MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS
You need an RJ 11(CA11A) type m odular jack, which is the
m ost com m on type of phone jack and m ight look like the one
pictured here. If you don’t have a m odular jack, call your local
phone com pany to find out how to get one installed.
INSTALLATION NOTE: Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies
that may cause interference to nearby TVs and VCRs. To minimize or prevent
such interference, the base of the cordless telephone should not be placed
near or on top of a TV or VCR. If interference continues, moving the cordless
telephone farther away from the TV or VCR will often reduce or eliminate the
interference.

PULSE/ TONE switch
1. Plug the telephone line cord into the base and into a m odular jack.
2. Plug the power supply cord into the base, into an AC outlet.
3. Set the PULSE/TONE switch to TONE for touch-tone service, or PULSE
for rotary service. If you don’t know which type of service you have,
check with the phone com pany.
4. Raise the base antenna.
5. Turn on the RINGER switch so the
handset rings for incom ing calls.

WALL MOUNT INSTALLATION
1. Install the base plate by putting
the tabs into the slots on the top
of the unit first, and then snapping
the bottom tabs into place.

2. Plug one end of the short tele-
phone line cord into the jack
m arked PHONE LINE on the back
of the unit, and plug the other end
into a m odular wall jack.

3. Connect the power supply adapter
to the POWER 9V DC jack on the
back of the unit, and plug it into an
AC outlet.

4. Slip the m ounting holes over the
wall plate posts and slide the unit
down firm ly into place. (Wall plate
not included.)
5. Set the TONE/PULSE switch to
TONE if you have touch-tone
service or to PULSE if you have
rotary dial service.

6. Turn on the RINGER switch so the
handset rings for incom ing calls.

7. Place handset in the base to
charge for 12 hours. The CHARGE/

CORDLESS PHONE BASICS
MAKING A CALL
The only two things you need to know to m ake a call are:
•
•
Press the PHONE button before you dial.
Press PHONE button or place the handset in the base to hang up.
Otherwise, it works just like any other phone.
CAUTION: Because cordless phones operate on electricity, you should have at
least one phone in your home that isn’t cordless, in case the power in your
home goes out.

PHONE-IN-USE LIGHT
You know the phone is on when you see the
Phone-in-Use light on the handset com e on.

REDIAL
Press the REDIAL button to redial the last num ber you called. If you get a
busy signal, and want to keep dialing the num ber, just press REDIAL again
(you don’t have to turn the phone off and back on).
RECEIVING A CALL
To answer a call you m ust press the PHONE button on the handset before
you can talk.

FLASH BUTTON
Use the FLASH button to activate custom er calling services such as call
waiting or call transfer, which are available through your local phone
com pany.
TIP: Don't use the PHONE button to activate customer calling services such
as call waiting, or you’ll hang up the phone.

The RINGER switch m ust be ON for the handset
to ring during incom ing calls (or when paging the
handset).

PAGING THE HANDSET
Press the PAGE/FIND button on the base to
locate a m isplaced handset or to get the
attention of a person near the handset.
Pressing the PAGE/FIND button for 2 seconds
enables the handset to signal for 15 seconds,
or until you find the handset and press the
PHONE button. Rem em ber that the RINGER
switch m ust be ON for the handset to ring.
The Page/Find feature only works when the
PHONE button is off.

channel in order get rid of static. Press and release the
CHANNEL button to advance to the next clear channel.

Store up to 10 num bers in m em ory for quick dialing.
STORING A NUMBER IN MEMORY
The phone m ust be OFF when you store num bers.
1. Press the MEMORY button.
2. Dial the num ber (up to 16 digits).
3. Press MEMORY and then press a num ber key (0-9) to
store the dialed num ber in that m em ory location.
4. Record whose num ber is stored in the location on the
m em ory directory card on the back of the handset.

INSERTING A PAUSE IN THE DIALING SEQUENCE

Press the FLASH button to insert a delay in the dialing
sequence of a stored telephone num ber when a pause is
needed to wait for a dial tone (for exam ple, after you dial
9 for an outside line or when you need to wait for a com -
puter access tone). Each pause counts as 1 digit.

CHANGING A STORED NUMBER
Use the sam e procedure to change a stored num ber as you do to store a
num ber—in a sense, you’re just reassigning the m em ory location.
DIALING A STORED NUMBER
1. Make sure the phone is ON.
2. Press MEMORY, and then press the num ber for that m em ory location.
CAUTION: If you make test calls to emergency numbers stored in memory, remain on
the line and briefly explain the reason for the call to the dispatcher. It’s a good idea to
make these calls in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.

CHAIN DIALING FROM MEMORY
Use this feature to m ake calls which require a sequence of num bers, for
instance if you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance
num ber. Basically, you dial each part of the sequence from m em ory.
The following exam ple shows how you can use chain dialing to m ake a
call through a long distance service:

1. Make sure the phone is ON.
2. Press MEMORY and then press 7.
3. When you hear the access tone, press MEMORY and then press 8.
4. At the next access tone, press MEMORY and then 9.
TIP: Wait for the access tones before pressing the next memory button, or
your call might not go through.
TEMPORARY TONE
This feature enables Pulse (rotary) service phone users to access touch-
tone services offered by banks, credit card com panies, etc. by pressing the
TONE button to tem porarily m ake the phone touch-tone com patible. To get
inform ation about your bank account, for exam ple, you would:
1. Call the bank’s inform ation line.
2. Press the TONE button(
) after your call is answered.

3. Follow the voice instructions to com plete your transaction.
4. Hang up when finished. The phone returns to Pulse (rotary) service.

CHANGING THE BATTERY
The handset runs on a consum er-replaceable nickel cadm ium battery pack.
If you experience any of the following problem s, you m ay need to replace
the battery pack:

BATTERY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
For your safety, please follow these sim ple precautions:
•
Do not recharge, disassem ble, m utilate, puncture, wet or dispose of
Battery in fire. Like other batteries of this type, if it is burned or punc-
tured, it could release toxic m aterial which could caused cause injury.

Keep Battery out of reach of children.
Replace only with GE Cat. #BT-12. You m ay find GE replacem ent
batteries at the local GE parts supplier listed in your yellow pages. If you
are unable to find the item locally, call 1-800-522-0338 (English) or
1-800-522-0445 (French) to obtain inform ation on where to locate a GE
parts supplier.
GENERAL PRODUCT CARE
To keep your telephone working and looking good, follow these
guidelines:
•
Avoid putting the phone near heating appliances and devices that
generate electrical noise (for exam ple, m otors or fluorescent lam ps).
•

DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or m oisture.
Avoid dropping the handset, as well as other rough treatm ent to
the phone.
•
•
Clean the phone with a soft cloth.
Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will
dam age the finish.
•
•
Retain the original packaging in case you need to ship the phone at a
later date.
Periodically clean the charge contacts on the handset and base with a
soft cloth.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
In case of difficulty, please check the following Troubleshooting Guide
before seeking service.
Problem

No dial tone
• Check installation:
— Is the base power cord connected to a working
outlet?
— Is the Phone-in-Use light on?
— Is the telephone line cord connected to the base
unit and the wall jack?
• Disconnect the base from the wall jack and connect
another phone to the sam e jack. If there is no dial tone
in the second phone, the problem m ight be your
wiring or local service.
• Is the handset out of range of the base?
• Make sure the battery is properly charged (12 hours).
• Is the battery pack installed correctly? See page 8.
• Did the handset beep when you pressed the phone
button? Did the Phone-in-Use light com e on? The
battery m ay need to be charged.
• Reset the security code by placing the handset in the
base for about 20 seconds.

• Make sure the TONE/PULSE switch on the base is
correctly set (see p. 3).
Handset does not ring
• Make sure the RINGER switch on the handset is
turned to ON.
• You m ay have too m any extension phones on your
line. Try unplugging som e phones.
• See solutions for “No dial tone.”
You experience static,
noise, or fading in
and out
• Change channels.
• Is handset out of range? Move closer to the base.
• Does the base need to be relocated?
• Charge battery.
• Make sure base is not plugged into an outlet with
another household appliance.
Unit beeps
• Place handset in base for 20 seconds to reset the
security code. If that doesn’t work, charge battery for
12 hours.
• Clean charging contacts on handset and base with a
soft cloth, or an eraser.
• See solutions for “No dial tone.”
• Replace battery.
Mem ory Dialing
• Did you program the m em ory location keys correctly?
See p. 7.
• Did you follow proper dialing sequence? See pp. 7-8.
• Make sure TONE/PULSE switch is correctly set.

INTERFERENCE INFORMATION
This equipm ent generates and uses radio frequency energy which m ay interfere

Should your equipm ent cause trouble on your line which m ay harm the telephone
network, the telephone com pany, where practicable, m ay notify you that tem porary

LOAD NUMBER
The Load Num ber (LN) assigned to each term inal device denotes the percentage
of the total load to be connected to a telephone loop which is used by the device,
to prevent overloading. The term ination on a loop m ay consist of any com bina-
tion of devices subject only to the requirem ent that the total of the Load Num bers
of all the devices does not exceed 100.
