ACTIVE RECEPTION (A.R.) (KTF-3010 only)
When the receiving frequency changes by a tuning operation or recalling a preset station, the
tuner autom atically sw itches the IF BAND, RF ATT and ANT A/ B functions to obtain the optim um
reception conditions for the signals being received.
RDS (Radio Data System) & EON(Enhanced Other Network) reservation
The RDS m akes it possible to select stations according to their program types (PTY search) and to
display the station nam es.
Moreover, the RDS autom atic m em ory function w hich stores up to 40 RDS stations autom atically
in the m em ory is featured. This function checks the RDS data w hen storing stations in the m em ory
to avoid storing stations w hich are broadcasting the sam e program sim ultaneously.
In addition, by using the EON function w hich adm inisters the inform ation of other stations, you
can reserve the desired inform ation such as traffic announcem ent, new s and so on, even though
these types of program s are not currently broadcast. While listening to a station w hich m akes the
EON indicator light, the tuner autom atically selects the station w hich starts broadcasting the
program of the desired inform ation. When the program of the desired inform ation ends, the tuner
autom atically returns to the previous program .
If this tuner is connected to a KENWOOD am plifier w ith the system control cord, the am plifier
autom atically sw itches the input source to the tuner input w hen the program of the reserved
inform ation starts, even w hen you are listening to the input source other than the tuner.
STATION PRESET
This unit features a function w hich stores the broadcast station you are listening to w ith easy
operations and allow s you to store a nam e for the station.
It is very convenient to register the desired stations. Also, you can recall the stations w ith easy
operations.

Malfunction of microcomputer
When connecting the related system com ponents, refer also
to the instruction m anuals of the related com ponents.
Do not plug in the pow er lead until all connections are com -
pleted.
If operation is not possible or erroneous display ap-
pears even though all connections have been m ade
properly, rest the m icrocom puter referring to "In case
of difficulty".

Caution regarding placement
To maintain proper ventilation, be sure to leave a space around the
unit (from the largest outer dimensions including projections) equal
to, or greater than, shown below.

The system control connection
Connecting system control cords after connecting a Kenw ood audio com ponent system lets you take advantage of convenient system
control operations.
There are tw o Kenw ood system control m odes. Make connections according to the groups of term inal sym bols show n below.
[SL16] Mode : for
term inals only
[XS8] Mode : lets you com bine F, f, and ƒ term inals
This unit is com patible w ith both [SL16] and [XS8] m odes. It com es from the factory set to the [SL16] m ode. To sw itch to the [XS8] m ode,
follow the instructions in “Sw itching from [SL16] to [XS8]”.
1. [SL16] equipment cannot be combined with [XR], [XS], and [XS8] equipment for system
operations. If your equipment consists of this kind of combination, please do not connect
any system control cords. Even without system control cords, normal operations can be

carried out without affecting performance.
2. If your amp or receiver does not have a system control terminal, do not connect any
system control cords to the system control terminals on the other components.
3. Do not connect system control cords to any components other than those specified by
Kenwood. It may cause a malfunction and damage your equipment.
4. Be sure the system control plugs are inserted all the way in to the system control termi-
nals.
1.Connect all cords firmly. If connections are loose, you may lose the sound or interconnectable system control operations may not work.
2.When plugging and unplugging connection cord, be sure to first remove the power cord from the AC outlet. Plugging / unplugging
connection cords without removal of the power cord can cause malfunctions or damage to the unit.

The system control operations
Rem ote Control
Lets you operate this unit w ith the system rem ote supplied w ith the am p or receiver.
Autom atic Operation (except [XR] equipm ent)
Autom atically sw itches the input selector on the am p w hen you operate one of the tuning keys on this unit.
Autom atic EON reception
Even if the input selector on the am p is set to a source other than tuner, the am p w ill autom atically sw itch to tuner w hen an EON
broadcast you are w aiting for is received. When using equipm ent connected in the [SL16] m ode, the am p w ill sw itch back to the
original input source w hen EON broadcast has finished.

Switching from [SL16] to [XS8]
Use the rear panel sw itch to sw itch to the system control [XS8] and [SL16] m odes. Do this operation
after com pleting all connections.

÷ Remove the AC power cord plug from the wall outlet before switching modes.
÷ This operation will not affect items stored in the memory.

FM outdoor antenna
connection
Lead the 75 Ω coaxial cable connected to
the FM outdoor antenna into the room and
connect it to the FM 75 Ω terminal.
Use a commercially
available antenna
adaptor.
FM indoor antenna connection
The accessory antenna is for temporary indoor use only.
For stable signal reception we recommend using an
outdoor antenna. Remove the indoor antenna if you
connect one outdoors.

AM loop antenna connection
The supplied antenna is for indoor use. Place it as far as possible
from the main system, TV set, speaker cords and power cord,
and set it to a direction which provides the best reception.
In certain areas, FM broadcast can be received by connecting the antenna cable to a wall antenna terminal (CATV antenna socket, etc.).

STANDBY mode of POWER switch
When the power cord of this unit is plugged into an AC outlet, the STANDBY indicator lights up while the power is off. This indicates that a small amount
of current is being supplied to the unit to back up the memory contents even when the power is turned off.

Each tim e the key is pressed, the operation m ode changes.

When you press the ACTIVE RECEPTION key, the AR indicator
flashes, and the tuner w ill autom atically sw itch the IF BAND, RF
ATT and ANT A/ B functions to select the best conditions for recep-
tion. If, at this tim e, you change the receiving frequency by adjust-
ing the tuning UP/ DOWN or calling up preset broadcast stations,
you w ill alw ays achieve optim um broadcast w ave reception.
Norm ally leave the ACTIVE RECEPTION m ode ON.

By pressing this key, the autom atic stereo function and the auto-
m atic tuning function are both sw itched over at the sam e tim e
w hen AUTO STEREO or HIGH BLEND (available w ith KTF-3010 only)
is selected.
The tuner autom atically sw itches betw een stereo and m onaural
receptions according to the program being received.
The tuner autom atically scans the frequency and stops w hen a
station is tuned in.

tion can not pick up, select the m anual tuning m ode.

RDS (Radio Data System)

RDS is a system w hich transm its useful inform ation (digital data) for FM broadcasts together w ith the broadcast signal. Tuners and receivers
designed for RDS reception can extract the inform ation from the broadcast signal for use w ith various functions such as autom atic display of
the station nam e.

PS (Program Service Nam e) Display: (See below.)
When an RDS broadcast is received, the station name is automati-
cally displayed.

Some RDS stations transmit clock data along with the broadcast sig-
nal.
RT, PS, and CT can be selected with the DISPLAY key. The display
may not light, depending on the RDS broadcast station.

AUTO MEMORY (Storing stations automatically in memory )
The AUTO MEMORY function autom atically calls up only those stations w hich have RDS broadcasts for storing
(up to 40 stations can be stored).
The tuner com pletes the scanning of frequencies in 5 m inutes.
While scanning, "AUTO" and "MEMORY" are displayed in turn.
1 Sw itch to FM band.
2 Press and hold the MEMORY key (for m ore than 2 seconds).
÷ Unless stations are stored with the automatic memory function, EON
reservation and PTY search will not work.
÷ AR will not work when the automatic memory function is on.
÷ Broadcast stations stored manually may be overwritten.
÷ Stations already stored in the preset memory may be replaced by RDS
stations. (i.e., If the RDS AUTO MEMORY function finds 15 RDS sta-
tions, the stations currently preset at numbers 01- 15 are replaced by
the RDS stations.)

÷ If the antenna is replaced, you will have to reset the automatic memory
function.
÷ Stored stations may be erased from the memory.

EON reservation
KTF-3 0 1 0 / KTF-2 0 1 0 (En)
By using the EON function w hich adm inisters the inform ation of other
stations, you can reserve the desired inform ation such as traffic an-
nouncem ent, new s and so on, even though these types of program s
are not currently broadcast. While listening to a station w hich m akes
the EON indicator light, the tuner autom atically selects the station
w hich starts broadcasting the program of the desired inform ation.
When the program of the desired inform ation ends, the tuner auto-
m atically returns to the previous program .

÷ Even if you switch over the input selector of the amplifier connected
with the system control cord while receiving the broadcast of your
choice, EON reservation will not be cancelled.
÷ When a EON reservation broadcast is received, the ACTIVE RECEP-
TION will not work. RF ATT functions will be turned OFF.
TP (Traffic Program) indication
When the "TP" indicator is lit, this m eans that the presently received station or a station in the sam e netw ork is transm itting traffic
inform ation. When "TP" is displayed for the station being received, the traffic inform ation of this station can be received w ithout EON
reservation.

Even if the input selector of the am plifier is connected to the source other than the tuner, the input selector of the am plifier sw itches to the
tuner w hen the desired program starts in the EON reservation m ode.
Com bined w ith the [SL16], the input selector returns to the original source after the desired program finishes, how ever, w ith a [XS8] it w ill not.
In case of difficulty
What appears to be a m alfunction m ay not alw ays be serious. If your unit should not perform as expected, consult the table below to see if the
problem can be corrected before seeking help from your dealer or service representative.
