CentreWare Internet Services
CentreWare Internet Services is the embedded HTTP server software that is
installed and running on the printer network controller. Like Printer Admin
Services, Internet Services enables you to access and modify printer
connectivity settings and print reports.
Internet Services also enables you to manage printer jobs, view and change
printer properties, submit print-ready jobs to the printer, and scan hard-copy
documents to electronic files (ST model only).
This section contains the procedures for accessing Internet Services and the
general procedures for using the program. Detailed, step-by-step instructions
for using Internet Services to install and set up a printer are provided in the
appropriate network installation chapter of this guide.
Requirements
The requirements for accessing and using Internet Services include:
A TCP/IP network
A network workstation that has Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4.0
or higher) or Netscape Navigator (version 4.0 or higher) installed.
Since you are using the Internet browser to access information that is resident
on the network controller, it is not necessary to have a large amount of disk
space available to use Internet Services. If the network workstation meets the
configuration requirements for installing and running the Internet browser,
then it will be sufficient for accessing and using Internet Services.

Color Calibration Utilities
Color calibration software is also provided with the copier/printer. The
software is used to calibrate the printer for consistent, accurate color and to
adjust for variances that can occur over time due to changes in the
environment. Color Calibration is a powerful tool for the professional color
image designer, but it is also useful for anyone who creates business graphics
or other color documents.
The Color Calibration Utilities are included on the Xerox Document Centre
ColorSeries 50 Network Software CD-ROM and support both Microsoft
Windows and Macintosh workstation environments.
Detailed procedures for installing and using the Color Calibration Utilities are
provided in the Xerox Document Centre ColorSeries 50 LP/ST Digital Color
Copier/Printer Printer User Guide.
Note: Color calibration may also be performed using CentreWare Internet

This procedure addresses a basic TCP/IP communication problem, and
assumes that the printer is powered on and connected to a properly functioning
network port using the correct cabling.
To troubleshoot a TCP/IP Network:
1
Print a Configuration Report from your printer using CentreWare Internet

At a command line prompt, type:
ping nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn (where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn represents the IP
Address of the printer).
8
9
Try to
ping
the printer using its Host Name. If the ping is successful with
the printer's TCP/IP Address, but not with its Host Name, then you may
have a DNS name problem. Check the Default Gateway settings of the
printer.
Add the printer Host Name to your local hosts file and try the
again.
ping
tests
10 Try to
other TCP/IP nodes on your network. This will verify proper
ping
operation of your workstation's network card. Try to ping the printer from
another connected workstation. If the previous steps fail, you may have a
configuration problem at your local workstation. You may also have a
network problem.
11 If Dynamic IP Addressing is enabled, try setting a Static IP Address.
12 Power off and power on the printer, and check for connectivity again with
the ping command.

The rules that control the transmitting and receiving
of data.
protocol stack
A representation of the hierarchical nature of a
protocol suite.
protocol suite
queue
A hierarchical set of related protocols.
Pronounced "Q". A place where jobs are stored
temporarily, while they are waiting to be processed.
A print queue will hold multiple print jobs. A
printer that is attached to the print queue will print
the jobs one at a time.
RAM
An acronym for Random Access Memory. Memory
in which data is temporarily stored for processing.
RARP
An acronym for Reverse Address Resolution
Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol governing the
translation of a DLC (Data Link Control) address to
an IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is a method
for providing IP Addresses to nodes on a network.
When a node powers up, it broadcasts a RARP
packet containing its Ethernet Address. The RARP
server receives the packet and sends the IP Address
back to the node.

repeater
RG-58
A device that regenerates and often amplifies
signals to extend transmission distance. It is
independent of protocol and media.
Coaxial cable with 50-ohm impedance used by
Thinnet.
RIP
An acronym for Raster Image Processing.
RJ-45
Eight-wire modular connectors for Ethernet, Token
Ring, StarLAN networks, and some phone lines.
router
A device that directs network packets to the
segment of the network for which the packet is
intended, and excludes packets that are not intended
for a segment. Routers reduce unnecessary network
traffic and control access to segments of the
network.
SAP
An acronym for Server Advertising Protocol.
Nodes on a NetWare network broadcast "SAP
packets" at intervals to advertise their presence to
other nodes.
SMB
A term referring to Microsoft networking.
SNMP
An acronym for Simple Network Management
Protocol. TCP/IP protocol governing network
monitoring.
SPX
An acronym for Sequential Packet eXchange.
Novell's implementation of SPP (Sequential Packet
Protocol). It ensures that packets are received in the
correct order and that there are no errors.

Subnet Mask
There are approximately 4.3 billion different
addresses in the IP Address range of
000.000.000.000 to 255.255.255.255. These
addresses can be divided into smaller, and much
more manageable, subnetworks, or subnets. The
Subnet Mask identifies which part of the IP
Address contains the Subnet Address and which
part contains the host (or device) address.
TCP
An acronym for Transmission Control Protocol.
TCP/IP protocol governing sequenced data.
TCP/IP
An acronym for Transmission Control Protocol/
Internet Protocol. A protocol suite developed by
ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency).
TCP/IP is a set of communications protocols that is
supported by a variety of computer platforms. TCP
controls the data transfer and IP controls the routing
of the data. The IP Address is a unique address that
identifies a device in a network. The IP Address
consists of four bytes of information and is
expressed as decimal numbers with the bytes
separated by periods.
(Example: 13.1.188.2)
Telnet
TCP/IP protocol governing character-oriented
terminal data.
Thicknet
Thinnet
Cabling scheme using twin axial cable. See
10Base5.
Cabling scheme using 50 ohm coaxial cable. See
10Base2.
TIFF
An acronym for Tagged Image File Format.
Token
The character sequence passed among nodes in
sequence to indicate which one has permission to
transmit.
Glossary 10-13
Download from Www.Somanuals.com. All Manuals Search And Download.
Token passing
Network access method that requires nodes to wait
for their turn before transmitting data. Turns are
indicated by a character sequence that passes from
one node to the next.
Token Ring
A 4 megabit per second or 16 megabit per second
network using a ring topology and a token passing
access method.
transceiver
An AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) device for
receiving and transmitting data that often provides
collision detection as well.
twisted-pair cable
A wiring scheme with one or more pairs of 18 to 24
gauge copper strands which are twisted to improve
protection against electromagnetic and radio
frequency interference. Cable may be either
shielded or unshielded. See 10Base-T.
type 1 cable
type 3 cable
type 5 cable
Shielded two-pair cable.
Unshielded twisted-pair cable.
Shielded twisted-pair cable.
uni-directional printing A method of printing whereby signals are sent in
one direction only from the workstation to the
printer.
WAN
An acronym for Wide Area Network. A network
capable of transmissions over large geographic
areas, using transmission lines provided by a
common-carrier.
workstation
A networked computer typically reserved for end-
user applications.
WWW
Zone
An acronym for World Wide Web.
One or more connected AppleTalk networks
grouped according to network usage.
