Before installing and operating the projector, read this manual
thoroughly.
The projector provides many convenient features and
functions. Operating the projector properly enables you to
manage those features and maintains it in good condition for
many years to come.
Improper operation may result in not only shortening the
product life, but also malfunctions, fire hazard, or other
accidents.
If your projector seems to operate improperly, read this
manual again, check operations and cable connections and try
the solutions in the โTroubleshootingโ section in the back of
this manual. If the problem still persists, contact the dealer
where you purchased the projector or the service center.

and rear of the projector cabinet is critical for proper air
circulation and cooling of the unit. The dimensions shown
here indicate the minimum space required. If the projector

up can reduce the service life of your projector, and can also

ceiling, clean the air intake vents, air filters,
and the top of the projector periodically

Safety Instructions
All the safety and operating instructions should be read before
the product is operated.
This projector should be operated only from the type of power
source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of
the type of power supplied, consult your authorized dealer or
local power company.
Read all of the instructions given here and retain them for
later use. Unplug this projector from AC power supply before
cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp
cloth for cleaning.
Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can
result in fire or electric shock. Do not allow anything to rest on
the power cord. Do not locate this projector where the cord
may be damaged by persons walking on it.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the projector.
For added protection to the projector during lightning storm, or
when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage due to
lightning and power line surges.
Do not attempt to service this projector yourself as opening
or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage
or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service
personnel.
Unplug this projector from wall outlet and refer servicing to
qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
b. If liquid has been spilled into the projector.
Do not expose this unit to rain or use near water... for
example, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc...
Do not use attachments not recommended by the
manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
c. If the projector has been exposed to rain or water.
d. If the projector does not operate normally by following
the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that
are covered by the operating instructions as improper
adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will
often require extensive work by a qualified technician to
restore the projector to normal operation.
e. If the projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been
damaged.
f. When the projector exhibits a distinct change in
performance, this indicates a need for service.
Do not place this projector on an unstable cart, stand, or
table. The projector may fall, causing serious injury to a child
or adult, and serious damage to the projector. Use only with
a cart or stand recommended by the manufacturer, or sold
with the projector. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the
manufacturerโs instructions, and should use a mounting kit
approved by the manufacturers.
An appliance and cart combination
should be moved with care. Quick stops,
excessive force, and uneven surfaces
may cause the appliance and cart
combination to overturn.
When replacement parts are required, be sure the service
technician has used replacement parts specified by the
manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original
part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric
shock, or injury to persons.
Slots and openings in the back and bottom of the cabinet are
provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable operation of the
equipment and to protect it from overheating.
Upon completion of any service or repairs to this projector,
ask the service technician to perform routine safety checks to
determine that the projector is in safe operating condition.
The openings should never be covered with cloth or other
materials, and the bottom opening should not be blocked
by placing the projector on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar
surface. This projector should never be placed near or over a
radiator or heat register.

conditioning equipment.

Air Circulation
Installing the Projector in Proper Position
Openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation. To
ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from
overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered.
Install the projector properly. Improper installation may reduce
the lamp life and cause fire hazard.

Do not tilt the projector more than 20
degrees from side to side.

CAUTION
Hot air is exhausted from the exhaust vent. When using or
installing the projector, the following precautions should be
taken.
Do not point the projector up to
project an image.
NO UPWARD
โDo not put any flammable objects or spray can near the
projector. Hot air is exhausted from the ventilation holes.
โKeep the exhaust vent at least 3โ (1 m) away from any
objects.
Do not point the projector down to
project an image.
โDo not touch a peripheral part of the exhaust vent,
especially screws and metallic part. This area will become
hot while the projector is being used.
NO DOWNWARD
โDo not put anything on the projector. Objects put on the
cabinet will not only get damaged but also cause fire
hazard by heat.
Do not put the projector on either side
to project an image.
Cooling fans are provided to cool down the projector.
The fanโs running speed is changed according to the
temperature inside the projector.
NO SIDEWARD
CAUTION
โ Set the highland mode properly according to the altitude
in which the projector is being used (p.38). Failure to do
so may affect the projector life.
CAUTION ON CEILING MOUNTING
For ceiling mounting, you need the ceiling mount kit
designed for this projector. When not mounted properly,
the projector may fall, causing hazards or injury. For
details, consult your dealer. The warranty on this projector
does not cover any damage caused by use of any non-
recommended ceiling mount kit or installation of the
ceiling mount kit in an improper location.

Moving the Projector
โ Do not drop or bump the projector, otherwise damages or
malfunctions may result.
When moving the projector, make sure that the automatic
slide shutter is closed, retract the adjustable feet, and lock the
lens with the Lens Shift Lock to prevent damage to the lens
and cabinet.
โ When carrying the projector, use a suitable carrying case.
โ Do not transport the projector by courier or any other
transport service in an unsuitable transport case. This
may cause damage to the projector. For information
about transporting the projector by courier or any other
transport service, consult your dealer.
When the projector is unused for an extended period, put it
into a suitable case.
Care must be taken when handling the projector; do not drop,
bump, subject it to strong forces, or put other things on the
cabinet.
โ Do not put the projector in a case before it is cooled
enough.

AC Power Cord used in the United States and Canada is listed by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and
certified by the Canadian Standard Association (CSA).
AC Power Cord has a grounding-type AC line plug. This is a safety feature to be sure that the plug will fit into the
power outlet. Do not try to defeat this safety feature. Should you be unable to insert the plug into the outlet,
contact your electrician.

Point the remote control toward the projector (Infrared Remote Receiver) when pressing any buttons. Maximum operating
range for the remote control is about 16.4โ (5 m) and 60 degrees in front of the projector.

Positioning the Projector
This projector is designed to project on a flat projection surface having a focus range of 3.9โ (1.2 m) to 30.2โ (9.2 m) at
maximum zoom and 7.9โ (2.4 m) to 60.4โ (18.4 m) at minimum zoom. Refer to the figure and table below for the screen size
and distance between the projector and screen.

Adjustable Feet
Projection angle can be adjusted up to 6.5 degrees with the

Rotate the adjustable feet and tilt the projector to the proper
height; to raise the feet, rotate the both feet clockwise.

Moving the Lens
The projection lens can be moved up and down or left and right manually with the Lens Shift Rings, enabling you to adjust
the position of a projected image. After adjusting the position, lock the lens with the Lens Shift Lock.

Connecting the AC Power Cord
This projector uses nominal input voltages of 100 โ 120 V AC and it
automatically selects a correct input voltage. It is designed to work
with the single-phase power systems having a grounded neutral
conductor. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not plug into
any other type of power system.
If you are not sure of the type of power being supplied, consult
your authorized dealer or service station.
Connect the projector with all peripheral equipment before turning
it on.
CAUTION
Connect the AC power cord (supplied) to the
projector.
The AC outlet must be near this equipment and must be easily
accessible.
โNote:
For safety, unplug the AC power cord when the projector is not
in use.
When the projector is connected to an outlet with the AC
power cord and the Main On/Off switch is on, it is in stand-by
mode and consumes a little electric power. Turn the Main On/
Off switch off when the projector is not in use.
NOTE ONTHE POWER CORD
AC power cord must meet the requirements of the country where you use the projector.
Confirm the AC plug type with the chart below and proper AC power cord must be used.
If the supplied AC power cord does not match your AC outlet, contact your sales dealer.

Basic Operation
Turning On the Projector
Complete peripheral connections (with a computer, VCR,
etc.) before turning on the projector.

Connect the projectorโs AC power cord into an AC outlet and
turn the Main On/Off switch on. The POWER indicator lights
red.

Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the top control or
on the remote control.

The POWER indicator turns green and the cooling fans start to
operate. As the automatic slide shutter opens, a preparation
display appears on the screen and the countdown starts.

After the countdown, the input source that was selected the
last time appears on the screen.

โข If the automatic slide shutter does not open properly, the projector
will not be turned on and the POWER indicator will blink orange.
Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button again to restart.
โข When โCountdown offโ or โOffโ is selected in the Display function,
the countdown will not be displayed on the screen (p.40).
โข During the countdown period, all operations are invalid.
โข Image may look dark for a while after turning on the projector.
Lamp needs some time to stabilize after the power is turned on.
Stored lamp mode and the image mode will be active after the
lamp is stabilized.
Selected Input Source
Use this tab when handling manually.
โข When the shutter is manually closed slightly during projection, the
shutter will be automatically closed.
Automatic Slide Shutter
Do not touch the slide shutter while it is
moving, as this could cause injury or the
projector to malfunction.

Turning Off the Projector
Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the top control
or on the remote control. โPower off?โ appears on the
screen. Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button again to
turn off the projector.

When the Power off confirmation function is set to โOff,โ
the projector can be turned off without the confirmation
message. (See โPower off confirmationโ on page 40.)
โPower off?โ disappears after 4 seconds.
The automatic slide shutter closes and the POWER indicator
starts to blink red. The blinking continues for about 90
seconds while the cooling fans are running.
When the projector is cooled down enough to be turned on
again, the POWER indicator stops blinking. Then you can turn
the Main On/Off switch off and unplug the AC power cord.

โข If the automatic slide shutter is closed during operation, the
projector is automatically turned off for safety. Be sure to turn off
the projector by pressing the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the
top control or on the remote control after use.
โข While the POWER indicator is blinking, the lamp is being cooled
down and the projector cannot be turned on. Wait until the POWER
indicator stops blinking to be turned on again.
โข The running speed of cooling fans is changed according to the
temperature inside the projector.
โข If the WARNING indicator blinks or emits red light, see โWarning
Indicatorโ on page 44.
โข Do not put the projector in a case before it is cooled enough.

How to Operate the On-Screen Menu
The projector can be adjusted or set via the On-Screen Menu.
The menus have a hierarchical structure, with a main menu that
is divided into submenus, which are further divided into other
submenus. For each adjustment and setting procedure, refer to
respective sections in this manual.

Remote Control Operation
For some frequently used operations, using the remote control is advisable. Just pressing one of the buttons enables you to
have the desired operation quickly, and no need for calling up the On-Screen Menu.

Press the LIGHT button to light up the remote control buttons. The
light is automatically turned off when no buttons on the remote
control are pressed for 10 seconds.

Press the RESET button to reset the adjusted data. All adjustments
return to their previous figures. When a main menu item is
selected, its entire submenu items are reset; when a submenu

โ 33) and Picture Adjustment Menu (p.34).

When the video signal is connected to the HDMI 1 or HDMI 2
terminals, select HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 respectively.
The projector automatically detects the incoming video signal and
adjusts itself to optimize its performance.
If the output signal of video equipment and the input signal of the
projector do not match, you might not get an image with the best
quality.
If the blacks of the picture appears unclear (too dark or too light),
try โHDMI 1 setupโ or โHDMI 2 setupโ in the Setting Menu on
page 38.
โNote:
โข When switching from HDMI1 to HDMI2 or vice versa, the signal
may be interrupted for a moment depending on the equipment.
Computer
When the signal is connected to the COMPUTER connector, select
Computer.
When the input source is analog coming from
a computer connected to the COMPUTER
connector, select RGB (Analog).

Auto . . . . Auto adjustment according to the video signal or film
signal (3-2 and 2-2 pulldown video sources.)
Noise reduction
Noise interference on the screen can be reduced. Press the Point
7 8 buttons to change the noise reduction mode.
Off . . . . Noise reduction mode is โOffโ
On . . . . Noise reduction mode is โOnโ

โข If any one of the White balance (Red, Green, or Blue) are adjusted,
the Color temp. level changes to โUser.โ
โข Progressive cannot be selected with the computer input and when
the video signal format is 480p, 575p, 720p, or 1080p.

when the video signal format is 1080p.

This function can be selected only when Advanced menu in the
Setting Menu (see page 37) is set to โOn.โYou can adjust the
following items through this function.
Iris mode
Adjust the lamp aperture. Select from the following options:
Mode 1. . Brightness is prioritized over contrast
Mode 2. . Contrast is prioritized over brightness
Fixed. . . . Fixed lamp aperture set in the Iris range

Adjust the upper limit of the lamp aperture (from -63 to 0).

Auto black stretch
Enhance blacks in bright areas of an image. It can be set in 4 steps

Adjust the contrast in bright scenes in 4 steps (Off/Low/Mid/High).

Adjust the level, phase, and gamma of any color. You can store
up to eight (8) color management data. For details, see โCOLOR
MANAGEMENTโ on page 32.
Dynamic gamma
Set the level for Dynamic gamma correction. Select from the
following options:
Off . . . . . Disable dynamic gamma correction
Low . . . . Small correction
Mid. . . . . Medium correction
High . . . . Large correction

Optimally separates the color and brightness signal to reduce
cross-color and dot interference. Press the Point 7 8 buttons to
change the 3D-Y/C mode.

Custom gamma
Adjust R, G, B to get the desired balance of contrast.

Select Custom gamma in the Advanced menu and press the
Point 8 or OK buttons. The custom gamma window appears. Use
the Point ed buttons to choose the desired item from Gamma
R, Gamma G, and Gamma B and then press the Point 8 or OK
buttons to display the gamma adjustment window. The colored
gamma pointer indicates where you are making an adjustment.
The white gamma pointer indicates where the value is set.

end bars) to adjust the gamma value. The adjustment you make
reflects on the screen as you change the adjustment value.

COLOR MANAGEMENT LIST
Select Color management in the Advanced menu and then
press the Point 8 or OK buttons. The COLOR MANAGEMENT
LIST appears. You can store up to eight (8) color management
data in the list.
In the COLOR MANAGEMENT LIST, the adjusted color data
are check marked reflecting the changes in the image. You can
choose whether to apply the data in the list to the image.
Clear the check mark if you do not want to apply the data; select
the check mark and then press the OK button. The check mark
disappears.
If you want to readjust the color, select a color data box in the
list and press the OK button. The COLOR SELECTION window
appears and you can readjust the color. See below for color
selection.

COLOR SELECTION
Press the OK button when โCOLOR M.โ in the COLOR
MANAGEMENT LIST is selected. The COLOR MANAGEMENT
LIST disappears and the Color management pointer appears.
Use the Point ed 7 8 buttons to move the pointer to a
spot where you want to adjust the color and then press the
OK button. The image freezes and the COLOR SELECTION
window appears. (Note that when certain colors are chosen, an
exclamation mark is displayed indicating that these colors are not
adjustable.)
After adjusting COLOR LEVEL,
COLOR PHASE, and GAMMA,
press the OK button.
Use the Point ed buttons to select COLOR LEVEL, COLOR
PHASE, or GAMMA and the Point 7 8 buttons to adjust
them. While adjusting, the changes are reflected in the image
accordingly. If you press the MENU button while operating the
color selection, the Color management pointer will be reset.
Go to the COLOR MANAGEMENT LIST.
To store the adjusted data, exit
the Color management mode
and go to โStoreโ in the Image
adj. Menu (see page 33).
After adjusting, press the OK button to go to the COLOR
MANAGEMENT LIST.

Reset
To reset the adjusted data, select Reset and press the Point 8 or
OK buttons. A confirmation box appears. Select [Yes] and then
press the OK button. All adjustments return to their previous
figures. You can also reset the adjusted data by pressing the
RESET button on the remote control.
Store
To store the adjusted data, select Store and press the Point 8 or
OK buttons. The User Image Mode Menu appears. Use the Point
ed buttons to choose one of the five (5) user image modes and
press the Point 8 or OK buttons. A confirmation box appears.
Select [Yes] and then press the OK button.

To exit the User Image Mode Menu, go to the Quit icon and press

Picture Position and Screen Adjustment
Some input source employ special signal formats which may not be tuned by the auto-tuning system of this projector.
Picture Adjustment enables you to precisely adjust several parameters manually to match those signal formats. The
parameters manually adjusted is stored for every input.
Picture adj. Menu
Press the Point ed buttons to select the Picture adj. Menu
and press the Point 8 or OK buttons to access the submenu
items.

Overscan
Use the Point 7 8 buttons to adjust the overscan area. It works
only to decrease the overscanned portion of the screen (from 0 to
+10).

from the image displayed (from 0 to +31).

โข The adjusting range for the Horizontal and Vertical positions, and
Total dots differs depending on the input signal. When the video
signal format is 480i or 575i, the adjusting range for the Horizontal
position will be from -8 to +8.
โข The Auto adj. function cannot be operated with the video input,
some incompatible computer input and digital signals.
โข Fine sync andTotal dots cannot be operated with some
incompatible computer input and digital signals.
โข The Picture adj. Menu cannot be operated without an input signal.
โข When the adjustment exceeds the signal range of Horizontal and
Vertical positions, andTotal dots, the projected image may be
distorted.

uniformly. This function can be used to project a squeezed video
signal at the wide video aspect ratio of 16:9.
Zoom
Fit the image to the screen size (16:9 aspect ratio) by expanding
the width and height of the image uniformly.
With the input signals other than 1080p, 1080i or 720p, this
function is used to project a letterboxed picture (the 4:3 aspect
ratio picture with a black bar at the top and bottom) at the wide
video aspect ratio of 16:9.

When the input signal is 1080p, 1080i or 720p, a letterboxed
picture in a 16:9 screen can be projected by expanding at the wide
video aspect ratio of 16:9.
In the Zoom mode, you can also adjust the display range with
the vertical adj. function. See โVertical adj.โ on the next page for

Normal
Fit the image to the center of the screen at the normal video
aspect ratio of 4:3.
โNote:
Natural wide
โข When the video signal format is 480i, 575i,
480p, or 575p, the Screen Menu cannot be
selected except for Full, Zoom, Normal, Natural
wide.
โข When the video signal format is 1080p,
1080i, or 720p, the Screen Menu cannot be
selected except for Full, Zoom, Natural wide,
Anamorphic.
โข When Normal is selected with a computer input,
the image is projected at the inputted resolution.
โข This projector cannot display any resolution
higher than 1920 x 1080. If your computerโs
resolution is higher than that, lower the
resolution before connecting to the projector.
โข The image data other than the 1920 x 1080
resolution is modified to fit the screen size in
initial mode.
Modify the image to fit the screen size by stretching the image to
make it look natural.
When the video signal format is 480i, 575i, 480p, or 575p, the 4:3
aspect ratio image is modified to fit the screen size (16:9 aspect
ratio.)
When the video signal format is 1080p, 1080i, or 720p, the 4:3
aspect ratio image in 16:9 signals is modified to fit the screen size
(16:9 aspect ratio.)
Anamorphic
Modify the 2.35:1 aspect ratio image in 16:9 signals to fit the
screen size by stretching the image in a vertical direction. This
function can be selected only when 1080i, 1080p, or 720p signals
are selected.
In the Anamorphic mode, you can also adjust the display range
with the vertical adj. function. See โVertical adj.โ on the next page
for details.

Screen
Vertical adj.
When it is in the Zoom or Anamorphic mode, press the Point ed
buttons to display the Vertical adj. dialog box. Use the Point ed
buttons to adjust the vertical position. The adjusting range differs
depending on the input signal.
The adjusted value is only effective in the Zoom and Anamorphic
mode. When the Reset button is pressed while the Vertical adj.
dialog box is displayed, the adjusted value returns to 0.
The Vertical adj. dialog box cannot be displayed when the On-
Screen Menu is on.

Rename
This function is used to change the name of the Input or the User
image. Select Rename and press the Point 8 or OK buttons. The
Rename window appears. Use the Point ed buttons to choose
either Input or User image and then press the Point 8 or OK
buttons to display the rename item selection window.
Use the Point ed buttons to choose a desired item and press the
Point 8 button to display on-screen keyboard.

Select Rename and press the

โข Custom is blank and check mark cannot be placed when an item is
not renamed

Use the Point ed7 8 buttons to select a desired character or
function. Left-arrow key moves the cursor one position backward
or deletes the preceding character. Convert key converts between
uppercase and lowercase letters. The selected key will be framed
red. Press the OK button to execute your selection. Press the
RESET button to clear your entry.
To complete the naming entry, press the MENU button. The
confirmation dialog box appears. Select [Yes] and press the OK
button, then the custom name is registered. The rename item
selection window with a newly registered name under custom
field appears.

Capture
Capture
This function enables you to capture an image being projected to
use it for the starting-up display or interval of presentations.
Select Capture and press the Point 8 or OK buttons. The
confirmation box appears and select [Yes] to capture the projected
image. The captured image will be displayed the next time the
projector is turned on.
To cancel the Capture function, select [No].
Select [Yes] to capture
the projected image.
โNote:
โข A signal from a computer can be captured up to XGA (1024 x 768).
โข The image that has been adjusted in the Image adj. Menu will not
be reflected even if it is captured.
โข If the Capture function fails to capture an image or stops capturing
halfway, the On-Screen Menu returns to the Capture item.
โข The Capture function cannot be operated with unsupported
signals.
โข When starting to capture a new image, the previously stored
image is cleared even if you cancel the capturing.

Power management
Power management
For reducing power consumption as well as maintaining the lamp
life, the Power management function turns off the projection lamp
when the projector is not used for a certain period.
When this function is โOnโ and if the input signal is interrupted
and no button is pressed for more than 30 seconds, the timer
display with โNo signalโ appears on the screen. It starts the
countdown until the lamp is turned off. The countdown time is set
to five (5) minutes.
When the countdown time has elapsed, the lamp is turned off to
cool itself down. The POWER indicator is blinking red during the
cooling-off period. When the lamp has been fully cooled down,
the POWER indicator changes to green blinking. In this condition,
the projection lamp can be turned on when the input signal is
reconnected or any button on the top control or remote control is
pressed.

Remote control
Two different remote control codes are assigned to this projector:
the factory-set code (Code 1) and the secondary code (Code 2).
This switching function prevents interference from other remote
controls when several projectors or video equipment next to each
other are used at the same time.
When operating the projector in Code 2, the code for both the
projector and the remote control must be switched to Code 2.
To change the code of the projector:
Press the Point 8 or OK buttons to switch between Code 1 and
Code 2.
To change the code of the remote control:
Press and hold both the MENU and IMAGE ADJ. button on the
remote control for more than 5 seconds to switch between Code
1 and Code 2.
After changing the code, make sure the remote control operates
properly.
โNote:
โข When the batteries of the remote control are replaced, the remote
control code automatically returns to the initial code (Code 1).
Shutter demo
Shutter demo
Press the Point 8 or OK buttons to start Shutter demo. The
automatic slide shutter closes once with the lamp being turned on
and opens up again. This is used for checking the operation of the
automatic slide shutter.
โNote:
โข The Shutter demo function cannot be operated continuously.
Once you started, it cannot be selected again for about five
seconds.

Test pattern
Filter counter
A test pattern for zoom and focus adjustment is available for use
when setting up the projector.
Filter counter
This function is used to set a frequency for the filter cleaning.
When the projector reached a specified time between cleanings, a
Filter warning icon appears on the screen, notifying the cleaning is
necessary.
Use the Point 8 button to select the desired timer [Off/ 50H/ 100H/
200H/ 300H/ 400H/ 500H] and press the OK button. After cleaning
the filter, be sure to select [Reset] and set the timer. The Filter
warning icon will not turn off until the filter counter is reset.

Cleaning
This function is used to clean the inside of the projector. Using a
blower at the same time is more effective. See page 46.
Filter warning icon appears on the screen at a set
time.
Press the Point 8 or OK buttons, then the projected image is
blacked out temporarily regardless of whether or not an input
source is selected.

โข The Filter warning icon will not appear when
the Display function is set to โOffโ (p.40), during
โFreezeโ (p.23), โNo showโ (p.23), โColor
managementโ (p.32), โTest patternโ (p.42),
โRenameโ (p.39), โCustom gammaโ (p.31), or
โCleaningโ (p.42).
To cancel the cleaning function, set the projector back into
the right position, then press any other button during cleaning
operations.
โNote:
โข The Power management function cannot be operated during
cleaning.
Fan control
Choose the running speed of cooling fans from the following
options according to the environment, where there is a drastic
elevation of room temperature while the projector is being used.
Normal....... Normal speed.
Factory default
Mode 1...... Faster than Normal mode. Use this mode when you
want to increase the cooling effect when operating
the projector in the environment, where there is a
drastic elevation of room temperature.
Mode 2...... Faster than Mode 1 mode. Use this mode when you
want to increase the cooling effect when operating
the projector in the environment, where there is a
more drastic elevation of room temperature.
โNote:
โข Fan noise becomes louder in Mode 1 and Mode 2.

This function resets the lamp replacement counter. When

Warning Indicator
The WARNING indicator shows the state of the function that protects the projector. Check the state of the WARNING
indicator and the POWER indicator to take proper maintenance.
The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator is blinking red.
When the temperature inside the projector reaches a certain level,
the projector is automatically shut down to protect its inside. The
POWER indicator is blinking while the projector is being cooled
down. When the projector has cooled down sufficiently (to its
normal operating temperature), it can be turned on again by
pressing the POWER ON/STAND-BY button.

โข The WARNING indicator continues to blink even after the
temperature inside the projector returns to normal. When the
projector is turned on again, the WARNING indicator stops
blinking.

slots are not blocked.

When the projector detects an abnormal condition, it is
automatically shut down to protect the inside of the projector

AC power cord and plug it, and then turn on the projector once
again to verify operation. If the projector cannot be turned on and
the WARNING indicator lights red, unplug the AC power cord and
contact the service station.

Cleaning the RGB panels
Blemishes such as dust and dirt on the internal optical components of the projector tend to degrade the brightness of the
screen and are likely to appear as a shadow on the screen, which can lead to deterioration of image quality.
This projector has the RGB panel cleaning holes on the underside for cleaning of the internal parts (such as optical
components) of the projector. When you use the projector for a lengthy period of time or a shadow of dust appears on the
projected screen, clean the inside of the projector.
Using the supplied air blower and with the Cleaning function in the Setting Menu (p.42), you can remove the dusts from the
projector.
โNote:
โข Dust might not be removed completely with these steps.Then contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or service
center.
CAUTION IN USINGTHE AIR BLOWER ANDTHE NOZZLE
โ Turn the projector over when using the blower.
โ Use only the supplied air blower and nozzle to keep the projector from being out of order or
damaged. We could not guarantee the malfunction or breakage caused by other tools.
โ Never use a commercially available compressed air duster. It causes the interior of the projector to
malfunction with release of cold liquid propellant.
CAUTION
โ Put the projector on a soft cloth to prevent scratching the surface.
โ Open the hole cover only when you clean the inside of the projector.
โ Do not look into the holes. A strong light could damage your eyes. (Do not look into the Air intake
vent and Exhaust vent, too.)
PROHIBITED
โ Use the blower and nozzle only to clean the projector. Do not attempt to use them for other
purposes. Do not use the blower and nozzle against persons (particularly to eyes, mouth, or ears).
Be especially careful to ensure that children do not put the blower and nozzle into their mouth and
swallow them.
โ Do not attempt to pull the nozzle out of the blower. If the nozzle happened to be pulled out, put it
back into the blower immediately.
โ Do not use the blower supplied with this projector (model: 1080HD) to clean the other models: Z3
and Z1X.
If something is wrong with the projector (such as smoke, a strange sound, or an abnormal odor) while you are
cleaning, turn off and unplug the projector immediately, then call the dealer where you purchased the projector or
service center.

Cleaning the Air Filter
The air filter prevents dust from accumulating on the surface of the optical elements inside the projector. Should the air filter
becomes clogged with dust particles, it will reduce cooling fanโs effectiveness and may result in a buildup of internal heat
and adversely affect the life of the projector. Clean the air filter by following the steps below.
Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning.

Press the latch and release it. Take off the filter cover.

Pull out the air filter.
When taking out the air filter, put your fingers on the air
filterโs tabs and pull. Do not try to pull the delicate filter part.

Remove dust and dirt with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.
Be careful not to damage the air filter and do not clean it
with water.

When the air filter gets dusty and dirty, replace it with a new
one. For ordering the replacement filter, contact your sales
dealer.

We recommend avoiding dusty/smoky environments when
operating the projector. Usage in these environment may
cause a poor image quality.
When using the projector under dusty or smoky conditions, dust
may accumulate on a lens, LCD panels, or optical elements inside
the projector degrading the quality of a projected image.
When the symptoms above are noticed, contact your authorized
dealer or service station for proper cleaning.
CAUTION
Do not operate the projector with the air filters
removed. Dust may accumulate on the optical
elements degrading picture quality. Do not put
anything into the air intake vents. Otherwise it may
result in malfunction of the projector.

Cleaning the Projection Lens
Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning.
Gently wipe the projection lens with a cleaning cloth that contains
a small amount of non-abrasive camera lens cleaner, or use a
lens cleaning paper or a commercially available air blower to clean
the lens. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive
cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the
surface of the lens.
When the projector is not in use, make sure that the automatic
slide shutter is closed.
Cleaning the Projector Cabinet
Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning.
Gently wipe the projector body with a dry soft cloth. When the
cabinet is heavily soiled, apply a small amount of mild detergent
and finish with a dry soft cloth. Avoid using an excessive amount
of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals
might scratch the surface of the cabinet.
When the projector is not in use, put it in an appropriate carrying
case to protect it from dust and scratches.

Lamp Replacement
When the projection lamp of this projector reaches its end of life,
the LAMP REPLACE indicator emits yellow light. If this indicator
lights yellow, replace the lamp with a new one promptly.
The time when the LAMP REPLACE indicator should light is
depending on the lamp mode.

CAUTION
Allow the projector to cool, for at least 45 minutes
before you open the lamp cover. The inside of the
projector can become very hot.
CAUTION
For continued safety, replace the lamp with the same
type lamp. Do not drop the lamp or touch the glass
bulb!The glass can shatter and may cause injury.

Follow these steps to replace the lamp.
Turn off the projector and unplug the AC power cord. Let the
projector cool for at least 45 minutes.

Loosen the screw that secures the lamp cover, and then
open the lamp cover.

Loosen the two (2) screws that secure the lamp. Pull out the
lamp by using the built in handle.

Replace the lamp with a new one and secure it with the two
(2) screws. Make sure that the lamp is set properly. Put the
lamp cover back and secure it with the screw.

LAMP HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result
in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard.
โ Lamp lifetime may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no guarantee of the
same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their lifetime in a shorter period of time than other
similar lamps.
โ If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights up, replace
the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down.
(Follow carefully the instructions in the Lamp Replacement section of this manual.) Continuous use of the lamp
with the LAMP REPLACE indicator lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion.
โ A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its lifetime draws
to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp
are being used.
IF A LAMP EXPLODES,THE FOLLOWING SAFETy PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BETAKEN.
If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projectorโs AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service
station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no
broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken
shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are
authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit
by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by
pieces of broken glass.

Before calling your dealer or service center for assistance, check the items below once again.
โ Make sure you have properly connected the projector to peripheral equipment as described in โConnecting to Video

โ Make sure all equipment is connected to an AC outlet and the power is turned on.
โ When you operate the projector with a computer and it does not project an image, restart the computer.
