2) Test Mode
The Test Mode is set in Register C u nder compu ter control. (See page 3-42) It
is u sed for player maintenance and management. This mode is u sed primarily
by Au thorized Service Company (ASC) personnel to determine key part
nu mbers of the player and to service the player. Generally, the player is not
controlled in this mode.
2.1.2 Active States
CLD-V5000 processing is performed within several distinct Active Sta tes. When a
command is execu ted, the Active Sta te changes inside the player. If you consider
player processing as a series of events within the Active Sta tes listed below, it is
easier to u nderstand the effects of variou s commands. The players five main Active
Sta tes are:
• Door Open
• Pa rk
• Spin Up
• Ra ndom Access

3 External Computer Control — Level III
This chapter describes the compu ter control protocol and specific commands u sed
for Level III control of the CLD-V5000 player. To attach a compu ter to the player via
the RS-232 port, refer to Appen d ix C, In ter fa ce Ca ble Specifica tion s. and see

3.5 Command Formats
Level III commands on the CLD-V5000 are expressed as ÒCommand MnemonicsÓ, so
they are easy to remember. ÒCommand MnemonicsÓ are also u sed for Level III control
of the CLD-V2800, CLD-V2600, CLD-V2400, LD-V8000, LD-V4400; the LD-V2200,

NOTE: The maximu m valu e u sed to set a control register is 255. For details see
Section 3 .7 .6 Register Con tr ol Com m a n d s, page 3-39.
A Search command can accept u p to the last frame, chapter or time nu mber encoded
on a LaserDisc. Maximu m nu mber of frames on one side of a LaserVision standard
videodisc is 54,000 (CAV), Chapters, 0-79 (CAV or CLV), time nu mbers 59.59 (CLV).
(One side of CLV disc holds one-hou r of fu ll motion video, time nu mbers can be
encoded that describe running time of a program taking u p several sides of several discs
u p to 9:59.59.) If a frame, chapter or time nu mber larger than the last one encoded on
a LaserDisc is entered, the player will search to the highest nu mber encoded on the disc
and then enter Still (CAV) or Pause Mode (CLV). If a block, index or time nu mber larger
than the last one encoded on a CD is entered, the player will not execu te the search.
3) (Address) or (Integer) Ñ Wh en a n a rgu m en t, an address or an in teger, is
in dicated in paren th eses, it is option al an d can be om itted.
Command String Ñ A command string consists of mu ltiple commands. The
maximu m length of a command string is 20 characters and it is terminated by the
<C/ R> code (0D hex). Exa m ple: FR2000SE 2300PL <C/ R>
¥ After th e term in ation , th e com m an d strin g is evalu ated, an d execu ted

¥ Th e <L/ F> code (0A h ex) an d <SPACE> code (20 h ex), even if con tain ed in
th e com m an d strin g, will be ign ored becau se <L/ F>, <C/ R> an d <SPACE>
are n ot in clu ded in th e n u m ber of ch aracters wh ich can be tran sm itted in
th e com m an d strin g.
¥ When an error occu rs, su bsequ ent commands in a string will not be execu ted.
¥ If a new command string is inpu t before execu tion of a cu rrent string has been
completed, the remaining commands are cleared and execu tion is cancelled.
Thu s, in order to cancel a cu rrently execu ting string, simply send the <C/ R>
withou t a preceding command. This does not cancel PA, SE, or RJ .
¥ When the player is pu t into Spin-Up, Spin-Down or Sea rch Mode, by external
commands SA, RJ , or SE, su bsequ ent commands issu ed will be execu ted and
an ÒRÓ will be retu rned a fter the Spin-Up, Spin-Down or Sea rch Mode cycle is
finished, due to the playerÕs communication protocol. To check the playerÕs
statu s, send a command to requ est statu s, ?P, ?D, ?T, ?R etc. To set player
address flags send CH, FR, TM, BL, IX. If these comma nds a re sent while the
mode cycles a re in progress, the pla yer will process the command, but wonÕt send
a completion sta tus.

on the Pioneer LD-V2200, LD-V4400 and LD-V8000. Early versions of the
CLD-V2400 played 1 frame every three seconds (Step 3) if a 0SP or 1SP were sent to
the player. Later produ ction u nits of the CLD-V2400, however, all play Step 1 if a 0SP,
1SP or 2SP is sent to the player. To achieve compatibility across the player line for a
