Removing packaging materials

Remove tape and glue from your refrigerator before using.

To ensure proper ventilation for your refrigerator, allow for

.5 in. (1.25 cm) space on each side and at the top.

To remove any remaining tape or glue, rub the area briskly

with your thumb. Tape or glue residue can also be easily

removed by rubbing a small amount of liquid dish soap over

the adhesive with your fingers. Wipe with warm water and

dry.

Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable

fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These

products can damage the surface of your refrigerator. For

more information, see the “Refrigerator Safety” section.

Your refrigerator is heavy. When moving the refrigerator

for cleaning or service, be sure to protect the floor.

Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it.

Do not wiggle or “walk” the refrigerator when trying to move

it, as floor damage could occur.

If your refrigerator has an ice maker, make sure you leave

some extra space at the back for the water line connections.

The refrigerator can be flush against the back wall if you do

not have an ice maker installed.

Cleaning before use

After you remove all of the packaging materials, clean the inside

of your refrigerator before using it. See the cleaning instructions

in the “Caring for Your Refrigerator” section.

If you are installing your refrigerator next to a fixed wall, leave

2 in. (5.08 cm) minimum on each side (depending on your

model) to allow for the door to swing open.

Important information to know about glass shelves

and covers:

NOTE: Do not install the refrigerator near an oven, radiator, or

other heat source, nor in a location where the temperature will fall

below 55°F (13°C).

Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when

they are cold. Shelves and covers may break if exposed to

sudden temperature changes or impact, such as bumping.

For your protection, tempered glass is designed to shatter

into many small, pebble-size pieces. This is normal. Glass

shelves and covers are heavy. Use special care when re-

moving them to avoid impact from dropping.

Electrical Requirements

Base Grille

WARNING

Electrical Shock Hazard

Plug into a grounded (earthed) outlet.

Do not remove ground prong.

Do not use an adapter.

To remove the base grille:

1. Open both refrigerator doors.

Do not use an extension cord.

2. Place hands along the ends of the grille, with your thumbs

along the top. Push in with your thumbs and pull up on the

bottom.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in

death, fire, or electrical shock.

NOTE: Be sure to refasten the Tech Sheet behind the base grille

after cleaning.

To replace the base grille:

1. Open the doors.

2. Line up the grille support tabs with the metal clips.

3. Push the grille firmly to snap it into place.

Before you move your refrigerator into its final location, it is

important to make sure you have the proper electrical

connection:

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz. (Plug 1), 220/240 Volt/50 Hz (Plugs 2 or 3), or

220 Volt/60Hz (Plug 3) AC only 10 ampere fused and grounded

(earthed) electrical supply is required.

It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only your

refrigerator be provided. Use an outlet that cannot be turned off

by a switch or pull chain. Do not use an extension cord.

NOTE: Before performing any type of installation, cleaning, or

removing a light bulb, turn the control, (Thermostat, Refrigerator

or Freezer Control depending on the model) to OFF and then

disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical source. When you

are finished, reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical source

and reset the control (Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer Control

depending on the model) to the desired setting.

For Australia and New Zealand:

Your new appliance has been especially manufactured to meet all

Australian Standards and Conditions.

Some notations in the installation instructions may refer to

electrical requirements in other countries, so we draw your

particular attention to these specific notes.

Your appliance needs to be plugged into a 230/240 Volt 50 Hz 10

amp (Plug 4) AC only earthed outlet.

Door Removal

TOOLS NEEDED: ¹⁄₄ in. hex-head socket wrench, ⁵⁄₁₆ in. hex-head socket wrench and a flat-head screwdriver.

IMPORTANT: Before you begin, turn the refrigerator control OFF, unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. Remove food and any

adjustable door or utility bins from doors.

Tools Needed: ¹⁄₄ in. hex-head socket wrench, ⁵⁄₁₆ in. hex-head

Door and Hinge Replacement

1. Replace both bottom hinges, if removed. Tighten screws.

NOTE: It may only be necessary to remove either the door handle

or the doors to get your product through the doorway of your

residence. Measure the door opening to determine whether to

remove the refrigerator handles or the doors.

2. Assistance may be needed to feed the water dispenser

tubing through the bottom hinge while reinstalling the freezer

door. Carefully feed the dispenser tubing through the bottom

left hinge before replacing the door on the hinge.

Handle Removal (optional)

NOTE: Provide additional support for the doors while the top

hinges are being replaced. Do not depend on the door magnets

to hold the doors in place while you are working.

1. Apply firm pressure with your hand on the face of trim. Slide

top trim up and bottom trim down away from handle. Lift trim

pieces off shoulder screws (see Graphic 1).

3. Align and replace the top left hinge as shown (see Graphic 4).

NOTE: Some models include accent pieces between the handle

and the handle trim. If your model includes the accents, you will

need to carefully remove them with a flat-head screwdriver before

removing the handle screws. The accent pieces are optional and

can be reinstalled or left off of the handle assembly.

Tighten screws.

2. Remove handle screws and handles.

3. Move refrigerator into place. Replace handles as shown (see

Graphic 1).

pulling up on the bottom outside corners (see Graphic 2).

4. If you have a dispenser (ice or water), disconnect the water

dispenser tubing located behind the base grille. Remove

hose from clip (see Graphic 3).

Your refrigerator has two front adjustable rollers — one on the

right and one on the left. If your refrigerator seems unsteady or if

you want the doors to close more easily, adjust the refrigerator's

tilt using the instructions below:

Disconnect union nut.

Remove union nut and spring.

1. Move the refrigerator into its final position.

5. Remove top left hinge cover and screws as shown (see

Graphic 4). DO NOT REMOVE SCREW 1.

2. The two leveling screws are part of the front roller assemblies

which are at the base of the refrigerator on either side (see

Graphic 8).

6. Disconnect wiring plug and both ground wires (see

Graphic 4).

3. Use a screwdriver to adjust the leveling screws. Turn the

leveling screw to the right to raise that side of the refrigerator

or turn the leveling screw to the left to lower that side. It may

take several turns of the leveling screws to adjust the tilt of

the refrigerator (see Graphic 8).

7. Carefully lift freezer door straight up off bottom hinge (see

Graphic 5). The water dispenser tubing remains attached to

the freezer door and pulls through the bottom left hinge.

Make sure you protect the dispenser tubing from damage.

NOTE: Having someone push against the top of the

refrigerator takes some weight off the leveling screws and

rollers. This makes it easier to adjust the screws.

8. Remove top right hinge cover and screws as shown (see

Graphic 6). DO NOT REMOVE SCREW 1.

9. Lift the refrigerator door straight up off bottom hinge.

4. Open both doors again and check to make sure that they

close as easily as you like. If not, tilt the refrigerator slightly

more to the rear by turning both leveling screws to the right. It

may take several more turns, and you should turn both

leveling screws the same amount.

10. It may not be necessary to remove the bottom hinge to move

the refrigerator through a doorway. Both bottom hinges have

similar construction.

■

Disassemble the hinges as shown (see Graphic 7). DO

NOT REMOVE SCREW 1.

5. Replace the base grille.

NOTE: Be sure to refasten the Tech Sheet behind the base grille.

2. Install the interior water filter cartridge. The interior water filter

mounting bracket is located in the upper corner of the fresh

food compartment of the refrigerator.

Connecting the Refrigerator

to a Water Source

NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically

unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate

disinfection before or after the system.

Read all directions carefully before you begin.

IMPORTANT:

■

Carefully remove the interior water filter cartridge from its

packaging. Remove the red cap from the cartridge.

■

All installations must be in accordance with local plumbing

code requirements.

Apply the appropriate month sticker to the cartridge as a

reminder to replace the cartridge within six months. Then

apply the “Water Filter Replacement Reminder” sticker to

your calendar.

Contact your dealer or Whirlpool designated service

company for proper installation and parts.

■

Connect to potable water only.

Water pressure: 30 to 150 psi (207 KPa - max. 1030 KPa).

Install ice maker tubing in areas where temperatures are

above freezing.

■

If operating the refrigerator before installing the water

connection, turn ice maker to the OFF position to prevent

operation without water (See “Water System Preparation”).

■

Line up the INSTALL mark on the water filter label with the

indicator line that is molded into the filter mounting bracket

cover. Push the cartridge into the filter mounting bracket.

Twist the cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the right to lock it into place. The

REMOVE mark should be lined-up with the indicator line

located on the front cover.

It may take up to 24 hours for your ice maker to begin

producing ice.

Water System Preparation

3. Flush the water system by dispensing and discarding

2 to 3 gallons (8 to12 liters) or approximately 6 to 7 minutes of

water through the dispenser. This will clean the system and

help clear air from the lines. Additional flushing may be

required in some households.

Please read before using the water system.

Immediately after installation, follow the steps below to make

sure that the water system is properly cleaned.

1. Open the freezer door and turn off the ice maker. For Style 1

lift up the wire shut-off arm as shown. For Style 2 move the

switch to the OFF (right) setting as shown.

NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out

of the dispenser.

4. Inspect the filter system for water leaks. If you see water

leaks, see the “Troubleshooting” section.

5. Open the freezer door and turn on the ice maker. For Style 1

lower the wire shut-off arm. For Style 2 move the switch to

the ON (left) position. Please refer to the “Ice Maker and

Storage Bin/Bucket” section for further instructions on the

operation of your ice maker.

Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.

Discard the first three batches of ice produced.

Depending on your model, you may want to select the

maximum ice feature to increase the production of ice. To

do so, set the switch on the front of the ice maker to MAX.

Style 2

Understanding Sounds You May Hear

Your new refrigerator may make sounds that your old one didn’t

make. Because the sounds are new to you, you might be

concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hard

surfaces, like the floor, walls, and cabinets, can make the sounds

seem louder than they actually are. The following describes the

kinds of sounds and what may be making them.

NOTE: If your model has a base grille filter system, make sure the

base grille filter is properly installed and the cap is in the

horizontal position. If your model has an interior water filter

system, move to step 2.

■

If your product is equipped with an ice maker, you will hear a

buzzing sound when the water valve opens to fill the ice

maker for each cycle.

■

The defrost timer will click when the automatic defrost cycle

begins and ends. Also, the Thermostat Control (or

Refrigerator Control depending on the model) will click when

cycling on and off.

Rattling noises may come from the flow of refrigerant, the

water line, or items stored on top of the refrigerator.

Setting the Controls

Your refrigerator is designed to run more efficiently to keep

your food items at the desired temperature. The high

efficiency compressor may cause your new refrigerator to run

longer than your old one, and you may hear a pulsating or

high-pitched sound.

For your convenience, your refrigerator controls are preset at

the factory. When you first install your refrigerator, make sure

that the controls are still preset. The Refrigerator Control and the

Freezer Control should both be at the “mid-settings” as shown in

the illustrations below.

■

Water dripping on the defrost heater during a defrost cycle

may cause a sizzling sound.

Setting the dial controls (on some models):

The Refrigerator Control adjusts the refrigerator

compartment temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-

setting make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of

the mid-setting make the temperature colder.

You may hear the evaporator fan motor circulating the air

through the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurgling sound due to

the refrigerant flowing in your refrigerator.

Contraction and expansion of the inside walls may cause a

popping noise.

You may hear air being forced over the condenser by the

condenser fan.

You may hear water running into the drain pan during the

defrost cycle.

Ensuring Proper Air Circulation

In order to ensure proper temperatures, you need to permit air to

flow between the two sections. Cold air enters the bottom of the

freezer section and moves up. It then enters the refrigerator

section through the top vent. Air then returns to the freezer as

shown.

NOTE: Your product will not cool when the Refrigerator Control is

set to “0” (OFF).

The Freezer Control adjusts the freezer compartment

temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-setting make the

temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-setting

make the temperature colder.

Style 1

Do not block any of these vents with food such as soda, cereal,

bread, etc. If the vents are blocked, airflow will be prevented and

the temperature controls will not function properly.

IMPORTANT: Because air circulates between both sections, any

odors formed in one section will transfer to the other. You must

thoroughly clean both sections to eliminate odors. To prevent

odor transfer from food, wrap or cover foods tightly.

Style 2

Adjusting Control Settings

Give the refrigerator time to cool down completely before adding

food. It is best to wait 24 hours before you put food into the

refrigerator. The settings indicated in the previous section should

be correct for normal household refrigerator usage. The controls

are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and

when ice cream is firm.

If you need to adjust temperatures in the refrigerator or freezer,

use the settings listed in the chart below as a guide. Wait at least

24 hours between adjustments.

Give your refrigerator time to cool down completely before

adding food. It is best to wait 24 hours before you put food into

the refrigerator.

Water and Ice Dispensers

(on some models)

Depending on your model, you may have one or more of the

following options: the ability to select either crushed or cubed

ice, a special light that turns on when you use the dispenser, or a

lock option to avoid accidental dispensing.

The ice dispenser

Ice dispenses from the ice maker storage bin in the freezer. When

the dispenser lever is pressed:

■

A trap door opens in a chute between the dispenser and the

ice bin.

■

Ice moves from the bin and falls through the chute.

When you release the dispenser lever, the trap door closes

and the ice dispensing stops. The dispensing system will not

operate when the freezer door is open.

Some models dispense both cubed and crushed ice. Before

dispensing ice, select which type of ice you prefer. The button

controls are designed for easy use and cleaning.

■

For cubed ice, press the CUBE button until the red indicator

appears in the window above the CUBE button.

■

For crushed ice, press the CRUSH button until the red

indicator appears in the window above the CRUSH button.

For crushed ice, cubes are crushed before being dispensed. This

may cause a slight delay when dispensing crushed ice. Noise

from the ice crusher is normal, and pieces of ice may vary in size.

When changing from CRUSH to CUBE, a few ounces of crushed

The dispenser lock (on some models)

Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent

accidental dispensing by small children and pets. To turn off the

dispenser, press the LOCK button. The indicator will appear

above the LOCK button and the ice and water dispensers will not

work. To unlock the dispenser, press the UNLOCK button until

the indicator appears. Then continue to dispense ice or water as

usual.

NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out

of the dispenser.

6. Inspect the filter system for water leaks. If you see water

leaks, see the “Troubleshooting” section.

Base Grille Water Filtration and Monitoring

System

NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product,

to the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates

the dispenser levers.

The base grille water filter status light

The water filter status light will help you know when to change

your water filter cartridge. The light is located at the top of the

refrigerator compartment. The light will change from green to

yellow. This tells you that it is almost time to change the water

filter cartridge (90% of the filter life has been used). It is

recommended that you replace the base grille water filter

cartridge when the water filter indicator light changes to red OR

water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases

noticeably. (See “Changing a base grille water filter cartridge”

later in this section.)

Interior Water Filtration System

(on some models)

The interior water filter cartridge is located in the upper corner of

the fresh food compartment of the refrigerator. The interior water

filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if

the flow of water to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases

noticeably.

NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe

or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before

or after the system.

Replacing the interior water filter cartridge

1. Twist the interior water filter cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the left. The

INSTALL mark will be lined up with the indicator line located

on the filter mounting bracket cover.

2. Gently pull down on the cartridge to remove it from the filter

mounting bracket assembly. To prevent water from spilling

inside the refrigerator, DO NOT TIP the cartridge. Dispose of

the cartridge.

After changing the water filter cartridge, reset the water filter

status light by pressing the light switch 5 times within 10

seconds. The status light will change from red to green when the

system is reset.

3. Install the new interior water filter cartridge. You can run the

dispenser without a water filter cartridge, but your water will

not be filtered.

NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically

unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate

disinfection before or after the system.

Non-indicator water filter (on some models)

If your refrigerator does not have the water filter status light, you

should change the water filter cartridge every 6-9 months

depending upon your usage. If the water flow to the water

dispenser or icemaker decreases noticeably before 6 months

have passed, replace the water filter cartridge more often. (See

“Changing a base water filter cartridge” later in this section.)

■

Carefully remove the interior water filter cartridge from its

packaging. Remove the red cap from the cartridge.

Apply the appropriate month sticker to the cartridge as a

reminder to replace the cartridge within six months. Then

apply the “Water Filter Replacement Reminder” sticker to

your calendar as a reminder to replace the cartridge in six

months.

Changing a base grille water filter cartridge

The base grille water filter is located below the freezer

compartment door.

1. Locate the water filter cartridge cap in the front base grille

below the freezer compartment door. Rotate the cap

counterclockwise to a vertical position and pull the cap and

filter cartridge out through the base grille.

NOTE: There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may

occur.

4. Line up the INSTALL mark on the water filter label with the

indicator line that is molded into the filter mounting bracket

cover. Push the cartridge into the filter mounting bracket.

Twist the cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the right to lock it into place. The

REMOVE mark should be lined-up with the indicator line

located on the front cover.

2. Remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old

cartridge. The cap will slide to the left or right. DO NOT

DISCARD THE CAP.

Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket

(on some models - Accessory)

To turn the ice maker on/off: (Style 1)

The on/off switch for the ice maker is a wire shut-off arm located

on the side of the ice maker.

1. To turn the ice maker on, simply lower the wire shut-off arm.

NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shut-off. As ice is

made, the ice cubes will fill the ice storage bin and the ice

cubes will raise the wire shut-off arm to the OFF (arm up)

position.

3. Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove

protective cover from o-rings.

2. To manually turn the icemaker off, lift the wire shut-off arm to

the OFF (arm up) position and listen for the click to make sure

the ice maker will not continue to operate.

MAX

4. Slide the cartridge cap onto the new cartridge as shown

above in Step 2.

5. With cartridge cap in the vertical position, push the new filter

cartridge into the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cartridge

cap clockwise to a horizontal position.

To increase ice production rate:

Normal Ice Production: In normal ice production mode, the

ice maker should produce approximately 7 to 9 batches of ice

in a 24-hour period. If ice is not being made fast enough, turn

the Freezer Control toward a higher (colder) number in half

number steps. (For example, if the control is at 3, move it to

between 3 and 4.) Wait 24 hours and, if necessary, gradually

turn the Freezer Control to the highest setting, waiting 24

hours between each increase.

6. Flush the water system by dispensing and discarding

2 to 3 gallons (8 to 12 liters or approximately 6 to 7 minutes)

of water through the dispenser. This will clean the system and

help clear air from the lines. Additional flushing may be

required in some households.

■

Maximum Ice Production (on some models): In maximum

ice production, the ice maker should produce approximately

10 to 14 batches of ice in a 24-hour period. If your refrigerator

has the maximum ice production feature, push the switch to

MAX.

NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out

of the dispenser.

Using the dispenser without the water filter

You can run the dispenser without a water filter cartridge. Your

water will not be filtered. If you run the dispenser without a water

filter cartridge, keep the cartridge cap and replace it in the base

grille for future use.

To remove and replace the ice bin: (Style 1)

1. Pull the covering panel out from the bottom and then slide it

back toward the rear.

1. Remove the base grille water filter cartridge (See “Changing a

base grille water filter cartridge” earlier in this section.) Then

slide the cartridge cap off the end of the filter cartridge. DO

NOT DISCARD THE CAP.

2. Lift the wire shut-off arm so it clicks into the OFF (up)

position. Ice can still be dispensed, but no more can be

made.

3. Lift up the front of the storage bin and pull it out.

Important information to know about glass shelves

and covers:

Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when

they are cold. Shelves and covers may break if exposed to

sudden temperature changes or impact, such as bumping.

For your protection, tempered glass is designed to shatter

into many small, pebble-size pieces. This is normal. Glass

shelves and covers are heavy. Use special care when re-

moving them to avoid impact from dropping.

To remove and replace ice bucket:

1. Place four fingers in bucket base opening and rest thumb on

the release button.

2. Holding the base of the bucket with both hands, depress the

release button and lift the bucket up and out. It is not

necessary to turn the ice maker control to the OFF (right)

position. The ice maker will not produce ice without the

bucket installed in the door.

Refrigerator Shelves

The shelves in your refrigerator are adjustable to meet your

individual storage needs. Your model may have glass or wire

shelves.

Storing similar food items together in your refrigerator and

adjusting the shelves to fit different heights of items will make

finding the exact item you want easier. It will also reduce the

amount of time the refrigerator door is open, and save energy.

■

Normal Ice Production should produce approximately 7 to 9

batches of ice in a 24-hour period.

Slide-out Shelves (on some models)

To slide out shelf, carefully pull front of shelf toward you.

To care for ice storage bin or bucket:

To slide in shelf, push shelf in until it stops.

1. Empty the ice container. Use warm water to melt the ice if

necessary. Never use anything sharp to break up the ice in

the bin or bucket. This can cause damage to the ice container

and the dispenser mechanism.

2. Wash ice bin or bucket with a mild detergent, rinse well and

dry thoroughly. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or

solvents.

REMEMBER:

■

Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.

To remove and replace a shelf in a metal frame:

■

Discard the first three batches of ice produced to avoid

impurities that may be flushed out of the system.

1. Pull the shelf forward to the stop.

2. Tilt the front of the shelf up and lift it slightly as you pull the

shelf from the frame.

■

The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of

the water supplied to your ice maker.

3. Replace the shelf by guiding it back into the slots on the

frame and pushing the shelf in past the stop.

Avoid connecting the ice maker to a softened water supply.

Water softener chemicals (such as salt) can damage parts of

the ice maker and lead to poor quality ice. If a softened water

supply cannot be avoided, make sure the water softener is

operating properly and is well maintained.

Shelves and Shelf Frames

To remove and replace a shelf/frame:

1. Remove the shelf/frame by tilting it up at the front and lifting it

out of the shelf supports.

■

It is normal for the ice cubes to be attached at the corners.

They will break apart easily.

2. Replace the shelf/frame by guiding the rear shelf hooks into

the shelf supports. Tilt the front of the shelf up until rear shelf

hooks drop into the shelf supports.

■

For Style 1, do not force the wire shut-off arm up or down.

Do not store anything on top or in the ice maker or ice bin or

bucket.

3. Lower the front of the shelf and check to make sure that the

shelf is securely in position.

Flip-up Shelf

(on some models)

1. To raise the shelf, pull forward on the lever located at the

bottom front of the shelf and lift until the shelf locks into the

vertical position.

2. To lower the shelf, lower the shelf until it is latched securely

in place.

Lateral Adjustable Shelf

(on some models)

To slide the shelf from side to side:

1. Lift up on the front of shelf and slide to the desired location.

2. Lower shelf to the level position.

NOTE: You do not have to remove small items from the shelf

before moving it from side to side. You may need to remove larger

items.

Adjustable Flip-up Shelf

(on some models)

To raise and lower the shelf:

1. Raise the shelf by first sliding it back and down to make it

half-width. (You can use the shelf in this position to allow

taller items to be stored on the shelf below.)

2. Lift the front of the shelf until it fits securely in place against

the back wall.

To remove the shelf:

3. Lower the shelf securely back into position.

NOTE: The shelf is heavy and must be removed using

both hands.

4. Pull the front of the shelf forward until it fits into place.

1. Hold the back of the shelf with one hand.

2. Lift the front of the shelf with the other hand to a 45° angle

and lower it slightly to release it from the upper channel of the

track. Pull the shelf straight out.

Deli Drawer

The deli drawer stores raisins, nuts, spreads, and other small

items at normal refrigerator temperatures.

To remove and replace the shelf track:

1. Remove the shelf track by lifting both sides of the track

slightly and pulling the track straight out.

To remove and replace the deli drawer:

support slots on the back wall.

1. Remove the deli drawer by sliding it straight out to the stop.

Lift the front and slide the drawer out the rest of the way.

NOTE: Make sure that both sets of track hooks are in the

slots and that the slots are parallel with each other.

To replace the shelf:

NOTE: Make sure that both of the rear shelf slides are securely in

the track before letting go of the shelf. The lateral shelf may be

difficult to install if the track is placed too close to the refrigerator

ceiling. Reposition the track on a lower rung until the shelf can be

tilted enough to easily slide into the track.

1. Hold the shelf at the front and tip the front at a 45° angle to

the track.

2. Insert both of the rear shelf slides into the upper channel of

the track, and lower the front of the shelf into place.

Convertible Vegetable/Meat Drawer

Temperature Control

and Covers

The convertible vegetable/meat drawer can be adjusted to

properly chill meats or vegetables. The air inside the pan is

cooled to prevent “spot” freezing and can be set to keep meats

at the National Livestock and Meat Board recommended storage

temperatures of 28°- 32°F (-2°- 0°C).

(on some models)

To remove and replace the crisper and convertible vegetable

meat drawers:

1. Slide crisper or meat drawer straight out to the stop. Lift the

front of drawer with one hand while supporting the bottom of

drawer with other hand and slide the drawer out the rest of

the way.

IMPORTANT: To extend freshness, wrap meats in airtight,

moisture-proof materials before storing. Always store meat as

recommended.

2. Replace the crisper or meat drawer by sliding it back in fully

Doing so gives the temperature of the food time to change.

2. Lift crisper cover frame up and remove. Repeat steps to

remove the meat drawer cover.

Crisper Humidity Control

(on some models)

You can control the amount of humidity in the moisture-sealed

crisper. Adjust the control to any setting between LOW and

HIGH.

LOW (open) lets moist air out of the crisper for best storage

of fruits and vegetables with skins.

3. Replace back of meat drawer cover frame into supports on

side walls of the refrigerator and lower the front of the cover

frame into place.

Fruit: Wash, let dry and store in refrigerator in plastic bag or

crisper. Do not wash or hull berries until they are ready to use.

Sort and keep berries in original container in crisper, or store

in a loosely closed paper bag on a refrigerator shelf.

4. Slide rear of glass insert into cover frame and lower front into

place. Repeat steps to replace the crisper cover.

Vegetables with skins: Place in plastic bags or plastic

container and store in crisper.

Meat storage guide

Store most meat in original wrapping as long as it is airtight and

moisture-proof. Rewrap if necessary. See the following chart for

storage times. When storing meat longer than the times given,

freeze the meat.

HIGH (closed) keeps moist air in the crisper for best storage

of fresh, leafy vegetables.

Leafy vegetables: Wash in cold water, drain and trim or tear

off bruised and discolored areas. Place in plastic bag or

plastic container and store in crisper.

Frozen food storage guide

Storage times will vary according to the quality and type of food,

the type of packaging or wrap used (should be airtight and

moisture-proof), and the storage temperature. Ice crystals inside

a sealed package are normal. This simply means that moisture in

the food and air inside the package have condensed, creating ice

crystals.

Utility or Egg Bin

(on some models - Accessory)

Depending on your model, you may have a one, two or three

piece bin. Eggs may be stored in the egg tray or loose in the bin.

NOTE: Store eggs in a covered container for long term

storage. If your model does not have an egg storage bin,

store eggs in their original carton on an interior shelf.

Put no more unfrozen food into the freezer than will freeze within

24 hours (no more than 2-3 lb of food per cubic foot [907-1,350 g

per L] of freezer space). Leave enough space in the freezer for air

to circulate around packages. Be careful to leave enough room

for the door to close tightly.

5. Clean the condenser coils regularly. Coils may need to be

cleaned as often as every other month. This may help save

energy.

Crisper Light or Upper Freezer Light (on some models)

Remove light shield by grasping the top center of the shield

and pulling forward while turning it slightly to one side. If

necessary, remove top crisper drawer to access crisper light

shield.

Style 1 - Condenser coils behind base grille:

■

Remove the base grille (see the “Base Grille” section).

■

Replace the light shield by inserting the tabs on one end into

the slotted holes in the refrigerator or freezer liner. Then,

carefully bend the shield at the center to insert the tabs on the

other end.

Use a vacuum with an extended attachment to clean the

condenser coils when they are dusty or dirty.

■

Replace the base grille when finished.

Style 2 - Condenser coils in back of the refrigerator:

■

Pull refrigerator out away from the wall (see the

“Unpacking Your Refrigerator” section).

■

Vacuum coils when they are dusty or dirty.

Roll refrigerator back into place. Make sure to leave 1 in.

(2.5 cm) between the cabinet back and the wall.

Upper Freezer Light (on some models)

■

Check to see if the refrigerator is level.

■

Remove the light shield by grasping the sides and squeezing

in towards the center and while pulling forward the shield.

6. Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Replace the light shield by fitting the tabs into the slotted

holes in the freezer liner. Push in the shield until it snaps into

place.

Changing the Light Bulbs

NOTE: Not all appliance bulbs will fit your refrigerator. Be sure to

replace the bulb with one of the same size and shape. The

dispenser light requires a heavy duty 10-watt bulb. All other lights

require a 40-watt appliance bulb. Replacement bulbs are

available from your dealer.

1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

2. Remove light shield when applicable as shown.

NOTE: To clean a light shield, wash it with warm water and a

liquid detergent. Rinse and dry the shield well.

Lower Freezer Light Beneath Ice Bin (on some models)

■

Remove the light shield by grasping the sides and squeezing

in towards the center. Once the side hooks of shield are free

from the freezer lining, pull down the shield.

3. Remove light bulb and replace with one of the same size,

shape and wattage.

4. Replace light shield when applicable as shown.

5. Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Dispenser Light (on some models)

Replace the light shield by squeezing the sides towards the

center and inserting the side hooks into the slotted holes.

Once the side hooks are in place, snap the front tab into the

slotted hole.

Reach through the dispenser area to remove and replace light

bulb.

Lower Freezer Light Behind Top Freezer Basket (on some

models)

1. Dispenser Light

■

Remove the top freezer basket. Remove light shield by

grasping the top and bottom center of the shield and pulling

forward while turning it slightly to one side until one of the

side tabs become free. Pull out tab from other end and

remove shield.

Control Panel Light

Reach behind the refrigerator control panel to remove and

replace light bulb.

■

Replace the light shield by inserting the tabs on one end into

the slotted hole in the freezer liner. Then, carefully bend the

shield at the center to insert the tabs on the other end.

3. Depending on your model, turn the Thermostat Control (or

Refrigerator Control, depending on the model) to OFF. See

the “Setting the Controls” section.

Power Interruptions

If the electricity in your house goes off, call the power company

and ask how long it will be off.

4. Unplug the refrigerator.

5. Empty water from the defrost pan.

6. Clean, wipe, and dry thoroughly.

refrigerator doors closed to help food stay cold and frozen.

and refer to the “Installing Your Refrigerator” section for

preparation instructions. Also, if your refrigerator has an

automatic ice maker, remember to reconnect the water supply to

the refrigerator.

c) If neither a food locker nor dry ice is available, consume

or can perishable food at once.

REMEMBER: A full freezer stays cold longer than a partially filled

one. A freezer full of meat stays cold longer than a freezer full of

baked goods. If you see that food contains ice crystals, it may be

refrozen, although the quality and flavor may be affected. If the

condition of the food is poor, dispose of it.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Holiday and Moving Care

Try the solutions suggested here first in order to avoid the

cost of an unnecessary service call.

Holidays

If you choose to leave the refrigerator on while you’re away,

use these steps to prepare your refrigerator before you leave.

Your refrigerator will not operate

■

Is the power supply cord unplugged?

1. Use up any perishables and freeze other items.

2. If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker:

Plug into a grounded (earthed) outlet.

Has a household fuse or circuit breaker tripped?

Replace the fuse or reset the circuit.

■

Raise wire shut-off arm to OFF (up) position.

Shut off water supply to the ice maker.

■

Is the refrigerator or freezer control turned to the OFF

position?

Refer to the “Setting the Controls” section.

3. Empty the ice bin.

If you choose to turn the refrigerator off before you leave,

follow these steps.

Is the refrigerator defrosting?

Recheck to see if the refrigerator is operating in 30 minutes.

Your refrigerator will regularly run an automatic defrost cycle.

1. Remove all food from the refrigerator.

2. If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker:

■

Turn off the water supply to the ice maker at least one day

ahead of time.

The lights do not work

When the last load of ice drops, raise the wire shut-off

arm to the OFF (up) position.

■

Is the power supply cord unplugged?

Plug into a grounded (earthed) outlet.

3. Depending on your model, turn the Thermostat Control (or

Refrigerator Control, depending on the model) to OFF. See

the “Setting the Controls” section.

Is a light bulb loose in the socket?

Turn the refrigerator or freezer control to OFF. Disconnect the

refrigerator from the electrical supply. Gently remove the bulb

and reinsert. Then reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical

supply and reset the control.

4. Clean refrigerator, wipe it, and dry well.

5. Tape rubber or wood blocks to the tops of both doors to prop

them open far enough for air to get in. This stops odor and

mold from building up.

■

Is a light bulb burned out?

Replace with an appliance bulb of the same wattage, size,

and shape. See the “Changing the Light Bulbs” section.

Moving

When you are moving your refrigerator to a new home, follow

these steps to prepare it for the move.

There is water in the defrost drain pan

1. If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker:

■

Turn off the water supply to the ice maker at least one day

ahead of time.

■

Is the refrigerator defrosting?

The water will evaporate. It is normal for water to drip into the

defrost pan.

Disconnect the water line from the back of the

refrigerator.

Is it more humid than normal?

Expect that the water in the defrost pan will take longer to

evaporate. This is normal when it is hot or humid.

When the last load of ice drops, raise the wire shut-off

arm to the OFF (up) position.

2. Remove all food from the refrigerator and pack all frozen food

in dry ice.

Is an ice cube jammed in the ejector arm?

The motor seems to run too much

For models with an interior ice bin, remove the ice from the

ejector arm with a plastic utensil. For models with an ice

bucket, access the ice maker by depressing the ice bin

sensor door on the upper left side of the freezer interior. While

depressing the sensor door, lift the ice maker service door

and remove the ice from the ejector with a plastic utensil.

Refer to the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket” section.

Is the room temperature hotter than normal?

Expect the motor to run longer under warm conditions. At

normal room temperatures, expect your motor to run about

40% to 80% of the time. Under warmer conditions, expect it

to run even more of the time.

Has a large amount of food just been added to the

refrigerator?

Adding a large amount of food warms the refrigerator. It is

normal for the motor to run longer in order to cool the

refrigerator back down.

■

Does the ice maker mold have water in it?

Check to see if your refrigerator has been connected to your

home water supply and the supply shut-off valve is turned on.

Refer to the “Connecting the Refrigerator to a Water Source”

section.

Is the door opened often?

NOTE: If not due to any of the above, there may be a problem

with the water line. Call for service.

conserve energy, try to get everything you need out of the

refrigerator at once, keep food organized so it is easy to find,

and close the door as soon as the food is removed.

The ice maker is producing too little ice

Are the controls not set correctly for the surrounding

conditions?

Has the ice maker just been installed?

Wait 72 hours for full ice production to begin. Once your

refrigerator is cooled down, the ice maker should begin

producing 70 to 120 cubes every 24 hours.

Refer to the “Setting the Controls” section.

Are the doors not closed completely?

Push the doors firmly shut. If they will not shut all the way, see

“The doors will not close completely” later in this section.

Has a large amount of ice just been removed?

Allow 24 hours for ice maker to produce more ice.

Are the condenser coils dirty?

Are the controls set correctly?

Refer to the “Setting the Controls” section.

This prevents air transfer and makes the motor work harder.

Clean the condenser coils. Refer to the “Cleaning Your

Refrigerator” section.

Is the water shut-off valve turned completely on?

Turn valve on fully. Refer to the “Connecting the Refrigerator

to a Water Source” section.

Are the door gaskets not sealed all the way around?

Contact a qualified person or a technician.

■

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator?

The filter may be clogged or installed incorrectly. First, check

the filter installation instructions to ensure that the filter was

installed correctly and is not clogged. If installation or

clogging is not a problem, call a qualified person or a

technician.

NOTE: If the problem is not due to any of the above,

remember that your new refrigerator will run longer than your

old one due to its high efficiency motor.

The refrigerator seems to make too much noise

The sounds may be normal for your refrigerator.

Off-taste, odor or grey color in the ice

Refer to the “Understanding Sounds You May Hear” section.

Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or

off-flavored ice?

Discard the first few batches of ice.

The ice maker is not producing ice

■

Is the freezer temperature not cold enough to produce

ice?

Wait 24 hours after ice maker hook-up for ice production.

Refer to the “Setting the Controls” section.

■

Have the ice cubes been stored for too long?

Throw old ice away and make a new supply.

Does the freezer and ice bin or bucket need to be

cleaned?

See the “Cleaning Your Refrigerator” or “Ice Maker and

Storage Bin/Bucket” section.

Is the ice maker wire shut-off arm in the OFF (wire shut-

off arm up) position (on some models)?

Lower wire shut-off arm to the ON (wire shut-off arm down)

position. See the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket”

section.

Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped

properly?

Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help prevent odor

transfer to stored food.

■

Is the ice maker switch in the OFF (right) position (on

some models)?

Move ice maker switch to the ON (left) position. See the “Ice

Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket” section.

■

Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)?

A filter may need to be installed to remove the minerals.

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator?

Grey or dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water

filtration system needs additional flushing. Run additional

water through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration

system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gallons or 6 to 7

minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Is the water line shut-off valve to the refrigerator not

turned on?

Turn on the water valve. See the “Connecting the Refrigerator

to a Water Source” section.

Is there a kink in the home water source line?

The ice dispenser will not operate properly

If you find or suspect a kink in the water line, call for service.

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator?

The filter may be clogged or incorrectly installed. First, check

the filter installation instructions to ensure that the filter was

installed correctly and is not clogged. If installation or

clogging is not a problem, call for service.

■

Is the freezer door closed completely?

Push the door firmly shut. If it will not shut all the way, see

“The doors will not close completely” later in this section.

Is the ice bin or bucket installed correctly?

For models with an interior ice bin, push the ice bin in all the

way. If the ice bin does not go in all the way, it may not be put

in straight. Pull it out and try again. For models with an ice

bucket, the bucket should sit level on the freezer door. To

remove the bucket, press the release button on the right side

of the bucket and lift straight up. Replace the bucket in the

door making sure it is properly aligned and snapped securely

into place. Refer to the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket”

section.

Water or ice is leaking from the dispenser

■

Is the glass not being held under the ice dispenser long

enough, causing the ice to spill?

Hold the container under the ice chute for two to three

seconds after releasing the dispenser lever. A small amount

of ice may dispense after the lever is released.

Is the glass not being held under the water dispenser long

enough, causing water to drip?

Hold the container under the water dispenser two to three

seconds after releasing the dispenser lever. Water may

continue to dispense during this time.

■

Has the wrong ice been added to the bin or bucket?

Use only cubes produced by the current ice maker. If other

cubes have been added, remove all cubes and check to see

that none have become stuck in the delivery chute.

Has the ice frozen in the ice bin or bucket?

Shake the ice bin or bucket to separate cubes. If cubes do

not separate, empty bin or bucket and wait 24 hours for ice to

restock.

■

Is an ice cube stuck in the chute and holding the trap

door open?

Remove the cube.

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator?

The water filtration system may have air in the lines, causing

water to drip. Additional flushing may help clear air from the

lines. Normal dispenser use should flush air from the lines

within 24 to 72 hours.

Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the

ice bucket?

Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice bucket completely.

Allow 24 hours for the ice maker to restock. Do not try to

remove the melted ice with a sharp object. You could damage

the ice bucket.

The dispenser water is not cool enough

■

Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?

Clear the ice from the delivery chute with a plastic utensil. Do

not use anything sharp to remove the ice. You could cause

damage.

■

Has the refrigerator been newly installed?

Allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool completely.

Has a large amount of water been recently dispensed?

Allow 24 hours for the water to cool completely.

■

Is there ice in the bucket?

See “The ice maker is not producing ice” earlier in this

section.

Has water not been recently dispensed?

The first glass of water may not be cool. Discard the first

glass of water.

Has the dispenser arm been held in too long?

Release dispenser arm. Ice will stop dispensing when the arm

is held in too long. Wait three minutes for dispenser motor to

reset before using again. (For future use, take large amounts

of ice directly from the ice bin or bucket, so that the dispenser

arm is not held in too long.)

The divider between the two compartments is warm

■

The warmth is probably due to normal operation of the

automatic exterior moisture control. If still concerned, call for

service.

The water dispenser will not operate properly

Temperature is too warm

■

Is the freezer door not closed completely?

Push the door firmly shut. If it will not shut all the way, see

“The doors will not close completely” later in this section.

Are the air vents blocked in either compartment? This

prevents the movement of cold air from the freezer to the

refrigerator.

Remove any objects from in front of the air vents. Refer to the

“Ensuring Proper Air Circulation” section for the location of air

vents.

Has the water system not filled?

The water system needs to be filled the first time it is used.

Depress the water dispenser bar with a large container until

you draw 2 to 3 gallons (8 to 12 L) of water. Discard water.

Refer to the “Water and Ice Dispensers” section.

Are the door(s) opened often?

Is the water shut-off valve not turned on or the water line

connected at the source?

Check to be sure the water shut-off valve is turned on and the

water source is connected to the refrigerator. Refer to the

“Connecting the Refrigerator to a Water Source” section for

directions.

Be aware that the refrigerator will warm when this occurs. In

order to keep the refrigerator cool, try to get everything you

need out of the refrigerator at once, keep food organized so it

is easy to find, and close the door as soon as the food is

removed.

Has a large amount of food just been added to the

refrigerator or freezer?

Adding a large amount of food warms the refrigerator. It can

take several hours for the refrigerator to return to the normal

temperature.

Is the water shut-off valve clogged or incorrectly

installed?

Refer to the “Connecting the Refrigerator to a Water Source”

section. If clogging or installation is not a problem, call for

service or contact a plumber.

Water flow from the dispenser decreases noticeably

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? The

filter may be full or incorrectly installed. Depending on your

model, remove the water filter cartridge (see the “Base Grille

Water Filtration and Monitoring System or Interior Water

Filtration System” section.) Operate the dispenser. If the

water flow increases noticeably, your filter is full and needs to

be replaced.

Are the door(s) opened often?

To avoid humidity build-up, try to get everything you need out

of the refrigerator at once, keep food organized so it is easy

to find, and close the door as soon as the food is removed.

(When the door is opened, humidity from the room air enters

the refrigerator. The more often the door is opened, the faster

humidity builds up, especially when the room itself is very

humid.)

Is the room humid?

It is normal for moisture to build up inside the refrigerator

when the room air is humid.

“Troubleshooting.” It may save you the cost of a service call. If

containers before placing in the refrigerator.

Para quitar la rejilla de la base:

facilidad. En caso contrario, incline el frigoríﬁco ligeramente más

a la parte posterior girando ambos tornillos niveladores hacia la

derecha. Quizás tenga que girar los tornillos niveladores varias

veces, y deberá cerciorarse de girar ambos tornillos el mismo

número de veces.

Conexión del frigoríﬁco a un

suministro de agua

NOTA: No debe utilizarse con agua que no sea

microbiológicamente segura o de calidad desconocida y

sin la debida desinfección antes o después del sistema.

Con cuidado, saque el cartucho de su embalaje. Quite la tapa

roja del cartucho.

Lea cuidadosamente todas las indicaciones antes de

Coloque en el cartucho la pegatina que corresponda al mes

IMPORTANTE:

Conecte el electrodoméstico únicamente a un suministro de

agua potable.

Presión de agua: 30 a 150 libras por pulgada cuadrada (207

KPa - máx. 1030 KPa).

Instale la tubería de la máquina de hacer hielo en una zona

donde la temperatura esté por encima del punto de

congelación.

Coloque la señal de INSTALL (instalar) de la etiqueta del ﬁltro

alineada con la raya del indicador que está moldeada en la

cubierta del soporte de montaje. Introduzca el cartucho en el

soporte de montaje. Gire el cartucho 1/4 de vuelta a la

derecha para acoplarlo en el lugar correspondiente. La señal

de REMOVE (retirar) deberá estar alineada con la raya del

indicador situada en la cubierta frontal.

Si pone en funcionamiento el frigoríﬁco antes de instalar la

conexión del agua, coloque la máquina de hacer hielo en la

posición OFF (apagado) para evitar que funcione sin agua.

3. Haga funcionar el sistema de agua descargando de 2 a 3

galones (de 8 a 12 litros) de agua o aproximadamente unos 6

ó 7 minutos, a través del distribuidor. Esto limpiará el sistema

Su nuevo frigoríﬁco puede hacer ruidos que su viejo aparato no

hacía. Dado que estos sonidos son nuevos para usted, podría

preocuparse. La mayoría de los sonidos nuevos son normales.

Superﬁcies duras como el suelo, paredes y muebles de cocina

pueden ampliﬁcar los ruidos haciéndolos más fuertes de lo que

son en realidad. A continuación se describen los tipos de ruidos y

qué puede causarlos.

Si su aparato dispone de máquina de hacer hielo, escuchará

un zumbido cuando se abra la válvula de agua a ﬁn de llenar

la máquina de hacer hielo en cada ciclo.

NOTA: Si su modelo tiene el sistema de ﬁltración en la rejilla de la

base, asegúrese de que el ﬁltro esté debidamente instalado y de

que la tapa esté en posición horizontal. Si su modelo tiene un

sistema de ﬁltración de agua interior, siga al paso 2.

El reloj del descongelador hace un chasquido al empezar y al

terminar cada ciclo. Asimismo, el control del termostato (o

Ajuste de los controles

Para su comodidad, los controles de su frigoríﬁco vienen

programados de fábrica. Cuando instale su frigoríﬁco por

primera vez, cerciórese de que los controles aún conserven el

ajuste original. Tanto el control del frigoríﬁco como el del

congelador deberán mantenerse en la posición "intermedia",

como se muestra en las ilustraciones siguientes.

Su frigoríﬁco está diseñado para funcionar lo más eﬁciente

posible a ﬁn de mantener los alimentos a la temperatura

deseada. El alto rendimiento del compresor puede ser causa

de que su nuevo frigoríﬁco funcione por períodos más largos

que su viejo frigoríﬁco, y también puede producir sonidos

pulsantes o agudos.

El agua que gotea en el calentador del descongelador

durante el ciclo de descongelación puede producir

chisporroteos.

El control del frigoríﬁco regula la temperatura del

compartimiento del frigoríﬁco. Los ajustes que están a la

Otro ruido común es el sonido del ventilador del evaporador

Cómo asegurar una adecuada

circulación de aire

A ﬁn de lograr una temperatura adecuada, debe permitir que el

aire ﬂuya entre las dos secciones. El aire frío entra por la parte

inferior de la sección del congelador y sube. Luego entra en la

sección del frigoríﬁco a través del oriﬁcio de ventilación superior.

Luego el aire vuelve al congelador, tal como se ilustra.

NOTA: Su electrodoméstico no enfriará mientras el control del

frigoríﬁco esté en "O" (OFF-apagado).

El control del congelador regula la temperatura del

compartimiento del congelador. Los ajustes que están a la

izquierda de la posición intermedia hacen que la temperatura sea

menos fría. Los ajustes que están a la derecha de la posición

intermedia, hacen que la temperatura sea más fría.

Estilo 1

No obstruya ninguno de estos oriﬁcios de ventilación con

alimentos tales como soda, cereales, pan, etc. Si estos oriﬁcios

de ventilación están obstruidos, el aire no circulará y los

controles de temperatura no funcionarán adecuadamente.

IMPORTANTE: Debido a que el aire circula entre ambas

secciones del frigoríﬁco, los olores que se formen en una sección

pasarán a la otra. Para eliminar los olores, deberá limpiar

meticulosamente ambas secciones. Para evitar que los olores

pasen de una sección a la otra, envuelva o cubra bien los

alimentos.

Estilo 2

Cómo regular los controles

Permita que el frigoríﬁco se enfríe completamente antes de

guardar los alimentos. Lo más conveniente es esperar 24 horas

antes de colocar alimentos en su interior. Los ajuste descritos en

el apartado anterior deberían ser los más adecuados para el uso

doméstico normal de un frigoríﬁco. Los controles estarán bien

regulados cuando la leche y los zumos estén lo bastante fríos y

cuando el helado tenga una consistencia ﬁrme.

Si necesita regular la temperatura del frigoríﬁco o del congelador,

utilice como referencia los ajustes detallados en el cuadro

siguiente. Espere por lo menos 24 horas entre ajustes.

Permita que su frigoríﬁco se enfríe completamente antes de

guardar los alimentos. Lo ideal es esperar 24 horas antes de

del distribuidor automático de modo que el hielo no caiga

fuera del vaso.

para activar el distribuidor automático de hielo. Presionar con

fuerza no va a distribuir el hielo con más rapidez ni en mayor

cantidad.

3. Retire el vaso para detener la distribución del hielo.

NOTA: Las primeras tandas de hielo podrán tener un mal

sabor debido a las piezas y fontanería nuevas. Deshágase de

ese hielo. Asimismo, es mejor coger grandes cantidades de

hielo directamente del recipiente de hielo y no a través del

distribuidor.

Dependiendo del modelo, usted podría disponer de una o más

de las siguientes opciones: capacidad de seleccionar ya sea

hielo picado o en cubitos, una luz especial que se enciende cada

vez que usa el distribuidor automático, o una opción de seguro

para evitar el funcionamiento accidental del distribuidor

automático.

El distribuidor automático de agua

Si cuando instaló el frigoríﬁco por primera vez no efectuó la descarga de

agua del sistema, oprima la barra del distribuidor de agua con un vaso o

una jarra hasta que descargue de 2 a 3 galones de agua (de 8 a 12 litros) o

durante aproximadamente 6 ó 7 minutos. Tardará de tres a cuatro minutos

hasta que el agua comience a salir. El agua que se saca y se elimina, limpia

el sistema y ayuda a despejar el aire de las tuberías. Deje transcurrir varias

horas para que el frigoríﬁco se enfríe y pueda enfriar el agua.

El distribuidor automático de hielo

El hielo que se distribuye viene del recipiente de almacenamiento

de la máquina de hacer hielo, situado en el congelador. Al oprimir

la palanca del distribuidor automático:

IMPORTANTE: Dependiendo de su modelo, la bandeja pequeña

desmontable que se encuentra en el fondo del distribuidor está

diseñada para recoger derrames pequeños y permitir una

limpieza fácil. La bandeja no tiene drenaje. La bandeja puede

quitarse del distribuidor y ser llevada a un lavabo para vaciarla y

limpiarla.

Se abre una trampilla en un vertedor que está entre el

distribuidor automático y el recipiente del hielo.

El hielo se desplaza desde el recipiente y cae a través del

vertedor.

Al soltar la palanca del distribuidor automático, la trampilla se

cierra y se detiene la distribución del hielo. El sistema de

distribución no funcionará si la puerta del congelador está

abierta.

Algunos modelos distribuyen cubitos de hielo y hielo picado.

Antes de distribuir el hielo, elija el tipo de hielo de su preferencia.

Los controles de pulso están diseñados para facilitar su uso y

limpieza.

Para servir el agua:

Para obtener hielo en cubitos, pulse el botón CUBE (cubitos)

hasta que el indicador rojo aparezca en la pantalla situada

encima del botón CUBE.

La luz del distribuidor automático

La zona del distribuidor tiene una luz. Se puede encender

manualmente pulsando el botón ON (encendido) que está al lado

derecho del panel de controles. El indicador rojo que está encima

del botón ON aparecerá. En algunos modelos: Cada vez que

utilice el distribuidor, la palanca automáticamente encenderá la luz.

Para obtener hielo picado, pulse el botón CRUSH (picado)

hasta que el indicador rojo aparezca en la pantalla situada

encima del botón CRUSH.

Para obtener hielo picado, los cubitos son picados antes de ser

distribuidos. Esto puede ocasionar una pequeña demora en la

distribución del hielo picado. El ruido proveniente del triturador

de hielo es normal y los trozos de hielo pueden variar en tamaño.

Al cambiar de CRUSH a CUBE, se distribuirán unas onzas de

hielo picado junto con los primeros cubitos de hielo.

NOTA: Consulte la sección "Cómo cambiar las bombillas" para

obtener información respecto al cambio de la bombilla del

distribuidor automático.

En modelos que no disponen de hielo picado, el interruptor de

luz es del tipo oscilante. Empuje el interruptor para encender la

luz, y empújelo de nuevo para apagar la luz.

5. Haga funcionar el sistema de agua descargando de 2 a 3

galones de agua (de 8 a 10 litros) o aproximadamente unos 6

Luz indicadora del ﬁltro de agua de la rejilla de la base

La luz indicadora del ﬁltro de agua le ayudará a saber cuándo

debe cambiar el cartucho del ﬁltro de agua. La luz está situada

en la parte superior del compartimiento de su frigoríﬁco. La luz

cambiará de verde a amarilla. Esto le indica que se acerca el

superior del compartimiento para alimentos frescos del

frigoríﬁco. Se recomienda cambiar el cartucho del ﬁltro de agua

cada seis meses o antes si el ﬂujo de agua del distribuidor o de la

máquina de hacer hielo disminuye de modo evidente.

NOTA: No debe utilizarse con agua que no sea

microbiológicamente segura o de calidad desconocida y sin

la debida desinfección antes o después del sistema.

Cómo cambiar el cartucho del ﬁltro de agua interior

1. Gire el cartucho un 1/4 de vuelta a la izquierda. La señal de

INSTALL (Instalar) deberá alinearse con la raya del indicador

situada en la cubierta del soporte de montaje del ﬁltro.

Control de temperatura del compartimiento

convertible para verduras/carne

El compartimiento convertible para verduras/carne puede

regularse para refrigerar adecuadamente las carnes o verduras.

El aire interior del recipiente se enfría para prevenir el

congelamiento "de punto" y puede regularse para guardar las

carnes a temperaturas de almacenamiento que recomienda el

National Livestock and Meat Board (Consejo nacional de

productos ganaderos y de carne), las cuales son: 28º a 32ºF (-2º

a 0ºC).

Para quitar y volver a colocar la fresquera y el

compartimiento para verduras/carne:

1. Deslice la fresquera o el compartimiento para carne hacia

fuera hasta que llegue al tope. Levante la parte delantera del

compartimiento con una mano mientras sujeta la parte

inferior con la otra mano y deslícelo hasta que salga.

2. Vuelva a colocar la fresquera o el compartimiento para carne

deslizándolo hacia atrás hasta pasar el tope.

IMPORTANTE: Para prolongar la frescura, envuelva las carnes

con materiales herméticos y resistentes a la humedad antes de

guardarlas. Guarde siempre la carne tal como se recomienda.

Ajuste del control

El control convertible viene preﬁjado de fábrica en el ajuste más

hacia arriba en el centro de la parte de vidrio de la fresquera

hasta que se separe del marco de plástico. Detenga el vidrio

de la fresquera ﬁrmemente y con cuidado deslícelo hacia

delante para quitarlo.

2. Levante el marco de la tapa de la fresquera y quítelo. Repita

los mismos pasos para quitar la tapa del compartimiento

hermética. Regule el control hacia cualquier ajuste entre LOW y

HIGH.

en las paredes laterales del frigoríﬁco y baje la parte delantera

del marco de la tapa hasta colocarlo en su lugar.

4. Deslice la parte posterior del vidrio que está insertado en el

marco de la tapa y baje la parte delantera hasta colocarla en

su lugar. Repita los mismos pasos para colocar la tapa de la

fresquera.

Fruta: Lávela, déjela secar y guárdela en el frigoríﬁco en

bolsas de plástico o en la fresquera. No lave ni quite los

cabitos a las moras o fresas hasta el momento de usarlas.

Separe y guarde las moras en sus recipientes originales en la

fresquera o guárdelas en una bolsa de papel cerrada en un

estante del frigoríﬁco.

Guía para la conservación de carnes

Conserve la mayoría de las carnes en el envoltorio original de la tienda,

siempre y cuando sea hermético y a prueba de humedad. Envuélvalas

de nuevo si es necesario. Para el tiempo de conservación, consulte la

tabla que ﬁgura a continuación. Cuando vaya a almacenar la carne por

más tiempo del aquí indicado, congélela.

Verduras con cáscara: Colóquelas en bolsas de plástico o

en recipientes de plástico y guárdelas en la fresquera.

Pescado fresco o mariscos..... usar el mismo día en que se compró

de aluminio o póngalas en recipientes de plástico con tapas

herméticas.

Guía para la conservación de alimentos congelados

Los tiempos de conservación variarán de acuerdo con la calidad y el tipo de

alimentos, el tipo de empaquetadura o envoltura utilizadas (deberá ser

hermética y resistente a la humedad) y la temperatura de almacenamiento.

La presencia de cristales de hielo dentro de los paquetes sellados es normal.

Esto simplemente signiﬁca que la humedad de los alimentos y el aire interior

del paquete se han condensado, dando lugar a la formación de cristales de

hielo.

No ponga más alimentos no congelados en el congelador de los que se

puedan congelar dentro de 24 horas (no más de 2 a 3 libras de alimentos por

pie cúbico [907-1350 g por L] de espacio del congelador). Deje suﬁciente

espacio en el congelador para que el aire circule alrededor de los paquetes.

Asegúrese de dejar suﬁciente espacio que permita el cierre hermético de la

deseado y empujándolo hacia abajo hasta que se detenga.

Tanto su nevera como su congelador descongelan

automáticamente. No obstante, limpie ambas secciones una vez

al mes, aproximadamente, para evitar la formación de olores.

Limpie los derrames inmediatamente.

Para limpiar su frigoríﬁco:

1. Desenchufe el frigoríﬁco o interrumpa el suministro eléctrico.

concentrados, lejías o productos de limpieza que

contengan derivados del petróleo sobre las partes de

plástico, las superﬁcies internas o el revestimiento de la

puerta o juntas.

2. Vuelva a colocar el portalatas, sujetándolo encima del

soporte deseado y empujándolo hacia atrás y hacia abajo

hasta que se detenga.

No utilice toallas de papel, estropajos u otros artículos de

limpieza ásperos ya que podrían arañar o dañar los

materiales.

Para ayudar a eliminar los olores, usted puede lavar las

paredes internas con una solución de agua tibia y

bicarbonato de soda (2 cucharadas por un cuarto [26 g

por 0,95 L] de agua).

4. Lave las superﬁcies externas de acero inoxidable y de metal

pintadas con una esponja limpia o una gamuza suave y un

detergente neutro diluido en agua tibia. No utilice productos

de limpieza abrasivos o ásperos. Seque meticulosamente

con un paño suave.

Para lograr una protección adicional contra daños a las

superﬁcies metálicas externas pintadas, aplique cera para

electrodomésticos (o cera en pasta para coches) con un

paño limpio y suave. No encere las partes de plástico.

5. Limpie regularmente los serpentines del condensador. Los

toda conﬁanza, aunque la calidad y el sabor pueden verse afectados. Si el

producto no es de muy buena calidad tírelo.

Ponga en práctica las sugerencias que ﬁguran a continuación antes

de incurrir en gastos innecesarios de una visita de servicio técnico.

Vacaciones

El frigoríﬁco no funciona

Si decide dejar el frigoríﬁco encendido mientras está fuera, siga estas

instrucciones para preparar el frigoríﬁco antes de irse.

El cable está desenchufado

Enchufe el cable un enchufe con puesta a tierra.

1. Consuma todos los alimentos perecederos y congele el resto.

2. Si su frigoríﬁco dispone de máquina de hacer hielo:

Se ha fundido un fusible o han saltado los plomos

Reemplace el fusible y vuelva a poner los plomos.

Levante el brazo de alambre a la posición OFF (apagado).

Cierre el suministro de agua a la máquina de hacer hielo.

Su frigoríﬁco activará automáticamente un ciclo de descongelación

automática.

Apague el suministro de agua a la máquina de hacer hielo por lo

menos un día antes.

Las luces no se encienden

Cuando la última tanda de hielo haya bajado, levante el brazo de

alambre a la posición OFF (apagado).

El cable está desenchufado

Enchufe el cable en un enchufe con puesta a tierra.

Hay agua en la bandeja de descongelación

1. Si su frigoríﬁco dispone de una máquina de hacer hielo:

Un cubito de hielo está obstruyendo el mecanismo de

eyección

Parece que el motor funciona en exceso

Para modelos dotados de un recipiente de hielo, quite el hielo

del mecanismo de eyección empleando un utensilio de

plástico. Para modelos dotados de una cubitera, puede tener

acceso a la máquina de hacer hielo, oprimiendo la puerta

sensora del recipiente de hielo que está en el lado superior

izquierdo del interior del congelador. Al tiempo que oprime la

puerta sensora, levante la puerta de servicio de la máquina

de hacer hielo y quite el hielo del eyector con un utensilio de

plástico. Consulte la sección "Máquina de hacer hielo y

recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento."

Hace más calor de lo habitual

Cuando hace calor, lo normal es que el motor funcione por

más tiempo. A temperaturas ambientales normales, el motor

funcionará de un 40 a un 80% del tiempo. A temperaturas

más altas, el motor funcionará durante más tiempo.

Se acaban de colocar muchos productos nuevos en el

frigoríﬁco

Cuando se agregan muchos productos nuevos el frigoríﬁco

se calienta. Es normal que el motor funcione por más tiempo

para poder refrigerar la nevera de nuevo.

El molde de la máquina de hacer hielo no tiene agua

Compruebe que el frigoríﬁco esté conectado a su suministro

de agua doméstico y que la válvula de paso esté abierta.

Consulte la sección “Conexión del frigoríﬁco al suministro de

agua”.

La puerta se abre a menudo

El motor deberá funcionar por más tiempo cuando esto

sucede. Para ahorrar electricidad, trate de sacar todo lo que

necesita del frigoríﬁco de una sola vez, mantenga los

productos ordenados de tal manera que sea fácil encontrar lo

que busca y cierre la puerta inmediatamente después de

sacar lo que desea.

NOTA: Si el problema no se debe a ninguna de estas

razones, puede haber un problema en la tubería de agua.

Llame al servicio técnico.

Los controles no están regulados correctamente de

acuerdo con las condiciones ambientales

Consulte la sección “Ajuste de los controles”.

La máquina de hacer hielo fabrica muy poca cantidad de hielo

Las puertas no están bien cerradas

Acaba de instalar la máquina de hacer hielo

Cierre bien las puertas. Si no quedan completamente

cerradas, consulte el apartado “Las puertas no cierran

completamente” que ﬁgura más adelante.

Espere 72 horas para que la máquina de hacer hielo fabrique

hielo según su plena capacidad. Una vez que su frigoríﬁco se

haya enfriado, la máquina de hacer hielo empezará a fabricar

de 70 a 120 cubitos cada 24 horas.

El serpentín del condensador está sucio

Esto impide la circulación de aire y hace que el motor tenga

que trabajar aún más. Limpie el serpentín del condensador.

Acaba de sacar una gran cantidad de hielo

Deje que transcurran 24 horas antes de que la máquina de

hacer hielo retome la producción.

Las juntas de las puertas no están bien selladas

Póngase en contacto con una persona o técnico cualiﬁcado.

No se han regulado correctamente los controles

Consulte la sección “Ajuste de los controles”.

NOTA: Si el problema no responde a ninguna de las causas

antes citadas, recuerde que su nuevo frigoríﬁco funcionará

por períodos más prolongados que el antiguo debido a su

motor de alta eﬁciencia.

La válvula de paso del suministro del agua no está abierta

del todo

Abra del todo la válvula de paso. Consulte la sección

“Conexión del frigoríﬁco al suministro de agua”.

Se ha instalado un ﬁltro de agua en el frigoríﬁco

El ﬁltro puede estar atascado o mal instalado.

En primer lugar, consulte las instrucciones de instalación del

ﬁltro para cerciorarse de que el ﬁltro esté bien instalado y de

que no esté atascado. Si el problema no radica ni en la

instalación ni en que está atascado, llame a un técnico

cualiﬁcado.

Parece que el frigoríﬁco hace demasiado ruido

Estos ruidos pueden ser normales para su frigoríﬁco.

Consulte la sección “Cómo interpretar los ruidos procedentes

de su frigoríﬁco”.

La máquina de hacer hielo no fabrica hielo

El hielo tiene mal sabor, mal olor o un color gris

La temperatura del congelador no es lo suﬁcientemente

fría para hacer hielo

Las conexiones de las tuberías son nuevas, lo que

causaría que el hielo tuviera un color raro o mal sabor

Deseche las primeras tandas de hielo.

Espere 24 horas después de haber conectado la máquina de

hacer hielo. Consulte la sección “Ajuste de los controles”.

Los cubitos de hielo han estado almacenados por largo

tiempo

Tire el hielo viejo y haga nuevas tandas.

El brazo de alambre de la máquina de hacer hielo está en

apropiada

Para evitar la transferencia de olores a los alimentos

almacenados, emplee envolturas herméticas y resistentes a

la humedad.

El agua contiene minerales (como sulfuro)

Debería instalar un ﬁltro para eliminar los minerales.

La válvula de paso del suministro del agua no está abierta

Abra la válvula de paso. Consulte la sección “Conexión del

frigoríﬁco al suministro de agua”.

Se ha instalado un ﬁltro de agua en el frigoríﬁco

La coloración grisácea u oscura en el hielo indica que el

sistema de ﬁltración de agua necesita una limpieza adicional.

Deje correr más agua a través del distribuidor de agua para

purgar completamente el sistema de ﬁltración de agua (por lo

menos 2 a 3 galones o 6 a 7 minutos para comenzar).

Deshágase del hielo con color.

Cierre bien la puerta. Si no queda completamente cerrada,

detalla más adelante en esta sección.

Se ha instalado un ﬁltro de agua en el frigoríﬁco

Este ﬁltro podría estar obstruido o mal instalado. En primer

lugar, veriﬁque las instrucciones de instalación del ﬁltro para

cerciorarse de que el ﬁltro ha sido instalado correctamente y no

está obstruido. Si no se trata de una obstrucción o mala

instalación, llame al servicio técnico.

El recipiente del hielo o cubitera no está bien instalado

Para modelos dotados de un recipiente interior del hielo, empuje el

recipiente del hielo por completo. Si el recipiente del hielo no entra

completamente, no podrá enderezarse. Tire del mismo hacia fuera

e inténtelo de nuevo. Para modelos dotados de una cubitera, ésta

deberá asentarse de modo horizontal en la puerta del congelador.

Para quitar la cubitera, pulse el botón liberador que está en el lado

derecho de la cubitera y levántela hacia arriba. Vuelva a colocar la

cubitera en la puerta, cerciorándose de que esté debidamente

alineada y que haya encajado con ﬁrmeza en su lugar. Consulte la

sección "Máquina de hacer hielo y recipiente/cubitera de

almacenamiento."

Goteo de agua o hielo proveniente del distribuidor automático

No se mantiene el vaso debajo del distribuidor de hielo el

tiempo suﬁciente para evitar derrames del hielo

Se ha agregado hielo inapropiado en el recipiente o cubitera

Utilice únicamente cubitos producidos por la máquina de hacer

hielo. Si se han agregado otros cubitos, retire todos los cubitos y

El hielo se ha congelado en el recipiente del hielo o cubitera

Sacuda el recipiente del hielo o cubitera para separar los cubitos.

Se ha instalado un ﬁltro de agua en el frigoríﬁco

El sistema de ﬁltración del agua podría tener aire en las tuberías,

lo que ocasiona chorreo del agua. Una purga adicional podrá

ayudar a eliminar el aire que se encuentra en las tuberías. El uso

normal del distribuidor automático deberá eliminar el aire de las

tuberías en un período de 24 a 72 horas.

Hay hielo pegado obstruyendo el vertedor

Despeje el hielo que está en el vertedor con un utensilio de

plástico. No utilice nada aﬁlado para quitar el hielo. Podría

dañar la unidad.

El agua del distribuidor no está bien fría

El frigoríﬁco acaba de ser instalado

Deje transcurrir 24 horas para que el frigoríﬁco se enfríe por

completo.

No hay hielo en la cubitera

Consulte "La máquina de hacer hielo no está produciendo

hielo" que se detalló anteriormente en esta sección.

Se ha servido una gran cantidad de agua recientemente

Deje transcurrir 24 horas para que el tanque se enfríe por

completo.

Se ha presionado el brazo del distribuidor por mucho tiempo

Suelte el brazo del distribuidor. Si se presiona el brazo del

distribuidor por mucho tiempo, se detendrá la distribución del

hielo. Espere tres minutos para que el motor del distribuidor se

reajuste antes de usarlo nuevamente. (Para uso futuro, coja

grandes cantidades de hielo directamente de la máquina de hacer

hielo para evitar presionar el brazo del distribuidor por mucho

tiempo.)

No se ha servido agua recientemente

El primer vaso de agua quizás no esté bien fría. Tire el primer

vaso de agua.

La división entre los dos compartimientos está muy caliente

El distribuidor de agua no funciona correctamente

Este calor probablemente se deba al funcionamiento normal del

control automático de humedad exterior. Si le preocupa, llame

al servicio técnico.

La puerta del congelador no está bien cerrada

Cierre bien la puerta. Si no cierra por completo, consulte "Las

puertas no cierran bien" más adelante en esta sección.

La temperatura es demasiado alta

El sistema de agua no está lleno

El sistema de agua necesita llenarse la primera vez que se le

utilice. Oprima la barra del distribuidor automático del agua con

un recipiente grande hasta que extraiga 2 a 3 galones (8 a 12 L)

de agua. Tire el agua. Consulte la sección "Distribuidores

automáticos del agua y hielo."

Las rejillas de ventilación de alguno de los compartimientos

están bloqueadas. Esto impide el movimiento de aire frío

del congelador al frigoríﬁco

Retire todos los objetos de delante de las rejillas de ventilación.

La válvula de paso del agua no está abierta o el suministro

de agua no está conectado a la fuente

Cerciórese de que la válvula de paso del agua está abierta y

La(s) puerta(s) se abre(n) a menudo

Recuerde que, cuando esto pasa, el frigoríﬁco sube de

temperatura. Para mantener frío el frigoríﬁco, trate de sacar

todo lo que necesita del frigoríﬁco de una sola vez, mantenga

los productos ordenados de tal manera que sea fácil encontrar

lo que busca y cierre la puerta inmediatamente después de

sacar lo que desea.

La válvula de paso del agua está obstruida o mal instalada

Consulte la sección "Conexión del frigoríﬁco a un suministro de

agua". Si no hay problema de instalación o de obstrucción,

llame al servicio técnico o a un fontanero.

Se acaban de colocar muchos productos nuevos en el

frigoríﬁco o en el congelador

nuevo. Para modelos dotados de una cubitera, ésta deberá asentarse

de modo horizontal en la puerta del congelador. Para quitar la

cubitera, pulse el botón liberador que está en el lado derecho de la

cubitera y levántela hacia arriba. Vuelva a colocar la cubitera en la

puerta, cerciorándose de que esté debidamente alineada y que haya

encajado con ﬁrmeza en su lugar. Consulte la sección "Máquina de

hacer hielo y recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento."
