STEP 1 Connection to a television
≥Do not place the unit on amplifiers or equipment that may become hot. The heat can damage the unit.
≥Do not connect through the video cassette recorder. Due to copy guard protection, the picture may not display properly.
≥Turn off all equipment before connection and read the appropriate operating instructions.

STEP 2 The remote control
≥ Insert so the poles (i and j) match those in the
remote control.
≥ Do not use rechargeable type batteries.
Mishandling of batteries can cause electrolyte
leakage which can damage items the fluid contacts
and may cause a fire.

∫ Standby/on switch (Í/I)
≥Discs continue to rotate while menus are displayed. Press [∫] when you
finish to preserve the unit’s motor and your television screen.
Press to switch the unit from on to standby mode or vice versa. In
standby mode, the unit is still consuming a small amount of power.
Standby/on indicator (Í)
When the unit is connected to the AC mains supply, this indicator
lights up in standby mode and goes out when the unit is turned on.

Exchanging the discs in the play position

The drawer opens and the disc in the play position comes to the front-

Dolby Pro Logic II
(Main unit)
Dolby Pro Logic II is an advanced decoder that derives 5 channel
surround (Left and Right Front, Center, Left and Right Surround) from any
stereo program material, whether or not it has been specifically Dolby
Surround encoded.

You can enjoy higher quality audio by stopping the video output.
≥HighMAT menus and Video CD playback control are disabled.
≥You cannot change the mode during program or random play.
≥CD Mode turns off when you switch the unit to standby.

≥AUDIO ONLY is canceled if you press [AUDIO ONLY] again or switch the
unit to standby.
≥There is output to the screen only when:
—the disc is stopped.
—performing operations such as searching.
—on screen display is displayed.
The above indicated features may not work depending on the discs
recording.

sessions it takes more time for play to start. Keep the number of

Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not
solve the problem, see “Product information” on page 17 for assistance.
