Handling the unit
The main unit is a high-tech, precision device. If the optical pick-
up lens and disc drive parts are dirty or worn, the picture quality
will be poor.
Regular inspection and maintenance are recommended after
every 1,000 hours of use. (This depends on the operating
environment.)
When shipping the unit
The original shipping carton and packing materials come in
handy. For maximum protection, re-pack the unit as it was
originally packaged at the factory.
When setting up the unit
For details, please contact your nearest dealer.
The picture and sound of a nearby TV, VCR, or radio may be
distorted during playback. In this case, position the unit away
from the TV, VCR, or radio, or turn off the unit after removing the
disc.
CAUTION:
The main unit and powered subwoofer must be placed in a well
ventilated area.
Do not place any object on the top of the unit.
Do not block ventilation holes.
The cabinet of the unit warms up when it is used for a long time,
but it is not a malfunction.
To keep the surface clean
Do not use volatile liquids, such as insecticide spray, near the
unit. Do not leave rubber or plastic products in contact with the
unit for a long period of time. They will leave marks on the
surface.
WHAT TO DO IF...
Cleaning the unit
To clean the cabinet
Use a clean soft cloth moistened with plain lukewarm water and
wrung dry. Never use benzol, benzene or other strong chemical
cleaners since these could damage the finish of your unit. It is
important that no liquid reaches the inside of the unit.
If the operation of the unit or display is not normal, even
though the appropriate buttons have been pressed.
Unplug the unit from the wall outlet, wait a few minutes, and
plug it back in.

Basic TV Connections
Audio/Video Connection
After you have connected the antenna to the main unit, you must
connect the main unit to the TV.
1. Connect the DVD/VCR OUTPUT VIDEO jack on the main
unit to the video input jack on the TV using the video cable
supplied.
Below are 3 common methods of connecting your main unit to a
TV. Find the type of TV you are using and follow the connection
diagram.
This main unit has a single 75 ohm output for connection to a TV.
If your TV has separate VHF and UHF antenna inputs (Examples
2 and 3 below), use a splitter to connect the main unit to the TV
for VHF and UHF reception.
2. If you use your TVs speaker, connect the DVD/VCR OUTPUT
AUDIO L/R jacks on the main unit to the audio left/right input
jacks on the TV using an audio cables (not supplied).

IMPORTANT:
CATV (CABLE TV) Connections
Make sure the TV/CATV menu option is set to the CATVmode.
This unit cannot receive scrambled programs since it does not
contain a descrambler. In order to receive scrambled programs,
your existing descrambler must be used. Descrambler boxes are
available from cable companies. Consult your local cable company
for more information concerning connection to their descrambler
equipment. There are many ways to connect your unit to a cable
system. Below are six common methods of connection.
Many cable companies offer services permitting reception of
extra channels including pay or subscription channels. The main
unit has an extended tuning range and can be tuned to most
cable channels without using a cable company supplied converter
box, except for those channels which are intentionally scrambled.
If you subscribe to a special channel which is scrambled, you
must have a descrambler box for proper reception.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING:
FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY, BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE AC POWER CORD BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY
MAINTENANCE OR CLEANING.
Cleaning the Cabinet
Use a clean soft cloth moistened with plain lukewarm water and wrung dry. Never use benzol, benzene or other strong chemical
cleaners since these could damage the finish of your unit. It is important that no liquid reaches the inside of the unit.
Video Head Cleaning
Video head clogging
The video heads are the means by which the unit reads the picture from the tape during playback. In the unlikely event that the heads
become dirty enough to be clogged, no picture will be played back. This can easily be determined if, during playback of a known good
tape, there is good sound, but no picture (picture is extremely snowy). If this is the case, use a high quality head cleaning system or
have them cleaned professionally.
Good Picture
Snowy Picture
Video head cleanning
Video head cleaning is needed when the playback picture becomes unclear. This signifies that the heads are getting dirty and can occur
when playing poor quality or damaged tapes. If the heads require cleaning, use a equivalent high quality chemical non-abrasive (wet)
head cleaning tape or have them cleaned professionally. If playing a head cleaning tape in the unit once does not improve the picture,
play it several times before requesting service.
Notes:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE VIDEO HEADS OR SERVICE THE UNIT BY REMOVING THE TOP COVER.
Video heads may eventually wear out and should be replaced when they fail to produce clear pictures.
To help prevent video head clogging, use only good quality VHS tapes. Discard worn out tapes.
