switch of the scanner and
disconnect the power cable.

Hold and raise the knob of the imprinter cover in the
arrow direction to open the cover.

Insert the print cartridge so that its tab is positioned
leftward.
Lower the lever gently until it is locked by the hook
to secure the print cartridge.

(4) Operation Test
After installing the imprinter, check if the printing operation can be done using the Offline Print Test mode of the
scanner.
■ Print test mode
This mode tests printing peformance of the imprinter.
Turning the power on while pressing the [Exit] switch of the scanner's operator panel makes the imprinter enter in
this mode where “Print Test” is available.
Put sheets of printing paper on the ADF paper chute.
In the “Print Test n” screen (screen 1), press [Start] switch.
One sheet of paper is fed and printed.

To print another sheet of paper, press [Start] switch.
With three pages printed, you can check all characters to be
printed. (Printing characters are listed in Chapter 7,
“Specifications”.)
To quit the <<Print Test>>, turn off the power.

About paper put on the ADF paper chute, use the one longer than 297 mm (A4 size). Shorter paper may cause
printing to stop halfway.

(5) Installing the Firmware and Device Drivers
Before installation, confirm the following conditions:
1. The scanner is connected to a computer through the SCSI cable.
2. The scanner is turned on and is set online.
If the above conditions are not satisfied, make sure of the above conditions before installation.
Never turn off the scanner or the computer while updating the firmware or installing the device driver.
Turning-off during installation may damage the scanner.
For installation, refer to the installing instructions in the Drivers Disk.

4. Operation
(1) Replacing the Print Cartridge
Replace the print cartridge as follows:
Turn off the power switch of the scanner and
disconnect the power cable.

Hold and raise the knob of the imprinter cover in the
arrow direction to open the cover.
Unlock the lever which secures the print cartridge
and open the lever upward.

Hold and remove the old print cartridge and then
insertanewprintcartridgesothatitstabispositioned
leftward.
Lower the lever gently until it is locked by the hook
to secure the print cartridge.

(2) Reset of the Ink Remain Counter
You must reset the ink remain counter whenever you replace the print cartridge.
When you install the print cartridge, the ink remain counter will count automatically every character printed and a
message “Please a new Ink” is displayed on the operator panel when the remaining ink is running short. If this message
appears (during read operation), prepare a new ink cartridge. When the imprinter cannot print any more, replace the
print cartridge with the new one and implement the “Ink remain counter reset” in Setup mode.
Imprement the “Ink remain counter reset” operation even if you replace the print cartridge before the alarm.

(3) Clearing Paper Jam
If paper jams, clear the jammed paper as follows:
Open the ADF cover. The imprinter automatically
moves as shown in the figure.

Remove the jammed paper.
If the imprinter unit presses down the paper, hold
the handle part (see the figure below for details) and
slightly lift the imprinter unit from the stacker to
remove the paper.

(4) Cleaning the Nozzle Surface of the Print Cartridge
Ink or stains stuck to the nozzle surface of the print cartridge or leaving the imprinter unused for a while cause poor
printingofcharactersbecauseofstoppedemissionholesofthenozzle.Ifyourimprinterhasthistrouble,cleanthenozzle
surface of the print cartridge.
For cleaning, use dry cloth or waste free from dust, and gently wipe off dirt and stain from the surface of the nozzle.
(Do not use tissue paper.)
Clean the nozzle surface as follows:

Make sure that dirt and stain are all removed and then mount the print cartridge. (Refer to Item (1) in this chapter.)

(5) Cleaning the Imprinter Base
With increase of the imprinter processing, dirt such as ink sticks to the imprinter base, causing dirt on paper. As part
of a daily maintenance, clean the imprinter base through the following procedure:
When cleaning, gently wipe out dust on the imprinter base, especially the dotted area below, with an absorbent
item that can remove the ink.
If the ink hardens, gently wipe with a moistened cloth. (As the ink is water-soluble, it is wiped out with water.)

Lift the imprinter.

As shown in the above figures, press a cloth against the edge and
base of the shutter part and wipe out dirt.
Check that the dirt is wiped out, gently retern the
imprinter to the original position.

(6) Connecting to fi-4750L Scanner
Connecting the interface cable
To use the imprinter with the fi-4750L scanner, connect
thechutercable(attachmentof fi-4750L)andtheimprinter
cable (attchment of the imprinter) as shown right.

Mounttheadjustmentstacker(attachmentoffi-4750L)on
the stacker as shown below.
Holding the notched side of the adjustment stacker,
put the forward two claws at its bottom into the
corresponing holes on the stacker.

Lower the adjustment stacker to put the remaining
two claws at your side into the holes, then push the
adjustment stacker towards the scanner to mount it
on the stacker.

5. Precautions

When installing or replacing the print cartridge, be careful not to insert out of position.
When printing near the edge of paper, note that printing may go across the edge depending on the setting position
of the imprinter.

The " " mark on the imprinter indicates the printing position.
Do not transport the scanner with the imprinter mounted. The imprinter may be damaged.
Be careful not to touch the contacts or the nozzleon the bottom of the print cartridge. Poor printing or loose contact
may occur.

Do not move the imprinter during printing. Printing may be out of order.
Do not shock the imprinter or the print cartridge. Poor printing may occur.
The following shaded area is used for the paper sensor to check the document. Note that the reflection rate of this
area must be more than 50%. (You do not mind general characters printed in this area.) Never punch binding holes
in this area.

6. Error Messages
When thefollowing error messages are displayed on the operator panel, the imprinter malfunctions. Recover the
imprinter according to the means following the cause.
Print Alarm
Possible causes are as follows:
• The imprinter is set out of the paper path.
Set the imprinter in place.
• The stacker is full of documents.
Remove documents from the stacker.
Imprinter Alarm
Possible causes are as follows:
• Loose contact occurs regarding the signal electrodes of the print cartridge.
Reinsert the print cartridge in place.
• The imprinter cannot correctly communicate with the scanner.
Connect the imprinter cable correctly.
• The motor, sensor, or program memory is out of order.
Turn off the power, and then turn on again.
No Ink Cartridge
Possible causes are as follows:
• The print cartridge is not mounted.
Insert the print cartridge.
