When using this unit, basic safety  
precautions should always be followed to  
reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or

3. Unplug this unit from power outlets  
before cleaning. Do not use liquid or  
aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for

1 Open the cover by pressing the

the recording paper roll.

To use the fax machine with a computer on the same line  
L We recommend you use separate wall jacks for the fax machine and the computer.  
L Set the fax machine to TEL mode (page 46).  
L The device which has the shortest ring setting will answer the call first.  
L If the computer provides a port for a telephone line, connect the fax machine to this port on  
the computer.

L When the power cord is connected,  
every time you close the cover a  
message will be printed. If the recording  
paper is set to the wrong side, a  
massage will not be printed. Install the  
paper correctly.

Recording paper jam  
If the unit does not eject any recording  
paper during fax reception or copying, the  
recording paper has jammed. Remove the  
jammed paper.  
L Make sure that there is no slack in  
the paper roll.  
L If the paper cannot be inserted, try  
lifting the green lever again.

Open the cover by pressing the cover  
open button. Lift the green lever to  
release the paper cutter, and remove  
the recording paper roll.

Close the cover securely by pushing  
down on both sides.

Press {FAX/START}.  
L The unit will eject the paper slightly  
and cut it.

Cut off the wrinkled portion, and  
replace the recording paper roll into the  
unit in the proper direction.  
L If you do not press {FAX/START}  
within 30 seconds, the unit will  
automatically eject the paper slightly  
and cut it.  
L Every time you close the cover a  
message will be printed. If the  
recording paper is set to the wrong  
side, a message will not be printed.  
Install the paper correctly.  
Insert the leading edge of the paper  
into the opening above the thermal  
head, and pull the paper out of the unit.

Document feeder  
Clean the document feeder in the following  
cases:  
If misfeeding of the document occurs  
frequently.  
If dirty patterns or black/white bands  
appear on the original document when  
transmitting or copying.

Clean the document feeder rollers and  
rubber flap with a cloth moistened with  
isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and let all  
parts dry thoroughly.

check whether there is dust on the thermal  
head and head cover. Clean them to  
remove the dust.
