					Before proceeding, verify that your fifth wheel top plate   
					is a XA-201 model by following the 3 steps below:

					1. The prim a ry relea se ha ndle is not   
					pulled out com pletely a nd hooked   
					on the notch in the ca sting.   
					1. Slide the prim a ry relea se ha ndle   
					forwa rd, then pull the ha ndle out, slide   
					it forwa rd a nd hook it on the notch of   
					the top pla te ca sting, see Figure 1.

					2. The tra ctor m a y be puttng   
					pressure a ga inst locks (pulling   
					locks tight a ga inst kingpin).   
					2. Lock the tra iler bra kes, then ba ck the   
					tra ctor tight a ga inst the kingpin to   
					relieve pressure on the locks. Lock the   
					tra ctor bra kes. Pull relea se ha ndle.   
					3. Rust or grim e build-up on locking   
					3. Thoroughly steam clean the operating   
					mechanism of the fifth wheel, then spray   
					a light lubricant or apply a lightweight   
					grease on all moving parts including the   
					release handle and release handle spring.   
					Operate several times to work in the   
					lubricant. Follow recommended   
					m echa nism .   
					lubrication schedule as detailed in Service   
					Bulletin #XL-SB31.   
					4. Bent kingpin, da m a ged upper   
					coupler pla te or im proper use of   
					“lube pla te.”

					1. Chock tra iler wheels. Then using LOW   
					GEAR, lower the tra iler la nding gea r   
					until the bolster pla te is a ligned with   
					the fifth wheel, a s shown in Figure 3.

					kingpin is not entering the locks   
					properly.

					2. Ma ke sure the locks a re open. To open   
					locks, slide the ha ndle forwa rd a nd   
					pull it out to the m a xim um extension.   
					The lock will swing to the open position   
					(see Figure 4). If the lock does not open,   
					hold the ha ndle a ll the wa y out a nd   
					use a pry ba r to rota te the lock into the   
					open position. Do not put your ha nds   
					or fingers on or nea r the lock ja w.

					pull the handle out, then slide it forward

					7. Slowly ba ck the tra ctor up to the   
					tra iler. Pick up the tra iler with the fifth   
					wheel. Stop. Then continue ba cking up   
					until the fifth wheel locks firm ly to the   
					kingpin. Stopping helps prevent hitting   
					the kingpin too ha rd.

					1. Check kingpin for a ccepta ble wea r   
					with Holla nd TF-0110. Repla ce kingpin   
					if necessa ry.

					included with your fifth wheel

					Check to see if the lock and plunger are   
					properly engaged, as shown in Figure 6   
					below. If they are only engaged on the   
					first step, the fifth wheel m ust be re-   
					adjusted, as described in the Lock   
					Adjustm ent section of the m aintenance   
					instructions (XL-FW354, page 3).
