Preparing to Brew
A Inserting the Charcoal water filter
Your appliance is supplied with two charcoal water filters. Before using your coffeemaker, we highly recom-
mend that you insert one to remove impurities from your water, improving water quality and ultimately the
flavour of your coffee.
ß Remove the filter from its packaging and soak in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
ß Lift the lid of the coffee maker and you will find the charcoal water filter holder located at the back on the
left of your appliance. To remove, simply lift it up and out from its compartment.
ß Holding the stem of the water filter holder in one hand use your other hand to gently press the filter holder
door down and pull outwards to flip open.
ß Place the filter in the holder and close the compartment cover;you will hear a snap indicating filter is in place.
N.B. Caution must be used when inserting the charcoal filter. Improper placement in the holder can cause
tearing of the filter skin.
ß Hold the filter under cold running tap water for 10 seconds to flush. Hold the water filter holder horizon-
tally, directly under the water stream so that the water flows through the filter compartment.
ß Allow the filter to drain completely.
ß Replace the water filter holder to its compartment in the coffeemaker, pushing it all the way down to the
base of the unit.
11
Download from Www.Somanuals.com. All Manuals Search And Download.
N.B. We strongly recommended that the water filter is replaced after 90 days or 90 uses; more often if you
have hard water. Failure to do so can lead to a build-up of limescale and affect the performance of your ap-
pliance. Replacement filters can be purchased directly from the manufacturer, (refer to UK After Sales
section for further details).
B Adding theWater and Ground Coffee
Before making coffee for the first time, we recommend operating the appliance once, using only water, to
remove any dust or residue that may remain in the system from the manufacturing process.
1. Fill the water reservoir
ß Open the lid of the Brew Central, the water reservoir is located at the back right of the machine.
ß Pour the desired amount of fresh cold water into the reservoir using the step water level indicator, located
at the rear of the reservoir.
2.Add the ground coffee
ß Remove the filter basket from the filter chamber by grasping the handle and lifting straight up, and then
place it on the work surface.
ß Insert a suitable paper filter if required ensuring it is completely open and fully inserted in the basket. Or
simply use the permanent gold tone filter.
ß Add the desired amount of ground coffee, corresponding to the number of cups being brewed. We recom-
mend using 1 level scoop of ground coffee per cup,but use more or less to suit your taste. Always ensure the
coffee used is ground to the correct consistency for a filter coffee machine, otherwise the machine may flood.
N.B. The maximum capacity for ground coffee is 17 tablespoons for this coffee maker. Exceeding this
amount may damage the appliance.

ß Replace the filter basket in the filter basket holder,by aligning the cut out of the basket opposite the handle,
with the cut out at the back of the chamber and flip the lid closed.
C Preparing the Carafe
ß Remove thermal carafe lid by turning in the direction of the‘unlock’ arrow. Pre-warm the carafe by rinsing
it out with hot water. This will help keep the coffee hotter for longer.
ß Return the carafe lid to the carafe. To lock, align the arrows on the lid and the carafe and turn in a clockwise
direction until the lid fits tightly on carafe and arrow lines up in the centre of the spout. This ensures the lid
is locked into place and in the correct position for brewing and pouring.
ß Replace the thermal carafe in its position on the resting plate. Plug the appliance into the mains, you are
now ready to brew your coffee.

Brewing Coffee
Now the coffee machine is ready to brew.
A Immediate and Programmed Brewing:
Turn the function knob to brew, press the ‘On/Off’ button and the red indicator light will illuminate and the
process will begin.Alternatively, to set your machine to start at a particular time, set the ‘Auto On’ function
(see ‘Programming your coffee maker’ section for full instructions) and the green light will illuminate.
B During and After Brewing
ß When the brewing cycle has completed, 5 beeps will sound. Coffee will continue to stream from the filter
for several seconds afterwards.
ß When the coffee is ready, stir before serving, to blend the flavours. The coffee at the bottom of the carafe
will be stronger than that at the top.
ß The brew-through, pour-through lid allows coffee to drip from appliance through the closed lid. When
brewing is complete, the lid seals itself so air stays out and coffee freshness and temperature are maintained.
No need to turn or adjust the lid before pouring.
ß After brewing, the appliance will automatically shut off. The thermal carafe will keep the coffee hot for a
long period of time.
ß The ‘Brew Pause’ feature allows you to remove the carafe during brewing. The brewing process does not
stop during this period, only the flow of coffee from the basket to the carafe stops.
WARNING: do not remove the carafe for longer than 30 second or the coffee may overflow the basket.

N.B. Whilst we offer this feature for your convenience, we do not recommend that you pour coffee before
the cycle has reached completion, since the coffee brewed at the beginning of the cycle has a very different
flavour profile to that made at the end of the cycle. Removing a cup during the cycle will alter the flavour of
the finished pot.
CAUTION:The bottom of the thermal carafe is hot to touch for several minutes after brewing.
ß To turn the Brew Central off, press the On/Off button and release.
N.B.The coffeemaker shuts off automatically after brewing is complete.

Cleaning & Maintenance
ß Always turn the appliance ‘OFF’ and remove the plug from the mains outlet before cleaning.
ß Completely clean and dry all parts after every use.
ß Open the reservoir lid and lift out the filter basket, discard the paper filter (if using) or discard the cof-
fee grounds from the gold tone filter. The gold tone filter and filter basket can be washed with warm
soapy water and rinsed thoroughly or put on the top rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts thoroughly.
N.B. Do not put any water in the unit once the filter basket has been removed. Wipe the area under the
filter basket with a damp cloth.
ß Once clean, replace all the parts.
ß To replace the filter chamber, align the cut out opposite the handle on the filter chamber, with the cut out
at the back of the coffeemaker and push down into place.
ß Remove the carafe from the resting plate. Discard any remaining coffee. The carafe and lid can be washed
in warm soapy water and rinsed thoroughly, or placed in a dishwasher. The carafe and carafe lid should be
placed on the upper rack only.
ß Do not use scouring agents or harsh cleanser on any part of the appliance.
ß Never immerse the main housing unit, cord or plug in water or other liquid. To clean the housing base,
simply wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry before storing.
ß Wipe resting plate with a clean, damp cloth. Never use rough, abrasive materials or cleansers to clean the

Descaling and the ‘Clean’ function
ß Always use the charcoal water filters provided and replace on a regular basis (i.e. every 90 days or 90
uses)
ß It is strongly recommended that you descale the appliance from time to time. The frequency depends
upon the hardness of your tap water an how often you use the appliance. The flashing ‘Clean’ light will
indicate when you should clean your coffeemaker.
If the ‘Clean’ light begins to flash when the coffeemaker is turned on, it is telling you that the calcium
build-up is interfering with the functioning of your coffeemaker and the flavour of your coffee.
To descale
ß Fill the water reservoir completely with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water and switch the
appliance on. Press the ‘Clean’ button. When the self clean light glows, turn the coffeemaker on by
pressing the on/off button. The clean light will shine steadily. The coffeemaker is now in clean mode.
One cycle should be sufficient to descale the appliance.
ß Once the cycle has been completed and 5 beeps sound, switch the appliance off. Turn the appliance back
on to see if the ‘Clean’ light continues to flash. If it does, turn it to ‘Off’ and then repeat the cleaning
procedure with a fresh solution of vinegar and water. If the clean light no longer flashes, turn the coffee-
maker to ‘Off’ and then run one cycle of fresh cold water throught the unit before using the unit again to
brew coffee.
Notes on the Cleaning Function
Pressing the ‘Clean’ button cancels all other settings. If it is pressed accidentally, press it again to return
the coffeemaker to all its previous settings. Pressing ‘On/Off’ will also exit the ‘Clean’ mode and turn the
coffeemaker off.
