and On (fully operational) modes.

The blue LED behind the front arrow buttons on the  
player lights when the unit is On.  
This button works only when the POWER button on the  
front of the player is pressed.  
Press to display DVD title menus for discs with multiple  
titles. If a disc has a single title, TITLE functions like  
MENU.

While disc playback is stopped, press to open the  
Welcome to Setup screen for adjusting DVD and  
Network settings.

Press to open and close the disc tray.

Networking controls  
Press to display the player’s My Music folder on the TV,  
which lists the music media files available on your  
networked computers. If a computer has not been  
detected, only the Connect menu appears.

Press to display the player’s My Photos folder on the TV,  
which lists the JPG image files available on your  
networked computers. If a computer has not been  
detected, only the Connect menu appears.  
MY PHOTOS  
MY VIDEOS  
Press to display the player’s My Videos folder on the TV,  
which lists the MPEG movie files available on your  
networked computers. If a computer has not been  
detected, only the Connect menu appears.  
Press to search the network for shared media. A menu

program an d start it for th e first tim e.

About your home network  
Before you begin , you m ust h ave a Microsoft Win dows-based h om e n etwork  
set up. If you do n ot already h ave a n etwork in stalled, you n eed to purch ase  
th e n etwork com pon en ts an d follow th e in stallation in struction s provided by  
th e m an ufacturer. Th e Gateway Con n ected DVD Player supports all m ajor types  
of h om e n etworks, in cludin g:  
■ Wired Eth ern et  
A wired Eth ern et n etwork con sists of two or m ore devices con n ected  
th rough an Eth ern et cable.  
■ Wireless access poin t  
A Wireless access poin t n etwork uses radio waves to lin k devices usin g a  
wireless n etwork card, an access poin t, an d a wired Eth ern et n etwork.  
■ Wireless peer-to-peer  
A wireless peer-to-peer n etwork con sists of two or m ore wireless Eth ern et  
com puters th at com m un icate with each oth er with out a wireless access  
poin t.  
If your Gateway Con n ected DVD Player cam e with a n etwork card, th e card is  
on e of th e followin g types:  
■ PC Card to Eth ern et adapter card  
■ Wireless 802.11b n etwork PC Card  
Important  
If you are using a wireless network with an access point,  
be sure to configure the access point according to the  
manufacturer's instructions before continuing.

After you m ake sure th at your h om e n etwork is workin g correctly, in stall th e  
Media Server program on to each com puter th at h as m edia files you wan t to  
access.  
Important  
Do not install Media Server until you make sure that your  
home network is working correctly.  
Computer requirements  
■ Com puter with Pen tium processor, 700 MHz or faster  
■ Network con n ection (wired or wireless)  
■ Hard drive with at least 20 MB of free space  
■ 128 MB of m em ory  
■ CD drive  
■ Network PC Card (also kn own as PCMCIA). A wired Eth ern et adapter card  
or wireless n etwork card m ay already be in cluded with your player.  
■ Microsoft Win dows 98 SE, Win dows Me, Win dows 2000, or Win dows XP  
To install Media Server:  
1 Turn on th e com puter, th en close all open program s.  
2 In sert th e Gateway Connected DVD Player Installation CD in to th e CD drive  
on your com puter. Th e in stall wizard starts.  
3 Follow th e on -screen in struction s to fin ish th e in stallation .  
If you are prom pted to select your com puter’s n etwork card, click th e  
n etwork card you wan t to use, th en click Next.

If you h ave m edia on your com puter, click Yes. You are prom pted to select  
plugin s.  
5 Click th e plugin you wan t to use, th en click Scan. Your files are im ported  
in to Media Server. Your first-tim e setup of Media Server is com plete.  
Tips & Tricks  
Select only one plugin for each type of media. For example,  
to import MP3 files on a computer where you have both  
MusicMatch Jukebox and Windows Media Player installed,  
select only one of the two plugins.  
You can select only one plugin at a time. If you have more  
than one media type, select one plugin and import the  
media for that plugin. Then select another plugin and  
import the media for that plugin.  
6 Repeat Steps 1-5 on each com puter you wan t to access from th e player.

Setting the IP address  
Wh ile con n ectin g to a n etwork, n etworked devices are assign ed a un ique  
iden tifier kn own as an IP address. IP addresses are used to direct n etwork traffic

separated by periods, such as 192.168.0.2.

(such as Win dows Media Player) or directly from your h ard drive.

You can import files only from hard drives, not from  
mapped drives or removable media drives. If you have data  
on mapped or removable drives that you want to play  
through the DVD player, copy the files to your hard drive  
and import them from the hard drive.

message “No Network Card. Please insert a supported card and

No songs are found when I try to import the files into Media Server.
