When   necessary, wipe the cabinet clean with a soft cloth and/or furniture polish.   The only maintenance required for this zone   heater is the periodic cleaning of the filter   (located at the back of the unit). Vacuum   or wash the filter at least once a month, or   as dust becomes visible to ensure efficient   operation of the heater.   Storing Your SummerBreeze Zone Heater   When the heater is not being used for an extended period of time, follow these steps to   extend the life and performance of the heater unit:   • Unplug the heater.   F°   • Cover the heater to prevent dust from accumulating on or inside the unit.   • Store heater in a dry, low dust environment.   • Turn the power off by pressing the on/off   switch on the back of the heater to Off.   • Unplug the power cord from the   electrical outlet.   Note: Before resuming use of heater, ensure the filter and front grill are clean and clear of   dust and dirt. Inspect the power cord to ensure no damage has compromised the integrity   of the cord.   • Remove the filter by gently pulling it   straight out from the back of the heater.   • Clean the filter by vacuuming it until all   dust and dirt is removed.   Suggestions for Best Performance   • Replace the filter by gently positioning it   into the back of the heater.   Electrostatic Filter   • Set your central heating system to a lower temperature. Place the zone heater in the area   where you spend most of your time. Now set temperature on the zone heater to your   comfort level.   • If filter is extremely dirty, run warm tap   water over it until it is clean. Allow to dry   completely, before replacing the filter   back into the heater.   • When heating larger areas, place the zone heater in a central location.   • Do not locate the zone heater in an area with a high air exchange rate. Heat produced   should be contained in the room.   • Plug in the power cord and turn the   power switch on the back of the heater   to the on position.   • Place the zone heater near a warmer inside wall and direct the output toward a cooler   outside wall. The cooler outside wall will draw the generated heat toward it, which   allows more efficient heating.   • Placing the zone heater next to a cold air return will draw the heat away from the area to   be heated. Experiment with the placement of the heater to see what works best   for you.   • If the zone heater is used in an extremely dirty or dusty area, the filter should be cleaned   more often to maintain the heater performance (see Filter Maintenance,   page 11).   16   17   Problem Solving Guide   Problem Solving Guide   Troubleshooting   Problem   Possible Solution   Frequently Asked Questions   The zone heater’s airflow   has been reduced.   • Make sure the filter is clean.   Q: I turned the heater on, but nothing is happening yet.   A: Make sure the heater temperature is set above your room’s current temperature on the   thermostat dial. After 2 minutes the air inside the heater will be warm and the heater fan   will begin to operate.   • Check the back intake for any objects that could obstruct airflow.   • If the heater’s airflow is still diminished or has stopped, contact your   Riccar Authorized Retailer.   The zone heater stays on   after I turn the thermostat   down.   • This is a normal function of the heater. During this time, the heater is   cycling the remaining heat into the room and is cooling the heating ele-   ment down.   Q: Why is the heater still running after I turned down the thermostat?   A: You will hear the heater fan running after you have turned the thermostat down. This   allows the heater to cycle the remaining heat into the room and helps to cool down the   heating element which protects the unit’s components from overheating.   • Make sure the heater is plugged directly into an unused, grounded 120   volt, 15 amps or higher circuit receptacle.   The zone heater will not   turn on.   Q: Can I use the heater to heat multiple rooms at the same time?   A: The heating capability will depend on your floor plan, the insulation and the room size.   Ceiling fans will help circulate heat. Placing the heater in a central location will also help   move heat between rooms.   • Make sure the amber light displays on the front of the unit indicating   the heater is plugged into an electrical outlet, turned on and is receiving   power.   • Make sure the heater temperature is set above your room’s   current temperature   The circuit breaker   button popped out.   • Press the on/off switch to Off.   Q: Will my heater work in areas without insulation?   • Unplug the power cord.   A: The heater will work in garages, basements and unfinished rooms. However, bear in   mind the effectiveness of your heater depends on how well the area is sealed and   insulated. As with any heater, the better the walls, floor and ceiling are sealed and   insulated, the more effective the room will be heated.   • Push the circuit breaker button to reset.   • Plug the power cord directly into an unused, grounded 120 volt, 15   amps or higher circuit receptacle.   • Press the on/off switch to On.   • If the circuit breaker trips a second time, return the heater to an   Authorized Riccar Retailer.   Q: Can I use multiple heaters in an area?   A: Depending on the size of the area, you may wish to use multiple heaters. Multiple   heaters may be used. Your heater is rated 12 amps so each heater must plug into an   independent 15 amps or greater circuit.   The zone heater tipped   over on its side and shut   off, but the fan is still   running.   • This is a normal safeguard function of the heater. Return the heater to   its normal upright operating position and the power will resume.   The programmable   thermostat doesn’t light up. • Slide the On/Standby switch to On.   Any other service should be done by an Authorized Service Representative.   Service 1-888-6-RICCAR   18   19   Warranty   Owner’s Warranty Information   keep this for your records…   Five Year Comprehensive Warranty & Ten Year Warranty on the Heating Element.   What is Covered:   This warranty covers any defects in material and workmanship in your new Riccar   SummerBreeze Zone Heater.   Date of purchase   Serial number   Model number   How Long Coverage Lasts:   Warranty coverage for Riccar SummerBreeze Zone Heater models RSBH-O, RSBH-C,   RSBH-SB, RSBHP-O AND RSBHP-C lasts five years.
